My morning was very busy and the afternoonb looks like more of the same. :dizzy: At least the sun is shining although the temperature is only just above the freezing mark. Just wanted to say a quick HI . . . see you later. |
Have to go heat my leftover taco soup in a bit. Like to have something easy cause Survivor is on tonight and Steve gets home at 7 for dinner. Tried a pink lady apple and it was so good. I'll have to get some more of those. I also had some nuts for a snack. Need to get my strawberries out and fix those. Yum. Not much going on at the old homestead LOL. I got some dried apples and tomato powder in the mail. Won't be trying them out till next fall.
Lisa- That sugar is such a bummer. I two pieces of candy yesterday. I could have kicked myself. Hope you got to leave early today. Sue- You're doing it. I hope your shoulder is feeling better. A little walk outside sounds good. Care working out. Meowee- Hope you didn't work to hard. Well off to heat my soup...... |
Think I'll be a little scarce around here for the rest of this month. My cousin, Jamie (we've been as close as brother and sister all our lives) finally lost his long battle with cancer yesterday. Now, as I mentioned before, Ruthxxx is arriving today to spend the weekend with me. Guess I'll try to get on the same flight as she is on for the trip to Ontario on Monday morning. This should time out okay because his oldest son told me last night that there will be an autopsy to verify cause of death (something to do with the fact that he was a fireman). He will then be cremated and then there will be a memorial service. Liam didn't think anything much would be happening before next week anyway. So, if you need assistance and can't find me, just scream for another Mod and someone will show up. See you later, gang . . . :grouphug: |
I don't post on this board, hope nobody minds if I jump in, but I just wanted to say, meowee, I am very sorry for your loss.
|
Thank you . . . . . . I'm sure nobody minds.
|
Happy Friday ladies,
Sorry I have been MIA. I have been busy at work and work has been horrible. I didn't even want to come to work today. Everyone is cranky, nasty and thinks you are incompetent. We don't have much work and we are bidding everything. Which keeps me very busy. I am so glad it is Friday. No big plans for the weekend. Just getting my hair cut and colored tomorrow DH is playing golf so that works out well. Meowee, I am so sorry for your loss. You and your family are in my prayers. Have a safe trip. We will miss you. Ellen, You are one busy lady. You will get it all done with time to spare. You are too hard on yourself. Toni, how did your soup turn out with the ground turkey? Can you tell? It didn't rain here Easter, but it was very cool. Candoit, glad you are back and doing so well. Just be careful working out. Lisa, good for you getting in your groove. I find when I am not busy, all I think about is eating. I like busy days, plus the day goes faster. Wish I could leave early, like right now. Crystle, hope you are doing great. It is supposed to be warm here today, so I plan to take a walk on my lunch hour. Hope I don't get mugged or murdered. Not a great neighborhood. Made it to the gym 5 days this week. Hope it makes up for my eating. Hope everyone has a great weekend. Talk to you Monday. |
Meowee- I'm so sorry about your cousin.
|
Good afternoon
Howdy ya'll. I'm still here. We are just on vacation this week so no computer time to speak of. Today it is yucky and raining so it has slowed us down. :) Eating has been pitiful but I'm enjoying every minute and already planning on getting right back on track.
Meowee...I am so sorry for your loss. Sue...so good to see you. Hang in there. The weight will start coming off again. Solly...sorry they are being toots at work. I hope the mood around there picks up. Ellen...how did the cheese come out this time? Toni...I'm gonna have to try that taco soup some time. Every time I read about it it makes my mouth water. Lisa...hang in there. Have you tried a high sugar fruit to give you that jolt versus refined sugar? I find when I need a boost grapes or pineapple give me a lift. Tech...praying for you and Shelly. Talitha...how was your trip to the Y? Love and hugs, Crystle |
Happy Monday all. My week end went fine. We grilled steaks yesterday and had them with baked sweet potatoes, salad and veggie. It was starting to rain so we had to hurry. We're supposed to have a beautiful week with the temps. getting up to the 80's. I love it and will get out and enjoy it. Hope everyone is fine.
|
Good afternoon
The boys and I just finished lunch. It was yummy! My friend made a medley of fresh veggies the other day...summer squash, butternut squash, fresh asparagus, onion, celery, tomato and jalapeņos. We mixed that with brown rice, fresh pork roast and rolled it in corn tortillas. I'm stuffed. I tried to eat two but I got full first. :) The sun is shining and it is just too beautiful outside. I should be out there replanting green beans but it is still muddy from the weekend so I'm going to put it off a couple of days.
