What a day. Got to the Y for 30 minutes. I'll post it. Went to Costco with my sis and got some turkey bacon. I love bacon, but we don't eat pork. I can't wait for breakfast tomorrow. I've got water aerobics at 10am. :)
Tomorrow night is Phantom of the Opera. I haven't got a thing to wear. I'm guessing I'll just wear my black skirt with something. Monet- COngrats on having the job finalized!!! Are you up for a reschedule on the farmer's market for Friday? I need to go in the AM Cindy- I've never seen a banana dance so fast. It must be b/c I ahve DSL now... Melf- Hop back on. We're all still going for it together. Poncho- A 5 day weekend? That dsounds nice. I wish I could get my husband to have one of those... |
Talitha: I used to take Water Aerobics at the Y, back in the day when I lived near one! I am here to tell you that if you go to that class 3 days a week, you will be so successful! I went when I was about 22 and I was the only person in the class under 65, but you work out to your best ability and let me tell you, there is no better exercise than working out in the water, imho. We did leg circles and arm circles and jumping jacks, stomach curls in the deep end holding water jugs. The 'older' people would move minimally and mostly exercised their vocal chords talking , but I would crank and really work it and keep up with the instructor. After the class, I'd get dressed in my sweats and work out with weights for a while and it was during that time frame that I was in the best shape ever. I would love to take that class now, but I'm 45 mins away from the nearest Y and with winter and crappy weather around the corner...
Frog: I'm new since you were on before...I started here almost a year ago. Wow...a baby!! And she's adorable, too! If you ever want to swap labor stories, just give me a yell! Laurie: Well,it sounds like your post Katrina life is getting back to some semblance of normalcy. And I'm glad the job is a tiny bit boring for you, at least you didn't take off more than you can chew and the boss will love that you're handling things with ease and maybe give you something more to do! Monet: You should consider yourself lucky I don't live in Georgia because I'd be knocking on your door at dinner time at least once a week!! :s: Even if it were just for cooking lessons!! And, now that I'm thinking about it, I still haven't forgotten the black rice you promised in the event I ever get to 155...which shouldn't be any time soon with my weak resolve to stick to plan. But I'll be looking for a new recipe at the very least, hopefully before my birthday in November. If I can just stick to my guns, I want to be a size 10 by then!! Melf:  Cindy: :lol3: So, who's the husband in your relationship, anyway? I'm like that, too...my DH is way better at remembering important dates... And, gosh...how scary to have the gyno say, 'no, that's not normal' and then send you in for tests galore. That is really scary and I'll keep you in my prayers that it's something simple. :grouphug: Pancho: We're up early here, too. I put my DS down last night well before 9pm and thought he'd sleep late this morning because he's gotten a cold from a kid in preschool that sneezed on him :( . So, I was hoping for him to get a good night's sleep, but we had thunder this morning, and that woke him up at 6am. I'm sure you'll find something fun to do on Britt's long weekend!! Jack: Yardwork DEFINITELY qualifies as exercise, in my book. I had to mow the lawn yesterday as, apparently, my DH has gone on strike with it and is now out of town for the week again. We have a rider mower, but I have to use the push mower to do a lot of it where there are roots and along the side of the driveway. What a workout!! Okay...so, anyway...I have court tonight to see if I can beg and plea my way out of my ticket or at least have it reduced. The whole thing is so exasperating. Then my DS was sneezed on by a boy in his preschool on Friday and now he has a cold, despite the fact that I took him home and gave him a bath right after school and then have been pumping him up with vitamins all weekend. Creepy little kid. Why do people bring their kids to school sick? It's so maddening...they end up getting everyone else sick and I think it's so selfish!! And then we woke up to a thunderstorm this morning and I had both kids in bed with me at 6am. I got DD in the shower before it got close as I get nervous with people being in the bathrooms or in the kitchen during storms. And then...I'll tell you guys...a tiny bit of too much information, but DH had a little accident yesterday and last time he had an accident (actually, it was an 'on purpose', but you get my drift), Kyle came around 9 months later! I've been sadder and sadder as Kyle gets older and older thinking my baby days are coming to an end and I"ve always wanted a third baby. Derek is of the mindset that we're done having babies, but if it happens by accident, he'll be happy, but he'll not be doing any more 'on purposes', so maybe this is my 'accident' I've been waiting for!! Keeping my fingers crossed...I'd be soo happy. My mom thinks I"m too old at 39-40 to be having a baby, but one thing I always say is if the Lord wants it to happen, it'll happen and there isn't a whole lot anyone can do to avoid it. One thing's for sure...if my accident turns out to be a wonderful suprise, we'll be moving to a bigger house. Anyhow...keep your fingers crossed for me!! Okay...off to get some breakfast!! No preschool today, so I get to relax this morning. |
I have been puttering through some forms, and then emails and have not accomplished a whole lot this morning. I need to go light a fire under James, and fix some breakfast! So far, all I have had is coffee! (at least I am awake!)
