Well, I did it again. I put the intricately carved porcelain vase in the kiln and thought I was firing nice and slow, but I was sitting there working and heard an explosion. I peeked in the kiln (the lid was still propped open) and there was my beautiful vase, totally blown into rubble. I turned off the kiln and came upstairs. I had hours and hours invested in that piece. It looked awesome. I feel so totally STUPID.
I feel very frustrated. I listed three more items on Etsy, but I seem to be the only potter who is not selling anything. I feel so discouraged. Sorry to whine. Eating has been so so. Dinner tonight was chicken and broccoli stir fry and a peach. I got in 45 minutes of water aerobics too. Ok, off to sit in the corner and cry. :cry: |
Oh holy moly I got on the scale this afternoon and have lost three lbs. I'm so excited. I think I'll start weighing on Wednesdays again I seem to do better. I think I eat red meat on the week ends and it makes a difference on Monday's. It sure gave me the boost I need. Tomorrow I'll change my ticker. I had a big chef's salad for dinner. It was so good. Of course now I'd like to snack. Guess I'd better go to bed instead.
Monet-I'm so sorry about your beautiful vase. I wish you could post the website here I would love to see your stuff. Tech-I hope your kids have a great year at school. Bob-Don't over do. Rest, rest, rest..... Sleep well everyone. |
Monet - How frustrating for you to lose that vase. I took an elective class in ceramics many moons ago in high school. Let me just say art of any type has never been my forte, But I did take pride in a very lop sided ceramic pot I brought home to my granny. She somehow managed to plant something in it and displayed it on her front porch for many years.
Toni, I just noticed that you are in Onederland! Under 200 that must really feel great. I'm salivating to just get under 250 sigh. Dont know why but since I'm sick, I have been really munching just out of frustration. I do feel slightly better today. Rosemary |

Just breezing through. I have spent a good bit of time in the garagio today. I fired the kiln and will glaze and fire tomorrow. I have a lot to get done!
Eating was good. I had an English muffin with whipped cream cheese for lunch, and a handful of peanuts. Breakfast was a protein smoothie. Dinner will be roast beef and broccoli. My daughter works for a dentist and today she brought me home some old dental tools to use for my porcelain carving. They work GREAT! Now I have to send the dentist a present...maybe a mug. :) |

I'm doing a quick drive by...I'm off to pick up supper. I'm having chicken livers and KATE is having liver and onions. We get this on Thursday nights from one of the AMISH places here in town. Good morning! It is glaze day here at Chez Monet! I have probably two kiln loads to do. I am hoping to get them all done, and do two back to back firings.
I slept well last night, which is a good thing. I have been SO tired lately. I feel like I have fibromyalgia, and it is flaring. It is related to thyroid issues, which I have as well. I plan to toddle down and make some coffee. Then get to glazing! Have a great day, everyone! :wave: |
Well, I got the first kiln loaded and on. I finished glazing the second load worth, and will put it in when the first one is done. The first load was mostly blues, the second load is all browns. They fire a bit differently, so it is better to fire them separately. I hope it fires off soon, and cools enough to open it tomorrow morning. At least the second load will take no time at all to get going! All I have to do is stack it, and turn it on.
Lunch was NOT good. My son in law went out and got everyone lunch. He brought me a Cuban sandwich. It was really delicious, but it was on white bread, and had too much mayo on it to be even remotely legal. I was starving though, so I ate it. Shame on me! I should have been very specific about what I wanted. Off to get more chores done! :wave: |
Good afternoon. Nothing much going on here. I stayed up late with DH last night so am dragging today. I won't do that again for awhile. Even Jackson is a sleepy dog. We had a huge storm here with tornado warnings, lots of lightening and a big storm. Today its so humid it feels like a sauna out there. I've only had a ww bagel with cream cheese and a V8 juice. Guess I'll save the calories for pizza Friday.
Monet- sounds like you've been a busy bee out in the garage. I hope everything turns out okay. Bob- Did your livers turn out good? I had chicken, salad and some yummy broccoli with cauliflower. But its pizza tonight. Guess I'll go. |
Good morning! I am waiting until the kiln is cool enough to open,and it is HARD! I want to go fling open the lid and start exploring the results. I am SO impatient! I did peek a while ago, and it looked like it might be a good load.
I have had two espressos, a protein smoothie and a cinnamon raisin whole wheat English muffin from Trader Joe's with whipped cream cheese. I like a big breakfast, a medium lunch and a small dinner. Unfortunately, my good intentions of the small dinner often get lost. :( I hope everyone is doing well! I imagine BOB is watching any and all football games she can. I wonder where Fillise has gotten off to. Will Gator ever come out of lurkdom and post again? Maybe if her Gators do well she will be tempted to crow a bit... And Talitha...I thought she was back, and now she has disappeared again! :( Country has not checked in in ages, and neither has Heartmom....Melf, too. I sure miss all these folks. |

