A Pet Thread

So we don't bore the non-pet folks and because we want it and because I go on and on about my Girls, here is the pet thread. Post your furry, finny or feathery kid's bio in here.

Ruthxxx 04-27-2005 01:47 PM

My "Girls" are Hershey (8) and her daughter Lucy (3.5) who are Portuguese Water Dogs. They are the dog loves of my life and excellent companions, particularly since Harry ahd his stroke and doesn't talk much. Hershey has had 33 pups (I'm a Grand*****) and is now retired from puppy breeding and from being a Therapy Dog. Lucy is a real brat who had her first litter of 6 excellent pups in the fall and will probably have another next fall.

Next pet nut, please!

AdiaFaith 04-27-2005 01:57 PM

Hello all!

My spoiled brat is Shelby, a mix of German Shepherd, Cocker Spaniel, and Irish Setter. She's a melting pot of a pup adopted from the Elmira Animal Shelter in March. She is currently 8 months old and has gained a good 15 pounds since we brought her home a month ago! She is fit and healthy and loves to run, jump, bark, play, and growl like Chewbacca.

Her most recent dog dummy funny: The other day we're driving home in the Blazer with the windows down, nice day, good tunes on the radio, everything was just fine. Just fine that is, until we near our small town and pull up behind an Amish cart, Shelby's first. So as we are slowing down by the main square in town (TINY TOWN), she jumps out of the window and runs after the stupid horse pulling the cart. So I throw the blazer into park and hit a dead run chasing her all the way down to the clinic, about 3 blocks. HOW RIDICULOUS! I got her just fine and the horse drove away with or without Shelby's permission. I'll remember the windows next time we see an Amishmen!

Here are a couple pictures of my Princess. We got her from a local rescue agency back on 2/28. They estimate her birthdate to be sometime in mid-December of last year. So far she appears to be a mix of chow and sheltie. The first picture was taken the night that we got her. The second picture was taken a month later. She is growing like a little weed!! She's now at 20lbs (will take a newer picture soon) and they estimate that she will get to be near 40lbs.

a broad abroad 04-27-2005 02:10 PM

Oh Ruth, what a cute idea!!

Our local Burger King has a bulletin board with "best customer" photos of dogs accompanying their owners at the drive-thru. I was looking at it the other day and one of the dogs names is Hershey. I thought of your little one.

My cannine companion's name is Pancho. (Thats him in my avatar). He is an 8 year old Heinz 57 mutt, with predominant German Short-Haired Pointer genes. He was adopted from the German tierheim (no-kill animial shelter) when he was 1 year old. He's smart and funny, with a very friendly and playful disposition. He's about knee high and can sniff out a Milk-Bone anywhere you hide it.

When I first got him I taught him a few things such as sit and come, which he does well, and stay (sometimes), to shake hands, and to play frisbee, which he loves. Whenever someone has food he automatically says "please" (he sits and raises his paw). He's got his own toy box, and at any one time will have 3 or 4 ready to go.

My dog is a traveler, too. In Europe, dogs are welcome more places than in North America. Pancho was born and reared in Germany, lived in the USA and Belgium, and has also been to France, Czech Republic, Sweden, and the Netherlands.

He has another funny quirk also: he loves to lick your all-day feet!!! The stinkier the better! Some people think its strange/weird/gross, but its the next best thing to a massage!!!

AdiaFaith 04-27-2005 02:17 PM

Sassy,

How adorable! And a fitting name too! My name means Princess as well, we all wear our crowns proudly! I'm so happy you adopted! Doesn't it just make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside? Our adopted pup was 25 when we got her and is now 40lbs! I have a feeling a got a big one on my hands!

Louise1013 04-27-2005 02:24 PM

I'm so glad to hear that its not just me!

My dog's name is Louise. She is a 6, almost 7 month old Shih Tzu. She is a black and white, 7 pound ball of energy. My husband and I don't know how we filled the time before we got her because she is literally how we fill ours days now.

I know her name is a little weird, we call her Weazy. But Louise is my great grandma's name and my mom has a dog named after my great uncle, harry. So I figured we ought to keep it in the family! It was Louise or Rita.

We live in a one bedroom apartment, and she is so adjusted to the small space. She has taken after the cats that live next store and hops up to the back of my chair and looks out the window. All the neighbors think it is hilarious.

She also is very spoiled. She has a zillion toys. her favorite are my old stuffed animals, an elephant and a lion that are almost 2x her size. She just carries them around like she owns the world. I laugh everytime.

She is at the groomer right now. I miss her. Talking about her makes me wish she was ready.

Barb0522 04-27-2005 03:20 PM

We have two female cats now. Diesel is a marmelade Tabby who was found wrapped around a diesel engine when she was a tiny handful. We got her as a pet rescue when she was about 6 months old. Allie is our calico cat. She came to us from a friend's boss who found out her son was allergic to cats. She used to be a stray and loves to go outside so she is an indoor-outdoor cat while Diesel stays in.

Allie loves Brian. She comes and lays on his bed between us while I read him his bedtime book at night.

Brian also has his freshwater fish tank. He is great about feeding them and has names for each fish.

a broad abroad 04-27-2005 03:20 PM

Beachgal Laurie,

In yesterday's thead you mentioned nylabones, kongs, and greenies. I'm a fan/buyer of nylabones and kongs, but am not familiar with greenies. What are they?
thanks

ellis 04-27-2005 04:39 PM

Our kids have two female guinea pigs. Charlotte and Ted. They're the sweetest little things. So cuddly, and no bother.

Judynyc 04-27-2005 04:57 PM

Greenies are a great treat but can be a bit pricey!! They are chewie treats that are good for their teeth. Do a google search and you'll find plenty of place online to get them.