((Everybody))) God bless, Crystle |
Happy Monday, if that is possible.
Weekend was so-so. Saturday was beautiful. We spent most of it outdoors. Yesterday it rained all day and I do mean all day. Still raining off and on today and calling for more tomorrow. Cool, but by Wed it will warm up to the 80's. Just hope it holds out for Derby week the following week. Toni, thanks for sending warm weather, can you send it faster? Crystle, just vacation from school work etc,or did you go somewhere? Gla you enjoyed yourself no matter. Tech, wondering how Shelley is doing? Crazy busy, probably won't be on tomorrow unless its late. have a great one  |
Oh boy what a beautiful week we're having here. The weather has been great. I should get off here and do something useful but I'm a slob today. Trying to get my water in today. I'm just not drinking enough. Thought tonight I'd make a nice salad with some grilled chicken on top. DH will love it. And maybe start us on the road to healthier eating.
Solly-Sending you some lovely weather. Hope you are having a good week. You must be mighty busy. Crystle- Your food always sounds so good. Have some squash and fresh asparagus to cook too. Wish I had that vegetable medley. Well maybe I'll do something now. Have a good day. |
Howdy
Good afternoon ya'll. Vacation caught up with me big time. Every bad food choice has showed up as pounds and I don't mean one or two..my fault. But I'm trying really hard to get back on track. There is a huge pot of beans cooking on the stove right now...cranberry beans, black beans, navy beans, garbanzo beans and lentils. Hopefully it will taste a bit like 16 bean soup.
It is totally beautiful outside. Yesterday I planted the last of the spring garden. At least I think so. :) I even picked a few radishes. They were so tasty. I hope ya'll are having a SUPER day. Love and hugs, Crystle |
My sugar cravings are really getting more and more tame every week.
Wow, it's a relief. I sometimes start talking to myself like cheesecake isn't really very high GI food and that it wouldn't be so terrible to have a slice. It wouldn't be terrible, but it wouldn't be helpful either! So far I've managed to stay on plan 6 out of 7 days for the past week. Yay! Toni, Thanks for the reminder about drinking more water. I had been letting that slip. Solly, Sorry to hear about the environment at work. Bidding on everything sounds like an exercise in creating bad moods. Crystle, I can't wait to hear about your garden as the spring and summer progress. |
Yesterday I was badly off-plan. There was this big buffet and I'll spare you the greasy details. Today I'm back on plan, although probably a bit dehydrated and need to drink more. I hope you're all well. Take care.

Hello! I have had a rather eventful week, and have not gotten the chance to get on here and post. The wedding came off well...with the exception of my unfortunate accident. I tripped over a neon yellow curb, and could not catch my balance before I hit the raised sidewalk. I landed on my knee, slammed into a sign post with a bag of plastic, metal and glass platters in one hand, and a footed crystal cake stand in the other. The cake stand flew out of my arm, and miraculously landed on a pile of pine straw in the bushes. The horrific crunching noise scared the crap out of Tom, but it was not bone as he thought, just a plastic platter in the bag. It was a cheap, easily replaced platter, and not my heirloom glass. I limped around the reception in great pain, and spent most of the week since in the recliner with my leg propped up. It is a beautiful arrangement of blues, purple and greens. It is still sore, but getting better.
The cake turned out nicely. The wedding was sweet. I am glad it is over, and will be cautious about getting into another one for a while. My latest interest is Food Network. It was something to do while ensconced in the recliner. I rarely watch TV, so it has been kind of fun. My husband works for Dish, so we just got it installed and it is wonderful! Eating has been so so. I made another batch of ricotta, and a batch of mozzarella that turned out wonderfully! We have almost eaten the whole thing! :o It tastes so fresh! I plan to make another batch and try a fresh mozzarella, basil and tomato salad. MEOWEE: I am very sorry for your loss. Thinking of you.... I must limp off to the store, so I hope all is well with my 'buster friends... |
LISA: There is a recipe in the recipe section for a cheesecake make with agave, and no crust. You use light cream cheese, and it is not very sweet, but refreshing with fresh fruit on the top. It makes a nice occasional legal treat. If you can't find it, let me know and I will post it for you....

Howdy
Good afternoon. Things have been pretty busy lately. I finished up the planting last week. Moved the new baby chicks outside. Yesterday we bought a pair of bunnies. :) They are too sweet. They can't breed for another three months. Boy bunny had other ideas so we had to seperate them already. Eating has been so so. Exercise is almost non-exsistant.