FROG: Great to see you! Your little tadpole is beautiful! I wondered where you had gotten off to! Hop right back in, and I am sure you will get that weight off again in no time! TALITHA: Yes, I think I would be up for a reschedule. Friday morning? What time? TECH: My mom was 42 when my sister was born...my sister was 39 when her first of three was born...now days, women are having kids later so you are not too old! I hope it works out the way you want. :) I have three and wish I had four or five. (I had three miscarriages, so my record is not very good! :( ) HEART: Good to see you! PANCHO: You will enjoy the hanging out days off around home, won't you? Just think of all that stress you are not going to have packing, and stuff! ;) Ok, I need some protein for breakfast! I will be back later! Hey, where is COUNTRY? |
Good Morning Chickies,
I had to cut out early yesterday I had an appt with the surgeon who did my mastecomy. I like going to him. He is so nice and caring plus he "feels me up" really good. Just wish I could tell he was doing it. Seriously that is where I get my best exam especially since I can't get mammograms any more. I feel at east after leaving his office. I got about 25 minutes of exercise in last night. I was going through my new routine trying out the exercises. It takes a while to read and figure them out and do some. I only did 1 set of each one trying to get through them. It will take about a week to weed them out and set up a normal routine. I did get 22 minutes on the TM today. My goal is to increase the time by 5 minutes this week. I was so frustrated with the scale. Expecting to see a lower number today, I was up 3 lbs. I only had around 1300 calories yesterday. I just can't figure this out and I am so frustrated. Talitha, 4 lbs is great. Joining the Y will help a lot too. Congrats. Melf, back on the wagon. Sounds like you have jumped on and are strapped in pretty good. Just don't over-do and hurt your shoulder. I have started Dr Phil's book, but didn't get too far. You did have a great day back OP. Keep it up. Monet, I'm glad the job is officialy yours. I know the kids will benefit greatly from your knowledge. Nat, you are so dedicated on your exercise you inspire me. Don't they post a school calendar listing all the holidays? Usually they are in a handbook or some sorts. Cindy, Happy Anniversary. Your DH is a sweetie. Sending prayers that all is fine with you. I had the biopsy thingy, He just snipped a piece. It hurt a bit, but nothing unbearable. Keep us posted. No, we used rakes to thatch the yard. I suggeted renting a thatcher but DH you are not supposed to thatch your yard. So he thought this would help it and not do any damage. I thought it was a lot of work. I have a bad blister to prove it. Laurie, how about taking a turkety sandwich for lucnh with letuce and tomato? That is easy to eat at your desk and you would be adding some veggies plus I thinkit would be more filling than a protein bar. Good job getting your exercise in. Frong, Welcome back. Some of us are still here. Your baby is precious. So much hair. How old is she now. Funny how that wt creeps back. Actually, I think it comes back on a lot quicker than it leaves. Glad you are back with us. Kris, you crack me up. I hope your "accident" turns out the way you want it. How did the ticket turn out last night? Got to get busy. Be back later. (I hope, I have 2 meetings this afternoon). |
Its been a busy morning for me. I can't tell you what I was doing...but it sure has felt busy! I went to the grocery store and got the rest of the stuff I needed. I sure hope I am set for a while now. I have spent almost all my grocery budget, and its only a few days into the pay period! I don't think we will starve, but we may run out of some things the fam considers essentials.
TALITHA: I spoke too soon...I checked my calendar and I am supposed to meet with a young lady from church on Friday. Can we work out something for Monday or Tuesday? Oh, and next Wednesday is when Gator will be in town. Do you have time to go meet her? I will be teaching on Wednesday, and I think that might be the only time she is free. :( I am hoping we can work out something either that evening, or Tuesday evening. I believe they leave Thursday afternoon. JACK: Stay off the scale! With the way you retain water, its counterproductive to be weighing every day. You need a bigger picture. I really wish I could convince you to read this book, Mastering Leptin. Its very interesting, and helpful. It probably has more useful information than Dr. Phil's book..... You will all be so proud of me...I cleaned out one of the crisper drawers in the fridge. One down and one to go! (did I mention how much I hate cleaning out the fridge?) |
Just back from the Y , and I feel like a million bucks. I did the water aerobics (1 hour) and 25 minutes cardio. Now I have to clean the house, do some laundry, get stuff boxed and to the post office (Ebay), get the kids situated for the sitter AND figure out what in the heck to wear to the Phantom tonight. Trav is suprising me for dinner. I just told him I want something with meat and veggies. No pasta, chinese..... Eating has been stellar yesterday and today. I fell so motivated know ing tha tI lsot 4 lbs last week. I can't wait to add to it!!