I hate football. Actually, I love football, but today I hate it because my Bills STINK! :mad:
BUT, I have this salsa that is so good on Triscuits: Football Sunday Black Bean Salsa (although it will work well on Saturdays, too) 3-2 tomatoes, cut into chunks 1 can black beans, rinsed and drained two slices of sweet onion, chopped into chunks handfull of cilantro, chopped into bits juice of one lime salt/pepper to taste Okay, chop everything up, toss into a bowl and squeeze the lime juice over top. If you make it in the morning, it tastes a bit better if you let it sit for a little bit, having it ready for afternoon games. :) |
Good morning! I just got back from taking James to the rapid transit train to the airport. He doesn't know when he will be back....hopefully by the weekend, but then I will be gone this coming weekend, so I may miss him. :(
I plan to get out to the garagio today. I want to try my hand at a few lamps. I am also going to make some apple bakers, since apple season is just about upon us! I have not had coffee or breakfast yet, so I need to go rustle up some grub soon, as I am really getting hungry! TECH: That dip sounds really good! Thanks for posting the recipe! I am going to try it. We ate at a new to us Mexican restaurant Saturday night and they had an unusual salsa that your recipe sounds similar too. It was really good! |
Howdy all; Boy I didn't eat as good as I could have over the week end and also had some wine. I can feel myself getting out of control so have to quickly get back on board.... I can do it, I can do it..... Not much news here. I think I'll get some lettuce seed this week end and plant. Hopefully I'll get some before winter. Think I'll go wash some sheets. Well, it's official. I just got insurance for my salon so I can go to Watertown tomorrow, get a DBA and my shop license. I'm naming it Broadway Barber and Salon. I was GONNA name it Mane Street Barber and Salon, but the guy that is making the sign said that most of the North Country Bumkins might take the Mane parts to mean that it's a pet groomer. He's right. But since the main street is actually called Broadway, I'll name it the other. I'm going to get a barber pole for the outside and we have to lay laminate flooring and redirect some plumbing and then do a good paint job, but then I'm in! Except for I have to get some salon furniture...chair, station, shampoo sink, dryer chair, etc. I'm so excited...it needs some elbow grease, but I really like the layout and its just the right size for a one-person salon show. I can hardly wait...and just in time for Christmas and decorating it so. I hope I get to decorate it for Halloween! Then I also get to buy all the colors and perms and rollers and rods and foils and combs and barbicide maybe a new pair of scissors. Aprons and capes and towels and trash bags and a GOOD broom. Etc, etc, etc. Some people might object to it, but I decided to go with a 0% interest credit card. I only need a few thousand and the business loan rate was over 10%! So, if my time is up for the 0% interest and its not paid off yet, I can do a balance transfer to another 0% interest card. But I fully expect to have it paid off pretty quickly. I just can't wait. I'm so excited!! Say your prayers for me!! |