I hope each of ya'll is doing well. Ellen, I'm so sorry to hear about your tumble. I LOVE the food channel. :) Love and hugs, Crystle |
Good afternoon. The week end was great. We grilled both days and just had a side salad with our food. I've got some beautiful organic lettuce I found at Wal Mart. Tonight I'm making tostado's for dinner.
Lisa- Hop back on plan.... You can do it.... Ellen- So sorry about your fall. Hope your knee gets better soon. I love the food network channel. We got the Green channel for a month from Dish and I've been enjoying Emeril cook from Whole Foods market. Crystal-Sounds like you're so busy.... Glad you got your garden planted. And those chickies out. We're having rain this week and its helping to make everything so green out. I think its time for a nice cup of hot tea. Enjoy your afternoon.... |
Hey ladies. I had a national birth conference for ICAN last week so I was busting my butt sewing for the past 2 weeks. We did really well and I'm so excited about getting business up and running again!
I've maintained my weight and it looks like I've lost 2 more. I'm not claiming it until I see it a few days in a row, though. Did we decide we want to have a weekly weigh in? Sounded like Wed or Friday for most? Anyway, just popping in for a cyperhug to you all. I'm off to water aerobics in a few minutes. Today is out 8th anniversary. I look around me at these precious kiddos and my amazing husband... giving him my forever was the best thing I've ever done. I'm beyond blessed. Have a lovely day ladies!! |
Oh wait. My ticker says 202. I hadn't changed it for a bit. I'm pretty consistently weighing between 199 and 197 Yay! Every little pound off helps :)
|
If I over-eat, I usually feel full for several hours longer
than I would after a normal-sized meal, but then when that wears off, or the next day, I'm even hungrier than normal. Some of you may know what I'm talking about? Crazy but true? Well, when I went off-plan this past Sunday, it was high calorie but not high sugar or high GI. Then, for the next day or two I was LESS hungry than normal, and there's not too much damage done to my weight. Wow. So basically, my body is working the way it should, and that makes me really happy. Even if I'm getting into trouble, it pays to avoid the sugar! Or maybe I've got a shrunken stomach and maybe I wasn't as bad as I had feared. Talitha, Congratulations on your anniversary and on the weight loss. Ellen, That fall sounds miserable. Thanks for the recipe idea. I've found some good low-cal lowfat cheesecake recipes but nothing with agave. Crystle, Congratulations on the new animals. Sounds like a Garden of Eden. :) |
Howdy
Just poppin in to say howdy. Busy busy week. I hope to slow down next week. Eating is great. Scales are yucky...LOL :) ((Everybody)) Hang in there and keep on keeping on. That's what makes us winners.
God bless, Crystle |
Hello, friends! The knee is still giving me fits. It is aching right now, though the swelling is down mostly and the bruises are actually improving. I am so ready for some peace and no injuries or stresses. I am not holding my breath...
I just shipped out a set of dishes I have been working on for almost a year. What a great feeling! Unfortunately, it was ordered by my sister, who expected a deal, and got one. :( I did not make a lot on them...but oh well! Tom got the tomato plants in the other night, finally. We should have tomatoes in about 60 days. I would be happy if they were over achievers and were ready sooner.... Dinner last night was chicken piccata. It sure turned out yummy! Tonight I am making lasagna with homemade ricotta and mozzarella, and chicken sausage from the farmer's market. Hope all is well! |
Ellen, you need to share some links on how you learned to make cheese. I've made my own yogurt. I wanna try!
Worked out twice at the y yesterday. I did 1.5 hour water class and then did 45min on the elyptical yesterday afternoon while Selah had her yoga class. I feel good. I'm taking the kids to my MILs to stay the night. Travis and I are going to go see the King Tut exhibit and then tomorrow morning we are going to the Green Market at Piedomont Park. Then birthday parties and guests on Sunday. It's going to be a fun-filled weekend. |
Hi ladies, sorry I have MIA. I have been having troulbe getting on the site. A dear friend passed away last week from breast cancer. She was a PE teacher at the grade school. We had gotten to be good friends and always went to all the bc outings. I will miss her. So I was pretty much bummed all week. it really hit close to home. Plus work has been dreadful. Everyone is in horrible moods, yelling, nasty, etc. I have been here 37 years and always loved my job. Lately, I hate my job. We are low on work and I understand the worry but you really don't have to treat people that way.
