Pigs Anon
Warning: DO NOT READ THIS THREAD IF IT WILL SEND YOU RUNNING SCREAMING TO THE CORNER STORE FOR SNACKS!!
:ink: :ink: :ink: :ink: :ink: :ink: :ink: :ink: :ink: :ink: :ink: Okay, girls. (and guys?) There are a number of people here who have a difficult time staying OP (on plan) when others mention their slip-ups. You know... talking about pizza, donuts, chips, chocolate, cake, bread and butter, baked potatoes with sour cream and butter... oh, I could go on and on forever. :D So if you must cheat and tell, this is the thread for you! :hat: And beware... if we see any "bad food words" in other threads, we will be ***** them out. |
Good idea, Ellis - I've been trying to avoid mentioning OP foods (before I started Phase 1) for fear that it would spark a craving somewhere. I did use some emoticons once representing OP foods, but I *think* that's it for me.
I try to keep in mind 1 Corinthians 8, especially verse 13:"Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never again eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble." Even if one isn't a Christian, that verse still seems pretty relevant to the boards here, and to the purpose of the boards (IMHO). |
I have problems with bite size rich, bakery items especially chocolate in a party or busy setting. If it's only sweet, I can say no. If it's a full size what ever, I'm very good at having 1/2 a serving if I really enjoy it and not go back for more. But something about bite size makes me think it's only a nibble and it won't matter to just take a taste this once, which was actually a 3rd or 4th or heck who's counting it's just a bite and it doesn't matter right? :dizzy: Evil bite size

And the first person who says to a Pig Anonymous "Don't be so hard on yourself" will suffer the Wrath of Ruth. No enablers allowed!
|
Hey Ruth, I like the "no enablers." We ate things we know are not best for us and we don't need some one telling us, "It's ok to do that." It's really not ok if we want to lose the weight and keep it off permenantly.
Oh, how about the mutliple servings of nuts in one day-shoot how about 1 sitting? See, I know exactly why I'm not losing weight! I'm just very surprised that I haven't gained it all back by now. ;) Sarah |
Well, I'm going to cry. My MIL is taking my husband out to dinner at D'Arcy's Pint, a local pub/eatery here in Springfield. They have the BEST Irish food ever. Irish meaning "potato everything." I'm skipping out completely just because I know I can't have potato everything. I MISS POTATOES! French Fries, Irish Mashers, Irish Nachos, dang!
Is it so bad if you have Irish Nachos? It's sour cream, cheese sauce, black olives, jalapenos, and onions on a bed of waffle fries. Is that so awful???? I'll stay home and have a handful of nuts and a salad. Mmm boy. Yum. South Beach Gourmet. Someone talk me into being happy as a skinny woman, please! I'm missing potatoes so much I'm about to say "Well I'd be happier fat." (Notice that potatoes are more tempting for me than beer. I'm a potatoholic.) So, I'm not caving in to potatoes, I'm just :censored: ing because I can't have them. Ever again. I might just die from potato starvation. |
One word....baklava...my daughter got some as a gift today and she said "Hey Mom this is one of your mast favorite things...do you want a piece? You can go back on south beach right after!" :o
I resisted...but now it is all I can think about... so I made myself a south beach cobbler.. marion and raspberries...with a little carmel torani sugar free syrup.. topping: 2 TBLS oats....2 TBLS whole wheat flour....pumpkin pie spice, splenda and 1 TBLS trans fat free margerine.. I am about to go taste it....I hope its good...maybe it will take away my want for baklava...just the word...yummmmm! ;) |
I spent the weekend at my parents...my Mom overfed me...SOUTH BEACH what?! Anyway, started over yesterday. I am sure my 4 pounds I lost last week are all back...I was afraid to check the scale plus it is TOM!!! OH WELL....I see my parents every 6+ months so I figure I am on track NOW and won't get sidetracked by little stuff....well until I take my vacation in September. Ha, Ha....after that I swear that is it for a while!!!! Got to lose the rest of the pounds!!!
I know better. See me kicking myself in the ***. |
To Weezle and all of us chicks: A friend once told me that no food is going to taste as good as a size (4,6,8 insert your goal here) is going to feel. I've not gotten to my goal yet, :( but I'll let you know if this is true when I get there.