Made it to the gym last night for a good 50 minute workout. Skipped this morning's walk since I did lower body last night and I was afraid my legs would be tired. Don't want to burn out quickly here. Down 3 lbs today. I didn't tell you al lmy new motivation. I got lucky enough to get a free ticket the the Susan Komen Pink Tie Ball. It is a big fund raising for the breast cancer org. It is really nice and I have always wanted to go, but it was so expensive for me and DH plus he would have to rent a tux. I have a friend you works in one of the cancer centers in town and she got 2 free tickets so she and I are going. I really don't think DH wanted to go anyway, plus I am afraid it will be an emotional night and I would be uncomfortable with him there. Plus we did not have the money for a tux. Back to my motivation. I tried on my dress from my DD's wedding 3 years ago, could not get it zipped past my ginormous boobs (as my DD calls them). I was so disappointed. So I know I cannot lose enough in 2 weeks to get into the dress, but it was a wake up call for me. Now I am struggeling trying to find a dress w/o buying one. A freind gave me 2 now I have to find shoes to match. I should have never let this go this far. I am so mad at myself. So straight and narrow for me. Monet, the mugs are beautiful. Bob, some good football coming up.. It's or big game of the year, UK vs U of L. It will be on national tv so turn it on for Kate. I think the cats may have a chance finally to win. Tech, :cheer: I am so exicited for you. Fixit up the shop sounds like such fun (and hard work). I know you will be a great success. Toni, there's not much to those Lean Cuisines, if that is all you eat. Tehy can be ok for lunch, but not dinner. Got to get busy here. Have a great OP day. |
I am so completely 100% sick to death of my husband's employers. He is at a trade show as we speak with his company and his boss told him that employing him is making the account they have with a local drug store chain too expensive for them to maintain. So....they are firing my husband. Their reasoning behind it is that his boss is hoping the drug store chain will hire Derek, but if his company continues to keep Derek on their payroll, the drug store chain will have no motivation to hire Derek. So, Derek's hoping the drug store hires him...which will give us health insurance at least...but also about a $10,000/yr pay cut. It just never ends. I hope to death that this doesn't mean an end to my salon. I'm more thinking it means I have to really work hard to make it work. We'll see. I just hate his employers. I'm so sick of this. At least I've learned not to panic. Something will work out, I'm sure.

Hello all. Wow we've been blessed with a wonderful fall day. Its in the 70's and so beautiful out it almost takes your breath away. I should have sat outside today but I didn't. I'm greedy and maybe we'll have another one tomorrow. Eating has been good. I think I'll have chicken and fried cabbage for dinner tonight. Breakfast was good one egg, two slices of bacon, and a piece of toast. I just had a V8 and some nuts.
Solly- Thats so great you lost 3 lbs. Wowie, Zowie......I'm back to weighing on Wed. Thats working better for me. You deserve to get to go to the ball and I'm so happy for you. Keep up the good work..... Tech- Dang I'm so sorry about your husbands job. I'll send up a prayer he gets a job with the drug store. You sure need to get your shop going... Monet- Where are you? Nice cool front blew through yesterday. It felt so nice, exercised last night in my bedroom with no AC on and it was comfortable. The last 4 months are my favorite time of the year!
Toni, I picked up a wonderful bed in a bag set this weekend on clearance for 20 bucks that even included a set of matching curtains and a table cloth. It's like I have a totally new bedroom. Ah yes, when I'm not living for eating, I'm living for shopping and bargains are my favorite thing! Hey did anyone catch the 1st episode of Biggest Loser last night. 3 cheers for the 61 year old guy! He left everyone in his dust, lost a whopping 31 lbs in under 10 days. I cant imagine that kind of a loss. BTW the trainer for the blue team focuses on a diet higher in protein lower in carbs and they one the weeks weigh in. Rosemary |
Morning! I am having a lazy one. I need to get down to the garagio and check out the stuff I made yesterday...trim it and what not. I instead rescued the baby from his crib and played with him for an hour before his father woke up. :) He is trying to walk, and it is so cute! He looks like a drunken sailor sometimes!
Breakfast was a ww English muffin with whipped cream cheese, and a carton of splenda sweetened yogurt. And two cups of espresso! :o It is overcast here, but I will still get in the pool later. I just am dragging my feet at everything this morning. :wave: |

Howdy all coming in late tonight. A friend came over and brought chef's salads from town and we had dinner together. With tea afterwards. I really enjoyed the salad and the visit. I did some laundry today. Also ground some bread heels into bread crumbs and put them in the freezer. I love to have whole wheat ones in the freezer for meat loaves etc.
Rosemary- Lucky you on the bedset. I wasn't so lucky but did get what I got on sale. Can't wait till it gets here. I'm awful bad to shop online. And ebay is great for bargains. Bob-Oh poo you miss the start on Biggest Loser. Wish I would have recorded it for you. Monet-Hope you got your things done in the garagieo. Guess I'll go for the night. Have a good one. |
Opps forgot to say I weighed in today and stayed the same. I've got to get my week ends under control. This is so silly ruining what I've done in two days a week. I will not do it this week end.
