Today I walked out my door and started bounding down the stairs (I live on the 4th floor of a building), eating a granola bar as I was walking, not looking at where I was putting my feet. Each flight of stairs alternates having either 7 or 8 steps, and I guess my subconscious was thinking there were 7 on this particular flight when there were actually 8! So I stepped right out into midair, of course, thinking "oh sh*t" as I tumbled over onto the concrete. Anyway, I'm fine, although I'm sure I'll have some bruises.
The point is though that when I was done grimacing and got up to start walking again, I realized how much worse it could have been. That fall would have hurt a lot more 40lbs ago! I'm glad that extra weight didn't land on my knees. And I'm also glad for the increased coordination I have now from my somewhat more active body--I'm sure it helped me react in time to avoid a worse injury. So in the spirit of looking on the bright side, I'm gonna call this an unconventional NSV.
