hmmmm.....Man, I can see how having fry bread as a daily dietary staple can cause health problems! They sound like Zeppolis or Funnel Cake...heheh, I always found it interesting that foods that are basically the same have different names, like an Italian ravoli is a Polish Pierogi is a Chinese pot sticker is a ...

About 8 years ago I took my daughters through Arizona on a trip. We stopped and spent a night in Keams Canyon...on the reservation. Well we had fry bread at dinner and had to get it the next day at breakfast as it was so very very good...
We then bought a recipe book and made it at home a few times too...but we didn't use lard, we used canola oil when we fixed it at home....I lost that recipe (On purpose) a LONG time ago...lol

Interesting! Just because something is a tradition doesn't mean we have to keep doing it or can't modify it if it's hurting us! How about fry bread, but only once a year (like Turkey at Thanksgiving)? Or making fry bread with WW flour and frying in canola oil?

I'm just not willing to keep eating the things that make me sick. I hope that Harjo's message gets through to those who need it most...Diabetes is no joke.