PS. My eternal weakness is really good homemade potato salad. I could eat it by the pound. And I actually did this weekend and almost had to call off work yesterday, my belly was SOOOOO upset with me... :barf: |
I love the 'no enablers' rule. But what do we do now? Give eachother *ss-kickings for every confession? :?: Wag the naughty-finger? :nono: Where do we draw the line between support and enabling?!
|
Ok...now I am a bit miffed.
I thought of this thread as a safe place to confess that I was eating poorly without throwing others off course as well. Now I am going back to delete my post as I feel like I am being poked fun of! |
yummy
My favorite pig out food is Krispy Kreme donuts. Glazed with chocolate frosting. They are so light and fluffy that I have to eat about 6!
|
Whoooaaaaa. Jenne, who's poking fun at you? We're all just confessing ways we've cheated (I haven't broken down yet this time around, but Lord knows I did last time) and venting about the foods that really set us off. I don't think anybody was intentionally trying to hurt any feelings or poke fun.
This is a safe place to talk about pretty much anything, within reason. Try not to take things the wrong way, although I do know that it's hard to interpret how people are saying things when you read them off the computer screen. No tone of voice! Good luck to you on staying OP and reaching your goal. And that goes for everybody else, too! (and me.) :p |
It was me weezle...I posted that I'd went overboard on water and veggies yesterday in attempt at humor and to lighten things up a bit. I didn't stop to think that it may be taken wrong.
Jenn, my apologies. |
Did you delete the message soon after posting? I never saw it. I posted something that I didn't like it after I re-read it and deleted it a few minutes later. I sent her a PM apologizing if she read it and thought I was being mean.
It's a reminder that what we type doesn't really convey what we mean because we can't do facial expressions or tone of voice very well in writing. So we need to re-read and think about what we post to make sure it's saying what we mean for it to say. Sarah |
Sorry if I said anything to offend. I figure this is a safe place to unload, just thought that discussing enabling vs. supporting would be a good discussion. But in the vein of 'fessing up, I just ate 3 brownie cupcakes after resisting them for 2 days. I should have just thrown them into the toilet, but instead I kept them around and looked at them, priding myself on resisting them, until a weak moment. Now I feel ill.
|
Isn't that the truth? It tastes so good for the few moments it's in your mouth-then it hits your stomach and your body/stomach rebels and lets you know that it's not happy.
I had this piece-small-of wonderfully rich thing today at the party. And once I stood up, I felt it in the bottom of my stomach like a brick and for a few minutes I thougt I'd throw up. Now, if I can just remember that feeling the next time I think of eating something like that I would be much better off. |
I haven't cheated, but I'm craving.... The weather went and turned cold today, and I just don't feel like salad, salad, and more salad! I resisted at lunch and ate some olives, string cheese, and a hardboiled egg. I really really want some chowder! But I know I can't. I know I'll get through it, but it's hard to resist warm, cozy foods when it's chilly and almost-autumnal!
On a side note, I just noticed DS playing peekaboo with me, peering at me around my laptop's screen!     |
I still want baklava...and I know my daughter has some left...grrrrrrrrrr  :dizzy:
|
As I said to a few of you...
I took this space as somewhere where I, as a binge eater, might be able to confess that I ate a lot and get it out there. I'm not looking for anyone to "enable" me. I know a lot of things are going on in all of our lives, but I wasn't asking for someone to pat my head and say it's ok. I wanted to get it out there. The shame of it sometimes motivates me... Maybe I took this post wrong and it wasn't the intent that Ellis first had. I did think that this was a space to say what set us off. To confess. That for me, is sometimes hard to do when I binge. Which has been happening often lately. Nonetheless, thanks to you for the PM's. It wasn't about one post, but I guess a collection of all the posts poking fun and such that really upset me. |
Karla - what is baklava? er....or should I ask? Maybe there's a sbd friendly sub we could make up. Probably not, huh...
