It's extremely hard to diet when everyone around you isn't, and when you're faced with fattening foods on a daily basis. But you can work around it somewhat if, when you start to feel tempted, fill up on something healthy then have a "taste" of the food that is tempting you. If you have a large family meal, load the plate with the veggie, and just get a small portion of the other meal items. Eat the veggies first, so you feel fuller. And drink a glass of water before sitting down to the meal.

I'm sorry you have so much temptation around you. If you can't count on your family to help you out, you'll have to be the strong one and pull yourself through this. I bet you are a lot stronger than you think!

Now don't take this the wrong way, but let me tell you how it is with my husband. He told me a long time ago when I quit smoking that if I wanted his support, I had better mean it and quit. He wasn't going to take that ride with me over and over again, so if I didn't mean it, don't start. Well did that ever make a difference! He's had friends before that said repeatedly they wanted to quit, etc and he dealt with the crankiness and played cheerleader repeatedly and got tired of it. I made sure I was serious and ready to take responsibility before I said 'help me'. Now, here's where I'm going with this - I look back and see now that with my ex husband, I always said I wanted to quit, but I always went back to it. Eventually he didn't help me out at all - why bother?

If you're really ready to do this, ask your family to please help you out and keep it away from you, and meanwhile, you show them that you are trying HARD at this. Hopefully they will respect you for sticking to your word and meet you half way. It stinks to have to be the one to coerce them into helping, but at least you have a chance at getting them on board!
