Just wanted to share!

  • I usually don't stray far from the 20 somethings board, but I wanted to share my success! I also wanted to venture out to meet more of you wonderful ladies here on the boards that I haven't gotten a chance to yet!

As of this morning I have lost 30 pounds!

Before 8/8/05 I had been teetering slowly upwards. My "normal" weight since high school that I had pretty much stayed around was 150. I had gained a little, but then naturally lost it and so on. Then in 2004 after I had gained 13 pounds then lost it on the South Beach diet, I went off it, around the same time quit smoking, and quit working as a personal trainer (and started a desk job). Again I went up, came down a little and finally ended up gaining about 40 pounds from about June of 2004 until early August of 2005. I realized that in the past year if I wasn't losing I was gaining and there was no steady at all. I decided to go back to school for the summer sessions this year as an edu major and after the second summer session was over I decided I just couldn't even stand being in my own body, I felt uncomfortable and wouldn't even look at myself in the mirror. So I decided to do something about it, and I started August 8th! Although I am not to my big goal yet, losing 30 pounds is something that i really didn't think I could do. I know for sure now that I can do whatever I set my mind to. Now I am a nutrition major, something I didn't think I could do when I was consistantly gaining weight, because I felt like I would be a hypocrite. And I feel like a brand new person: I feel comfortable in my body again, I feel more confident and I definitely have a lot more self esteem. Best of all I have accomlished this loss through eating good foods, keeping track of my calorie intake and exercising regularly. I didn't try to do anything that in the past really only hindered me (diet pills, crash diets, starving etc.)

I wanted to share my little success with you all because I know that there are many people just starting out and you should know that you CAN do it! Even if right now you aren't 100% sure, move ahead anyway and soon you will KNOW you can do it, and you WILL do it!!!
  • Hey, well done, nice to see you!!! There must be all sort of people I have never met on here, not being a 20 something anymore!!!!

I work for a company whose tag line is "the health and care people" and I felt I just couldn't be 260 odd pounds and be the "face" of the company anymore. So rather than leave my super job, I've gone about losing the flab. I am now only a bit heavier than your start weight!!

It's so empowering when you do this the healthy way, with good food and exercise, and it's exciting when you realise that so many foods that are good for you taste fantastic and better than any of the processed rubbish we put in our bodies before.

Well done on your journey so far, and here's to you at goal in 2006!
