Red face I lost my first 8 pounds!

I don't know if I should be happy or worried or what! I've been on my diet and have been exercising every day for six days now. Last Saturday, I weighed myself and came in at 286.5 pounds. Today I weighed myself for the first time since then, on the same scale, and I now weight 278 pounds! That's 8 pounds in 6 days. That's over a pound a day! Is this normal? I'm sticking to a low-fat/low-calorie diet. I'm eating 3 meals a day, just smaller amounts. I really don't think that I'm starving myself, because I'm not always dying of hunger or have many cravings. I'm ecstatic, but how could I lose so much weight in 6 days?!!

Congratulations on your great weight loss! It's terrific to get such a boost after the first week, isn't it? Makes it all worthwhile.

After the first week on a new diet the weight loss can be quite big, this is because the body has gotten rid of quite a lot of water but some of it should be fat being gone too of course! Usually the weight loss is a bit smaller as you get into your diet and plod along, but don't let this discourage you - if you lose weight at a reasonably "normal" pace (1-2 lbs a week) you're much more likely to keep the weight off!

Congratulations!! Don't worry, those kinds of losses are normal at first. Enjoy it now and please don't be discouraged when it slows down, because it will. This is all part of the process, so keep up the good work, you are doing a wonderful job!!

That's great! Don't worry that it's normal or not. Just take it as the wonderful gift that it is and keep doing what you're doing.

Thank you guys! Now I feel better about it. I mean, I was excited and totally thrilled, but I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't losing it too quickly.

It is quite normal to lose so much on the first week. The next few weeks though it will slow down a bit as the body adjusts. I lost about five pounds in the first week, I am due to weigh in on the 19th and I am sure it will be less this week. If you would like to join the weigh in, its a great weigh to keep on track. Its at the 300 pound club. Also, Well done & Congrats, sticking with a diet for one week is fantastic. The first step to a wicked new time as slim you. Its so cool to have jeans beginning to loosen isn't it?. All the best, C.
