Default First Time at the Beach

Hi everyone, I am in the second week of phase 1 of SBD. I raelly like the look of this place as you all really seem to be knowledgable and ready to help each other out. I do have a few questions that I would love if somebody could answer. My stomach has had some funny reactions to the diet, its as if it is very acidic all the time, is this normal and what can I do to soothe it? As well are protein bars and such ok to eat? I do work out so they might be helpful if allowed. Thanks so much for your help

Sarah!

Glad to have you with us!

I'd stay away from protein bars. You can look at the ingredients and try to find one that doesn't have any trans fats (nothing that says hydrogenated), only has whole grains, and is sugar free (including fruit juices, honey, etc.). It's hard to find, but there are some out there. The thing is, those bars don't give you much in the way of protein or veggies...they're mostly carbs, which you burn quickly. I'd go for a protein/veggie combo instead, like 3 bean salad, bell pepers with hummus, etc. when working out, or even a protein shake with protein powder, yogurt, etc. that you make at home.

Was your stomach acidic before? I'd go see your doctor on that one just to make sure you don't have a physical condition. If you are having that problem all the time, it might be something more serious. If it happens once in a while, you can try antacids, but look carefully, almost all of them are fully of sugar. I'd stay away from them in P1 because I've never found any sugar-free ones, just ones that are low in sugar.

Feel free to post any other questions you might have. This is a great community with really helpful, knowledgeable people!

to the Beach. Are you eating dairy? Milk may help. Remember that there are new foods added to the Phase I list - check out our FAQ.

Your body might also be adjusting to the increased fiber. Or if you are lactose intolerant and you are drinking dairy when you weren't before, that could be a problem. It probably would be a good idea to see your doctor if it is happening alot or lasts more than a few days.

Default I am good again

THank you for your welcome and for your concern. Actually my pain has subsided, apparntley it was from too much fiber intake. I had a bad week and have gone far off the beach with my eating, however today I am beginning again. I need some encouragment as I feel I have done so wrong.

Welcome back! Try to add the high fiber foods gradually so that your body has a chance to get used to them. There are times I've had problems from too many vegetables like cabbage, brussel sprouts and other cruciferous ones. Increasing them gradually helped me.
