Default Just how hard are the first 2 weeks?

I've done a lot of reading on the SBD, and I think I'm giong to take the plunge. I have 105lbs to lose to get to my goal weight. I'm a huge carb addict so cutting out breads, rice, pasta for 2 weeks (I think I'd do it longer though, if I could) is a real big challenge. Are the cravings horrible? I've read a lot that after those first two weeks the cravings go away...so making it longer than 2 weeks shouldn't be as difficult.

Any tips for surviving the initial phase? I'm going out to buy a bunch of easy phase 1 foods. I have a 7.5 mo old son, so I don't have a lot of time to prep food.

First of all to 3FC and to The Beach. Please join the thread for chicks starting this week.

Yes, Phase I can be rough but not for everyone! Eating legumes and dairy helps folks through the two or three days that are the worst. You must eat GOOD CARBS or slow carbs as this is not a low carb plan. CHeck out the Phase I foodlist and the other stickies in the FAQ section.

thin@heart!!!

In answer to your question, I found P1 a little rough because I really REALLY loved my breads and potatoes, but it wasn't that bad once I got into it. I remember that Day 4 was an incredibly bad craving day (what I would have given for a chocolate chip cookie or thing of french fries!) but other than that I was fine. I just tried to incorporate a variety of things into my diet - I carefully planned it all out ahead of time - so I wouldn't get bored. I made a lot of recipes out of the SBD Quick & Easy cookbook. A lot of those don't require a lot of ingredients and can be made in 30 min or less. There are also a lot of interesting recipes on this site if you look in the recipes section.

Good luck!

My day 3 was the hardest. One thing that I have found is eat lots of vegetables and my daily treat is the "Frozen Peanut Butter Cup" found in Phase 1 dessert ideas. Be careful not to over do your fats and sweet calories though!
Also, I had tried to do SBD in the past and was unable to make it past day 3, but this time I got my daughter to take pics of me in a bathing suit from all angles and that got me motivated!

Default Hi

Welcome! I've slipped in the past year and a half or so and phase one is what I need to get back on track. I don't seem to be able to go from pigging out just to phase two. I have to have a "cleansing" of sweets and carbs. For me each time day 3-5 has been the worst. Dizzy, headaches, blah feeling, but after that I'm good. Just knowing that maybe those days will be the toughest will help you out! Good luck and join the fray!

I just started Phase one on April 17 for the first time. I myself am finding it kinda easy. Of course I have cravings but when it happens I quickly find something to do. With 3 kids, its not that hard. LoL

I have yet to feel hungry though. Which is a plus for me. With every other diet I was doing I had alot of periods of hunger. It must be all the beans and eggs keeping me full.

Welcome Thin! My first 2 days were the hardest for me craving-wise, but by reading the posts here, obviously everyone's different.

I needed to have lots of snackie stuff available since I'm a "muncher", so I did the lettuce wraps, roasted chick peas, did the PB cup thing with the SF fudgesicles, string cheese, cut up veggies. Anything that I could grab easy and not feel too bad about munching on between meals.

I started April 17 also, and just found this board yesterday! Wish I'd found it before I started...

What's been my biggest challenge so far is variety - so I've set out in search of new recpes. This board has been a great source - I've already tried the taco bake (last night) and tonight we're having Chicken Divan - so advice #1 is to find new recipes to try.

Advice #2 is to make sure you're eating plenty of fresh veggies - they'll help you feel full, and I've also read on the board that people do better when they get plenty of them.

Hang tight -

I just started on April 24th and I am having an easier time than I thought I would. I couldn't help but weight myself because I feel the change already. I am a hardcore italian so cutting the carbs out really helped! I am realistic though I know the drastic weight loss doesnt last.

I do have one question though, does anyone stay on phase 1 more than 2 weeks? can you do that? does it help anymore? thanks!

Make sure you eat at regular intervals. On P1 I have to eat every 2.5-3 hours or I get lightheaded and feel awful. As long as you do that, eat your beans, drink your milk, and have yogurt...and lots of fiber. You'll be OK. I'm with the other ladies that days 3-5 are the hardest after that you'll feel fabulous. Good luck.

Days 5,6, &7 were really hard for me. You can do this. I'm only on day 8, but so far so good. Stay focused and don't be afraid to eat. I know you can do it!

I know a lot of it has to do with frame of mind. But the first few days are the worst for me cuz I eat a lot of sugar when I am not on the beach. This time I had a different way of thinking when I started and that helped. I know I have to do this for myself and not because my dr. says or anyone else might judge me because of my weight. This has to do with me. Like Dr. Phil says I didn't get fat alone, but I have to get thin alone.

I guess he doesn't know about Fat Chicks on the Beach now does he!!!

Default One week in

I have been on the SB for one week. It's been difficult, I am not going to lie. We are also using Trimspa so that's helping with cravings. The biggest problem I am having is eating all the meat. Sometimes, I have to choke it down. I am definatley more of a veggie eater. Keep your chin up! It get's better! Come on Phase 2!!!!!