Jenne - :grouphug: we love you hun. I'm feeling the 'visitor' will be coming soon...I have no ankles at the moment and I know the cravings will be coming soon...aghhhhhh. My house is stripped of trigger foods for me, just a precautionary measure I've had to take. But lemme tell ya, a woman on a mission, especially one cranky with pms, can get pretty creative with the food at hand...I need to be careful. |
Jenn, I completely understand the need to confess "aloud". I like to do it myself... I'm not sure why.
I also moderate the Eating Disorder forum, and it's a real nono there to confess to food that might set someone else off. It doesn't particularly bother me, but I know that many people are sensitive to it, so I try to curb my enthusiasm for relating what I've binged on. ;) A couple of SB people have PM'd me lately saying they find it difficult to stay on plan when they have to read about, what for them, are trigger foods. So I thought I'd make a special place for those of us who need somewhere to confess. :) I hope everyone is okay with that... I want everyone to be happy. :grouphug: |
I confess...once a month at my handspinners guild meeting, one of the members brings Krispy Kreme donuts. I'm absolutely addicted to the custard filled, chocolate glazed. I eat one every single month. And I refuse to feel like an unfaithful spouse about it. I drive by the stupid KK store every single morning while the "Hot Donuts Now" light is on and I ignore it, every single morning. That's gotta say something for my character.
|
Hey, not reading any posts here...but did want to say a huge THANK YOU to those of you who are posting your indulgences here instead of in the main forum. It helps those of us, like me, who feel the need to run to the corner store immediately after reading some of these treats, to abstain. :D Thanks, chicas! :hat:

Hi Valerie, Baklava is a wonderful pastry that is very thin layers of pastry that has honey and nuts between every layer! There is also some kind of filling somewhere in there....I know if I ate some it would make me absolutely sick! But the smell of it when she brought it over just got stuck in my head!! I am getting over it now though...I made me a big frappacino shake!! But I will confess....I am eating 1 oz of dark chocolate...and its only been two days since I had some...I figure that has GOT to be better for me than baklava though!!! :dizzy: :( LOL and I know all about PMS creativity!!! ;) |
Val - I've been wondering that myself. I think you could do it, although it wouldn't be quite the same (naturally). Baklava is a Middle Eastern/Mediterranean dessert consisting of layers of filo and nuts, drenched in honey or syrup. I prefer the more eastern version, which uses pistachios and rose-water syrup, as opposed to the more common Greek version with walnuts and honey.
I remember reading, I think in the SBD cookbook, that puff pastry wasn't so bad itself (fairly low GI score) - if you didn't use all that butter (for those of you who don't know, you are supposed to brush each paper-thin sheet of filo with melted butter - that is what makes it delicate and crisp and flakey). He suggests (and I do this myself - it works fine) spraying each sheet (I do every 3-4 sheets, not each sheet) with cooking spray. Nuts, in limited quantities, are fine. That leaves the honey/syrup. I'm thinking - what about using sf vanilla syrup with a little flavoring - orange flower water, orange extract, lemon extract, rose water, or whatever. What do you think, Karla? Definitely Phase 2 treat, not Phase 1 - and even then only in tiny amounts, but if it kicks the joneses.... Sorry to jump in and answer Val's question when she asked you, but I just happened to read it late tonight and since I'd been thinking about that.... Jenn - I'm sorry your feelings got hurt by the jokiness. I'm sure no one meant to upset you.... |
I thought the phyllo dough already had the butter between the layers and it was made with a lot of butter? I saw Julia Childes make it one day from scratch. Maybe the freezer stuff is different?....Or am I mis-remembering what Julia was making that day? maybe it was crescent dough? Ummm...it's been awhile since I've watched Julia re-runs.

More one Krispy Kreme
The mention of Krispy Kreme in this thread reminds me of what has become a family joke for DH and me. Ever since he lost 110 pounds 7 years ago, he has been very diligent in his good eating. (Although a 15 lb gain is what brought him to "the Beach".) Every single time we pass a Krispy Kreme store he says that if he's ever diagnosed with a terminal illness or when he gets so old he's gonna die soon and his weight is irrelevent, he will stop at Publix and get a gallon of whole milk, go to Krispy Kreme, order 3 dozen hot glazed doughnuts and eat every single one. He finishes this daydream by saying, "And I could DO IT, too... all 36 of 'em." I literally mean EVERY TIME we drive past he says the same thing word for word. LOL! I can just see him doing it too! An ancient, old man walking into KK carrying a gallon of milk.