MONET- I'm pretty sure monday morning would be fine. I've got food enough till then. I could do any time Wed with gator, but I have company for dinner Tuesday night. I'll PM her my phone # Jack- Thanks. I feel a little like a fish in/out of water with my new exercises too (the water aerobics). We'll ge tthe hang of it :) Kris- Jacob was a planned 'accident' too. We basically realized immediately after the fact that we not only 'got past the goalee' but absolutely obliterated the barrier. We had him named and my due date calculated before we were up and out of bed. I hope it works out for you, too!! tech- I was the only one in the group under 65, until thist tiny little brazilian in a thong bikini jumped in late. She's really sweet. I didn't let it get me down and comparing myself. I'm going to try to do it 3 times a week. Thanks for the encouragement. Frog- Welcome back!! I was out for about a year, too, but I remember you. What's the tadpole's name? I've got a new one, too. Jacob is 8 months. |
Alrighty, all you SBPs (Sugar Buster Pros!!) - I have a question. Could you take a look at this menu and see if it's along the lines of what the SB plan would be? I'm going to get the book on the way home today, but was trying to plan my lunch for tomorrow so I could also stop at the grocery if needed.
Breakfast: deviled egg, 1 cup skim milk, light string cheese Snack: Dannon Light 'n Fit yogurt (6 oz.) Lunch: Campbell's Bean with Bacon soup, 6 Triscuits Snack: carrots and Marzetti's dill dip Dinner: salad with romaine, broiled shrimp, strawberries, feta cheese and balsamic vinaigrette dressing Now there. I had looked at some of your posts, I think it was something like "foods I keep on hand." This is mainly what I have eaten on WW (and the above equals 20 WW points too, by the way) but after reading on this forum, it seems as though the lower GI foods are what I should be eating. I think I can incorporate both ... I realize this WOE isn't a counting thing, but it's such a habit for me that it might take a while to break. Thanks in advance for any help and/or opinions! |
Kathy: First thing I'd like to say is you should really check the ingredients on the label of the soup, yogurt, dill dip and salad dressing. I have a hunch that on possibly all of them you may have some high frutcose corn syrup. I know tomato soup has it and lots of salad dressings have it, as does almost all yogurts, even the low/no fat brands. There is a brand that we don't have up here in NY that a lot of the gals here have that has 'bunny' in it and also you can look for 'low carb' yogurts, but your best bet with yogurt is to get plain yogurt and doctor it up with some splenda and some frozen fruit like blueberries. I put walnuts in mine, too. As for soup, I stear clear of it because if it doesn't hae HFCS, it likely has some rice or noodles that are no-no's here, too.
Also, I'd have liked to see you incorporate some fruit in your breakfast. You should aim for two servings of fruit (I do, anyway) or veggies with your meals. That and a protien something or other. Everything else was fine. ;) |
Thanks! That was speedy!
The soup doesn't have any of the HFCS ... it's something I ate as a child and had forgotten about until I saw it on someone's "staple" list. I'll have to check the dip, but it's mainly mayo and dill powder. If mayo is acceptable, the dip should be fine but I don't know if mayo IS acceptable. All I know is that it has 0.3 carbs per 1 T, which sounds pretty low. The salad dressing does have the HFCS, so I'll need to find a sub for that. And the other thing ... ummm ... oh yes, the yogurt. I haven't checked the label but had seen it on several of the other posts where people said they ate it. I'll have to check it out. I don't have any handy (was going to get some at the store) but I can check online and take a peek at the label. So what sort of fruit? I used to be a banana eater but see that's a no go. I have a bowl of cantaloupe and grapes, and the only salads I'll eat nowadays are the one I listed with the strawberries in it. Must be a freaky craving, but for some reason it tastes good to me. I really appreciate your help! |
Here's what the label on the yogurt says:
Nonfat Yogurt [Cultured Grade A Nonfat Milk, Modified Corn Starch, Kosher Gelatin, Vitamin A Palmitate, Vitamin D3], Fructose Syrup, Cherries, Contains Less Than 1% of Aspartame, Modified Corn Starch, Natural Flavor, Red 40, Potassium Sorbate (to Maintain Freshness), Blue 1, Malic Acid. Is the Fructose Syrup as bad a critter as the High Fructose Corn Syrup? Are they the same thing? Aha! I see apples on the list -- I like apples. Now can I have peanut butter? I saw some said yes and some said no. I have tried the natural in the past and couldn't get past the mixing it up each time, plus it tasted icky to me so I'd rather not have it if that's the only legal kind. |
Howdy.....I just finished a good lunch (tuna steak with sugar snap peas & cherry tomatoes). For BF, I had a bowl of legal cereal with blueberries, crushed walnuts, cinnamon and soy milk. I also had an apple and a Trader Joes trail mix bar for snacks. Tonight I am making Chicken Enchilada for dinner.