Last week was Derby week and needless to say, it was packed full to the brim. If I don't see another horse for awhile, it will be fine with me. Ellen, sorry about your accident. Hope your knee feels better soon. Talitha, Happy anniversary. Lisa, you can do this. Toni, hope all i well with you. Crystle, how is that garden growing? Guess that is all for now. We are so busy bidding work, that I am swamped. Hope to be back soon. |
Hello friends. I am plodding along, my knee is improving slightly. The weather has cleared and the sun is shining for the first time in several days. The rain was heavy yesterday and the roof is leaking. It needs to be replaced, but my farmer boy husband can't bring himself to pay someone to do something he can do himself...so he is planning on reroofing it himself. Argh!
I have finally gotten the furniture arranged how I like it in the dining room (new stuff we got from my husband's deceased uncle) and I am trying to get the main floor of the house in presentable shape for a dinner party the second week of June. I have a LOT to do! :) Eating has been so so. Not bad, not great. The scale is stuck as usual. TALITHA: I got a book from Amazon by Ricki Carroll called Cheesemaking. There is a website she runs that has the unusual ingredients you need. Mozzarella and ricotta are very easy cheeses to make. I have a second frig I need to get situated and plugged in, which I plan to use for hard cheeses that have to be aged. My son built me a cheese press, so I am all set. I am going to try a cheddar, then a parmesan. The mozzarella turns out delicious, and is much cheaper than what you buy in the store if you use milk from someplace like costco. If you like, you can make it out of goat's milk. You just need to find fresh goat's milk, as the stuff in the grocery stores has been ultra pastuerized and it will not work. Call me if you want to talk about it. SOLLY: I am so sorry about your friend. I know that must hurt. I am praying for you. So where is Toni, Meowee, Country - and has any one heard from Tech, or BOB lately? |
Hello. Things are crazy around here getting ready for company and a big family gathering here the 16th. I've got tons to do. First I've got to think about what to feed my bunch. Oh well I'm sure it will all work out.
Solly- I'm so sorry about your friend. I can't imagine how hard this is for you. And what a bad time for things to be bad at work. I hope it all gets better for you. Ellen- Wow you've been a busy bee. Glad your knee is getting better. Got your garden in yet? Talitha- good going gal on the workout. Keep up the good work. Hi Crystle, Meowee, and Lisa........ |
Hello. I'm hanging in there, and that marvelous ticker keeps headed down!
On Sunday we went to that buffet again, but this time I looked at it as an opportunity to learn new habits -- to take a few bites of the high-calorie foods and then not have any more. I already know how to restrict myself cold-turkey but that's not a permanent lifestyle, and I know how to over eat, so this is really good for me to practice practice practice. I feel like I'm training my body, not just my mind. Solly, I'm sorry to hear about the death of your friend, and the death of civility at your workplace. Ellen, I hope your knee recovers really well. Congrats to Talitha on the exercise. WAY TO GO! It's doubly impressive that you find the time despite the demands of kids. |
I have an annoying cat. He woke me out of a sound sleep this morning by poking me in the head. He wanted me to pet him. I think he must be senile, as he is very old and when he was young he never would sit in your lap, or demand attention like he does now. So, I SHOULD still be asleep.....
TONI: Sounds like you are busy too! A big family gathering is fun...but a lot of work! Tom has been getting the garden in bit by bit...last night he planted okra. He got some basil seeds too, since the old ones I planted don't seem to be coming up. :( LISA: I like your attitude about the buffet! It is a learning process, and you are going to succeed with that attitude. Way to go! |
The phone ringing woke me this morning. I was really sleeping. But I do have a busy day ahead so need to get busy. Didn't even get on the scale yet. Did everyone get a coupon for KFC's grilled chicken? Ours is to far away and I couldn't get it to print my coupon. The Biggest Loser was so good last night. Down to the final three next week.
Lisa- Yep that training yourself to eat better is a good thing..... Keep up the good work. Ellen- Awww what a sweet kitty. Maybe you'll need a little nap today. Crystle- Hope you get a break...... Well off to do some work. Have a good day. |
spring! <3
I love spring. It's finally getting warm where I live in the NE.