Good luck fighting the battle, everyone. |
AHHHH DONUTS!!!!! Totally Homer Simpson moment. Donuts are the best. I had one on Sunday after my weekend at the parents with tons of OFF-plan food and dessert. But I am back on and doing good.
HMMMMMM DONUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
 Leslie, that is HILARIOUS!!! :lol3:
|
Well, I myself really want a Caramel Frappacino from Starbucks (extra Carmel please). Oh, I love those when I am out and about and it's hot! I need to try to make my own variation. I am going to my moms this coming Monday and I know that it will be hard. UGH... such good cooking! I love her pies....mmmmm...... But it is true. A size whatever will feel a lot better than a piece of pie in the long run!
|
Re Phyllo: yes, it has butter between the layers. The frozen stuff needs to be unrolled, brushed with melted butter, folded and then last two steps are repeated several times. Somehow, I don't think brushing it with chicken stock would do it! The allowed margarines have water in them and would probably make it soggy too. Worth a try?
|
I'm actually planning a chicken pot pie recipe that uses phyllo dough as a topping for dinner tonight. Since it uses crumbled up sheets of dough on the top, I can just spray the top with a vegetable spray before I cook. I'll have to check if the recipe is phase 2 and if so, I'll post it. Someone also mentioned missing chowder and I have a good phase 2 clam chowder recipe that I need to post.
|
Re Phylo, I have made some things with it and sprayed ICBINB or President's Choice butter-flavoured cooking spray between the layers. Pretty good compromise.
|
Hey, Heidi, great idea. Do you have an OP recipe you could post in the Recipe section?
Well, I didn't think I'd have to post in this section about transgressions but I was kidding myself about perfection  Yesterday, when I visited Harry, I discovered a Chinese Buffet in Perth! Oy! Of course I had to try it and it was absolutely terrible! At least I didn't go back for another plate! Never again - at that place anyhow! There! I feel better. |
Ruth, It wasn't actually a recipe. I was making chicken pot pie, modifying as I went along for SB and for what I had in the fridge, then I needed to modify the pastry top so I used phylo. I know phylo isn't SB because of the white flour, but everybody has to figure out where they compromise, I guess!
Yesterday was my b'day so my family took me to Mother Tucker's which has free buffet for the b'day person (those cheapskates lol!). Enjoyed it thoroughly. Back on plan today! Really!!!! |
Happy Belated Heidi!!!!!!!
|
I usually use plain Pam or olive oil - depends on if the filo is for dinner or dessert. And like I said, I don't spray each sheet, I spray every third or fourth sheet. Less fat.
Sarah, if it was Julia Child, it was almost sure to be something French - probably pastry or croissant dough. |

Wow!!! That is a great idea!! But its funny...suddenly I have no craving for it at all!!! And I must say it feels wonderful!! I wrote down the recipe ideas though as if it hits again I will be ready!!!! Thanks so much!!! As for a carmel frappacino....Torani makes a sugar free carmel syrup that is really good...you could make a mock treat with decaf coffee, canned evaporated skim milk or if you want less calories ff milk, sf torani syrup and blend it in the blender with ice until it is thick!! I order those at coffee shops...ff/sf/caffeine free carmellotta or something like that (I am a weekender in starbucks terms)! Anyway that is what they use is torani sugar free syrups!!! You can even top it with some ff cool whip!! And sprinkle some cinnamon or plain cocoa on top!!! Darn I had to edit this...Phyllo dough is really ok?? In limited quantities? What is a limited quantity? I would think it would make a great topping for a cobbler...sprinkled with splenda and cinnamon!!! |
Karla - I just remembered having baklava, only once though. We were in Seattle about 5 years ago at the Pike Place Market and one of the little shoppes had it. I remember the smell of them just as much as the taste...I walked by the shoppe and HAD to go back and see what smelled so good. They were very expensive and I only bought one but man oh man was it yummy!