I volunteered at Lane's school today, in the 4's class. I don't know how these teachers do this day in and day out, and not lose their minds. There was one little boy in class that hits, and speaks out and says that he doesn't like the other kids in the class. When you ask him to do something, he tells you no. I'd not have the patience to deal with him as "lovingly" as this teacher does. I get to volunteer in Lane's class next Tuesday; I look forward to that. Brittany was going on a field trip today to see a Junie B. Jones play (for those of you who don't know..she is a character from a book series). Britt was excited since she has a lot of the Junie B. Jones books. WE MADE A DECISION YESTERDAY.....we are going to DISNEYLAND for Thanksgiving. The school has grandparents day the day before Thanksgiving, and due to the circumstances with my parents, we figured we'd pull them out of school and go to Disneyland. Britt still has no idea what happened with my parents, and I'd rather not discuss it with her at her age. They usually spend the day with us on Thanksgiving too (a few hours anyway), but that won't be happening either, so we thought it would be a good time to go. The girls are pumped! So am I! I am such a kid at heart. Cindy: I will pray that all goes well with your tests. Please have them check your bladder; it is often overlooked with women. I don't want to scare you, but my mom got bladder cancer when she was only 38. She had a partial hysterectomy when she was in her early 30's. She had spotting, and complained about it, but no-one ever found anything or took her seriously. She ended up going in for a full hysterectomy when she was 38, and they found the bladder cancer by ACCIDENT during that surgery. Thank God she had that surgery, or it may have been too late once they "listened" to her. Happy Anniversary!!!! What a sweet hubby. TurboJam is a workout, and it is a fun one. They claim you can burn 700 calories during the 45-minute jam. Some people in the test group even burned closer to 1000 calories during the workout. If you want to check it out, go to www.beachbody.com. Melf: Is that enough food?? Good job staying OP. Monet: Dinner sounds yummy! Good job on those steps. Heart: Sorry work has been so sow; it really makes the day crawl by. Those weekends are always tought aren't they? Frog: Welcome back; I have been on this board for over two years, but don't recall seeing you post....so I must be a newbie to you. I look forward to getting to "know" you. Congrats on the birth of your DD. She is precious! Talitha: Enjoy the Phantom tonight...black always works for anything. Does the Y have daycare? Tech: Sorry your son picked up some icky germs. I hear what you are saying about being at school sick, especially in preschool. Once they get beyond kindergarten, they want them there though, unless they have a fever over 100 or they are throwing up. Tis the season! Good luck with possible surprise. I love babies too, and would have loved to have more, but my DH is 42, and I am almost 38, so we decided that we are done! If we had started earlier, we would have had at least one more. Jack: Good job on exercise. Glad you were able to see surgeon, and he was able to put your mind at ease for awhile. They do post the days off in a school calendar that we got when the school year started, but this was so close to the beginning of the year, I didn't realize it until about a week ago. Katpo: Welcome aboard. You should get the book and read it to understand the concept of SB. It really helped me realize the reasoning behind it all. I would add some fruit to your BF, and some veggies with lunch. That yogurt would be a no-no. If you are not opposed to artificial sweeteners, there is a great yogurt sweetened with Spenda called Blue Bunny Lite 85 (Wal-mart carries it). I get Mountain High, which is sweetened with fructose. You can have any fruit you want, although raisins, pineapple, bananas and watermelon are not allowed on SB. Grapes, oranges, apples, pears, apricots, peaches, plums...you get my drift....they are all o.k. Bananas are even o.k, if they are not too ripe. I am maintaining my weight, but I eat a banana nearly every day. It's better than some of the other things I could be eating. They have a lot of health benefits. Peanut Butter is fine, as long as it is all natural (just peanuts or peanuts and salt)....no sweeteners. You will get real good at reading labels. It takes me hours to shop, but I also avoid any hydrogenated oils, and my DD has lots of allergies to foods. Please feel free to ask any questions you have! We are glad to have you. I better go give Lane some lovin'. I'll check back later. Take care, Nat |
Katpo: A way to get past that peanut butter snafoo, is to stir it when you first open it, and then store it upside down in your fridge. When you are ready to use it, just put a spoonful in a microwaveable bowl, and nuke it for a few seconds; you could even add a spoonful of agave to it to make it sweeter. You can also use other nut butters, such as almond butter or soynut butter.
