Today is day 4 for me on the South Beach and it's been a struggle. I don't remember it being this hard last time. I didn't think I would ever get through yesterday. There was a big chocolate cake sitting on the counter and I can't tell you how many times I walked down to the kitchen and smelled it. I came sooo close to cutting myself a piece, but I went to bed early just to avoid the temptation. And I got through it.
Could someone tell me where the approved food lists are located on this forum? I spent some time here yesterday and found some very interesting recipes and conversations but I didn't find the approved food list. I only have the 1st book printed and it appears that some of the foods have changed.
Breakfast, not my favorite meal, is very hard for me to swallow. I managed a can of V8 juice, a hard boiled egg and a string cheese this morning. I'm bringing some sliced boiled ham, a sauteed veggie medley, and steamed broccoli for lunch today along with a string cheese for break. I'm also having a hard time drinking the required water so today I'm toting crystal light with the hope I can get that down.
Don't know what is for dinner tonight; I can't think that far ahead.
Hey! You did get through it! But why the heck do you have a cake sitting on the counter! Hide it or freeze it or pitch it.
Here is the FAQ section which has lots of great information. http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=115
The Revised Phase I Food List is the seventh thread down.
Hang in there. We're doing this!
Anybody who can avoid a chocolate cake is a heroine!! Good for you, girl! (and like Ruth and Julie said, get rid of the darned thing!)
Come on... you can do this!!
Like Ruth said....You DID make it and you will make it. The cake would have to go...OMG that would drive me crazy as well! (Short drive!) lol DD made cinn rolls lastnight and kept tryin to taunt me with them and as good as they smelled I told her the moment on the lips would not be worth all they would put on my hips! DS ate the rest and I came out unharmed! lol
Good for you on avoiding that cake...that's amazing!!! But don't put yourself in that position again, girl. Get everything that isn't OP out of your house. And don't tell me that your family needs it. They need you, healthy and whole much more than they need any food. If they want it, they can get it and eat it outside the house...not near you. That's just kind and fair.
I realize that changing the way you eat can be hard--I hated veggies before I started SBD, but I forced myself to eat them...I literally closed my nose several times just to choke them down! In time, I came to like them and find ways to cook them that made them more palatable to me. Feel free to eat whatever sounds good to you from the list for breakfast, even if it's not traditional breakfast food. But do eat and make sure you have some solid veggies, okay? You need them to fill you up and keep you going.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for pointing me to that list. I'll say the food list has changed. There's quite a bit more allowed on phase 1, isn't there.
That chocolate cake is history - and none too soon for me. I swear my mother is trying to sabatage me....she baked it on Sunday, knowing full well that I started my diet that day. Ironically, she did the South Beach diet with me the first time around and lost about 12 pounds but she's a chocoholic and couldn't stick with it because she needed her fix everyday. She has since gained back all that weight, plus some. She's 78 years old; I suppose she's entitled to eat the way she wants at that age.
As for me, I got through it yesterday although I had my doubts I would make it and today hasn't been tough so far. Just finished dinner and I'm saving my sugar free jello for later this evening. That's when the urge usually hits. Thank you so much for the link AND the support!!
Jans, good for you...I hate it when family members sabotage. I'd say that at any age, you need to eat healthy, but even more so the older you get. It's so much easier to gain weight when you are older, and so much more detrimental to your health to be overweight. When your mom is ready, she'll stick to a plan. Being a chocoholic is just an excuse. The SF fudgesicles take care of chocolate cravings well, as does making hot cocoa with Hershey's cocoa. Then there is SF chocolate pudding and tons of great recipes. And you can have real chocolate once a week. It really is doable, and that's coming from me, a woman who didn't go without at least one serving (usually more like 12-15! ) of chocolate a day for over five years.
I know you'll do great...and really enjoy how much is available this time around.
When you fish for crabs, the cage does not need to have a top to it. This is because if one crab tries to break-free, the other crabs will pull it back down.
Pretty interesting.
It sounds to me like you need to a) get more creative and b) plan better. I hate eating breakfast. Phase one made it especially hard because I hate eggs. I made tomato sauce from scratch, would scramble 2 eggs, add spices, onions, add the tomato sauce and melt some skinny cow cheddar on top. It is so good. It changed my attitude and made it a lot easier for me to stick to my diet. I also didn't drink the V8 because of all the tomato sauce I was having.
If you are prepared, you can't get pulled down. You are ready for it. You can do it. Remind yourself of why you are doing it in the first place. Leave yourself notes. You are strong and you can do ANYTHING for two-weeks.