I'll be outside more. More walking. More running. Hopefully my fiancee will join me! Also, where do all of you get your countdown things? |
Hi all! I'm new to the forum and to Sugar Busters. I would like to join in with this daily thread if you all don't mind! To start, I was wondering if there are specific brands of "sugar free ice cream" that are recommended? I've seen "No Sugar Added" (Breyers and others) that include Splenda, but not "sugar FREE". Do they mean the same thing?
|
:welcome: Pet and Voice..... Its good to have you here. You get the countdown things under UserCP at the top of the page. But I think you have to be on so many posts before you can use it. As far as the ice cream goes I myself would go with the one that has splenda in it.
|
So, I've had no sugar today and I'm sooo tempted at the moment to go grab some chocolate! But I'm not. I'm going to have some water with lime because I really am thirsty.. Ahhh..
' I startefd a sparkpage and I'm trying to get into logging my food. Because I know that I'm completely addicted and worshiping at the Sugar Shrine. I've GOT to break the habit and stop feeling sorry for myself. Anyway, I blogged today if you want to go read it. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage.asp?id=MOMSTINCT Welcome Pet and Voice!!! Lisa, you're doing fantastic! Ellen- i may try that out sometime, when I'm in a bit of a better routine. I'm getting there.. Be careful with that knee. Solly, I'm so so sorry for your loss. ((hug)) Toni- I couldn't get the coupin to print either. |
Oh boy....I am on Day 4 of the SB diet, and I think I have what may be sugar withdrawal symptoms?? I've felt nauseous and dizzy and just generally "out of it" all day today. I don't get it...yesterday I was doing just fine, but today it just hit me like a ton of bricks. My nose is stuffed too, but I don't think i'm getting a cold. Could this be from cutting out sugar for only 4 days? Seems a little crazy, but I can't otherwise explain it. I'm still eating fruit, so shouldn't that keep me from having sugar withdrawal??
|
Hi Petsitter! The symptoms you describe...dizzy, nausea, feeling out of it....CAN be from sugar withdrawal. If they don't clear up in a few days though, you might want to explore other causes. I always got headaches, and felt out of it and nauseated. I think everyone is different... You will be glad you stick it out though. Not being enslaved to sugar is a wonderful feeling!
Ellen |
Tom opened the pool Thursday night, and it is almost ready to swim in. I can't wait! I actually got on the steps and got in up to my thighs. It is VERY cold, but feels really good on my bum knee. I love to swim, so I am looking forward to improved exercise stats very soon! :)
We went to our daughter and son in law's new apt for dinner last night. The dinner was not totally SB friendly, but I felt I had to eat a small amount of what she fixed. For dessert, she was SO proud of herself...she had made a sugar free cake mix for me in a train cake mold that was the size of large cupcakes. She knows I love trains, and have tried hard to impart this love on my grandson. He was VERY upset that we were eating the train! But once he bit in he got over it. It was good, but I know not legal...white flour I am sure...and she probably did not think about the icing having sugar. (I did!) It was a nice evening though. Tomorrow, everyone is coming here for Mother's Day. I bought pork tenderloin for my other son in law, the ex-chef, to fix. Everyone is bringing something. (I was VERY proud of myself for assigning parts of the meal to my daughters so I did not have to do it all myself!) I have not been on the scale in well over a month. I have a doctor appt. with a new doctor on Monday, so I guess I will find out then.... Hope everyone is doing well! |
Petsitter,
I felt miserable during my first 10-15 days without sugar, and I thought I might be coming down with something. But I'm pretty sure it was just the withdrawal. But I'm really really glad I broke the addiction, and after a couple weeks everything got much much easier. I'm sure you'll be glad you did it too. Just hang in there. Congratulations on the first 4 days. That's already a big accomplishment. Happy Mother's Day everybody. We went to "the buffet" again on Sunday and I did OK again. Filled up on a veggie stew, had only a couple bites of various forbidden foods. Yay. Lisa |
Morning! I think it is time to get back into the swing of what SHOULD be normal around here...so I am about to suit up and head out for a walk. The knee is much improved, though not totally back to normal, but I just can't wait any longer. My blood sugar levels have not been good. Exercise helps it more than anything. Ya'all hold me to it now.... :)
Mother's Day was a zoo around here. My two year old grandson was tired, and therefore on a roll of bad behavior. After they left, I discovered he had dumped a brand new, large can of fish food in my ten gallon tank. There is only one fish in there right now, and the poor thing probably could not breathe with all the food dust in the water. I cleaned a good bit out, but have to go back and do it again in a few days. Its just too stressful to exchange too much water at one time. He also hid everyone's keys. I am thinking he did not want to leave! :) I ate ok yesterday, but my daughter brought an exquisite dessert and I ate a healthy serving of it. Bad bad! My blood sugar is high this morning because of it. Off to walk! |