Take care, Nat |
Well, darn it! Wouldn't you know when I stopped by the store to get a few things (cashews, sweet potato chips, etc.) I got a 12-pack of this yogurt. They are the 4 oz. cups though, so maybe I'll be okay until I muddle thru them. Either that or I can convince the kids to eat them!
I think I'll go over to Central Market this weekend and get them to grind me some almond butter. That sounds good. I sooo appreciate these responses. Believe me, not every other group is as kind as you guys! Oh and I stopped by Barnes & Noble on my way home from work. They only had the hardback and it was like $25!! I had gone to the store and got $20 cash back, didn't take my debit card into the store and only had that $20 in my pocket. It is so freakin' hot here and I was exhausted and ready to go home, so I didn't take the time to go back out to the car for my wallet, then go back in and get the book. I'll try again tomorrow ... but this time will be prepared!! |
Kat: I would suggest going to the library and borrow the book until you see it in paperback. I get tons of books at the library unless its a book I want in a collection like the harry potter books... Anyhow...
I get No Sugar Added peanut butter and sugar free jelly or jam and have pb&j once in a while. Mostly I like the peanut butter for a spoonful here or there for a snack. My son and I love to eat peanut butter from the jar. We're gross. But I always use NSA peanut butter and SF jelly for my kids sandwiches. A good salad dressing to try is Paul Newman's vinegar and olive oil (or at least it's something like that). It has no sugar or psuedo sugar (the corn syrupy things and all their evil cousins  ) in it and is pretty good. Pretty good going with the triscuits and just the right amount...6. I sometimes take a slice of cheddar and put them on the triscuits and nuke 'em for 10-15 seconds to melt the cheese a little. A couple golden rules I have are if I really, really like something and the added sugar is more than five ingredients into the listing of ingredients, I check the grams of sugar in the label and if it's less than, say, 5, I go easy on it, but still have it. For instance, I live in a dinky little town that's 45 mins from the nearest city where I buy groceries. I can get some things at a tiny little grocery store in my village, but the bread selection is weak. So, I get a WW bread, but it has HFCS in it, but it's way down the list in ingredients. I still get it, but go easy on it and have open faced sandwiches until I get to Watertown to buy legal bread. BUT, something may be high on the label for grams of sugar, like the plain yogurt I have, but still be legal. It has 19 g of sugar in it, BUT the ingredients are: cultured pasteurized nonfat milk, whey protien concentrate, nonfat milk solids and whey. No sugar, which means the sugar in it is lactose, which is fine. :dizzy: Are you thoroughly confused yet? You just have to take a month or so of crazy, intense label reading and then you'll go to the store and breeze through shopping, knowing exactly what brands are legal, etc. You'll get the hang of it...just hang in there and ask us lots of questions. This diet, or way of eating, is so worth it because it's all really healthy and the way humans SHOULD be eating. You will feel like a million bucks eating this way just from the nutritional benefit from it and the weight will come off naturally and healthily (is that a word?). In other news...I just got back from the courthouse. They had the place packed in and one case was for a guy that had a felony thing going on because he robbed the local gas station of $35,000 in lottery tickets!! The judge was telling me, which I thought was weird, as he wrote out my fine slip. I see him all the time getting his mail at the post office...I guess it helps to be friendly because you never know who it is you are being frinedly to and when it will work to your benefit. He got me in as the second case and I got it reduced from a speeding ticket to a non-moving violation or whatever and dropped from 4 points to 2, but still have to pay $130, but would have had to pay $145 with the other, not to mention if my insurance went up from it. So, at least that was something. I'm still jittery from just being there. I just never knew there were so many cretins living in my pretty little village. :( I think I'll go take a bath after the kids get to bed. Bleh... Replies later...Kris |
Katpo--Check out this URL for good prices on the SB book.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/off...?condition=all I think the lowest price was $2.00something. |
