Sugar Free Jelly Beans??

  • OK I have a question, as you know I gave up sugar for Lent. I stumbled across some SF Jelly Beans yesterday, ate a handfull, they were very good. Got home a couple hours later and had the worst digestive issues you can imagine. Then today I ate about 25 jelly beans(says a "serving" is 35 jelly beans), then I started reading the package and it says that "over consumption can cause digestive problems"!!! OMG!!!! I hope I am not in for another painful night in the bathroom!

Has anyone else had problems like this from SF Jelly beans or any other food with Maltitol in it?
  • YES!!!!

Maltitol is a big time colon kicker. Side effects vary - some people don't have any problems at all with it. Hopefully you won't have too many problems tonight. There's always Gas-X!
  • Okay well I kinda figured something out! I usually have to take a little senna to "do my business" regularly....so I had already taken it the day I had the "issues". Well yesterday I forgot to take it....granted I hadn't made the connection yet...so I quick ran tot he drug store and bought a package of gax-x just in case, and I took 2 pills about 90 minutes after I ate the jelly beans. So I didn't have that much problems last night, but I did manage to "go" without taking my senna..lol

Needless to say I tossed the rest of the package of jelly beans and will avoid them at all cost.lol
  • Yeah, Anything that says sugar free usually has (not to be graphic) but gas inducing properties. It's best to look for no sugar added. I'll admit I do have more than I should some times of those sugar free chocolates and I do pay. I guess if you don't like it then stick to not having the candy! Good luck.
  • Meesh, I just realized we are just about the same spot in our quest for weight loss....GREAT JOB keep it up!

But I am a little taller than you....5'6" here....
  • You might want to talk to your doctor about the senna. Most people shouldn't take an herbal or chemical laxative regularly.