My babies pics are now in my sig. All are rescues and when I come back later, I'll give a little bio on each of them. :D

beachgal 04-27-2005 05:35 PM

Abroad, our dog loves her greenies almost as much as she loves her daddy...and that's saying something! I get them in bulk very cheaply at www.petfooddirect.com, but I don't know if they ship to Germany. If not, I'll trade you...I'll ship you greenies if you ship me a wedge of walnusskase...I can't find it online anywhere and DH and I inhaled the wedge we bought to bring back with us to the states! ;)

If you have a big dog, I think they can be very pricey, but since we have a smaller dog, we can get the petite ones and give her one every day. They are great treats that help freshen breath (truly!), clean teeth, and have healthy ingredients. Yum! I think you can find out more here: http://www.greenies.com/

Oh my, yay for the pet thread! :D I love reading about your furry loved ones. I have a HUGE hug in my heart for all of you who have rescued and adopted your furkids. :grouphug:  There are so many out there that are homeless, abandoned, killed, and mistreated. I just think we need to open our hearts to those guys first, you know? We have three pets, and since kids haven't come into the picture yet, they are truly our babies!

We started out with Bella, our Chinchilla colored Mini Rex rabbit. She's 3.5 lbs of pure attitude. She thinks she is in charge of everything and that it's her "bunnifest destiny" to take over our house. ;) She is the softest being I have ever, ever felt and the love of my life. We were pretty naive when we got her and bought her as a "pet quality" bunny from a breeder. She just became a mid-life bun at 5 years old.

We got Denali as a companion to Bella, who seemed lonely. He was a rescue bun...a dog got loose in the backyard of the people who had him and his parents and siblings in a huge outdoor hutch. Bunnies do NOT belong outdoors. :( Anyways, the dog killed several of the bunnies and scared the heck out of the rest before they were rescued. To this day, Denali is pretty scared of dog smells. He's a skittish boy but very sweet. He's about 4.5 or 5 lbs and is about 4 years old. He is a mix between a Rex and a Himalayan, so he is mostly white with dark grey ears and a light smudge of grey above his nose. He has red eyes which were hard to get used to at first, but now I love them. He and Bella hated each other at first, but over the past three years, they have gotten along better and better. When I stay home, I think I can start bonding them for real and then they can be out of their enclosures at the same time.

Both buns have free run of the house, use litter boxes, and eat tons of fresh hay. They are sweetlings!

We added to our furfamily two Christmases ago when we adopted Lady, our pup. She was rescued from a shelter in Ohio that was going to euthanize her. She was fostered in Rochester and we found her on www.petfinder.org (an amazing site...but don't go there unless you have the ability to take in another pet...you'll find it so hard not to adopt about 20!!!). She is a corgi mix (with what, we have no clue!) and is about 18 lbs. She is about 2 years old. After lots of moving around and name changes, she was a pretty timid pup, but is now very comfortable with us. She's still scared around other dogs, but she is sweet to our rabbits (or ignores them) and an active, frisky, fun pup with us. She loves walks, greenies, jumping on the top of the couch and licking anything and everything in reach, especially eyeballs, ears, the top of your head and your feet (she agrees with Pancho...feet are tasty, the smellier the better!).

We love our little peaceful kingdom. :D I can't imagine my life without our pets!

I'm with you Jamie, our dog really fills our days...she is the best prep for becoming parents that I can imagine! ;) My family had a Shih-tzu for years when I was a kid. She loved to jump too, and could get up on my parents tall King-size bed. She would get a running start down the hall and land on the bed. When my parents were away one weekend (we lived in CA), my grandparents slept on their bed while babysitting us. Our dog jumped on the bed, and both my grandparents thought it was an earthquake!

Sarah, I loved your story! Poor Shelby thought that was a fun game! :lol3: You have your lives full with that girl, huh? ;)

I know I wrote about my guinea pig "babies" in another post but here are some more pictures. I love them soooo much I just have to show them off.
The first is Flo (a boy named for my Nana), the second is of Flo, Macaroni and Cheese and the third is of my "Bobo" aka "Mr. BoJangles" who is gone now but I miss him terribly.

SoCalBirdLady 04-27-2005 05:49 PM

Ruth, what a great thread!

The family is as follows:

Chuck - Amazon parrot with sometimes embarassing vocabulary. Is now 36 years old. Answers phone "hello, how are you?" whenever it rings. Enjoys chicken and potatoes as well as high-end large parrot food.

Max - Severe macaw. Full name "Maxwell Isaac Greenbird". Age 4 and is beginning to say "hello" in a deep human sounding voice that can scare the heck out of the unsuspecting. Likes to get mushy food all over his beak while eating.

Sidney - Cockatoo. Very needy and going through puberty. Also 4 years old. Has a feather plucking problem and is well known to the vet for both physical mishaps due to inability to fly right and psychological issues. Likes to eat lampshades and buttons off of the remote control. Has had one session with Steven Spielberg's "bird whisperer" in the hope that we can remedy some of the issues. Can you tell that animals in our house are family?

Madeline - Miniature poodle. High energy squirrel chaser and pursuer of much larger dogs. Smart, but common sense is questionable.

Godiva - Siamese cat. You got a problem with that? Huh? Huh? Just remember who owns this place. (sorry, she took over the keyboard).

Herbie - Fish. Parrot fish to be exact (go figure). Swims. Eats. Swims.

This now concludes your tour of my personal zoo.

Sashenka 04-27-2005 06:23 PM

Hi,
My personal zoo of pets are

Blake - English foxhound 1.5 y.o. - this breed was explicitly made to be able to run 2 hours without getting tired. Well, we did not know Blake is a foxhound, as we rescued his as Beaggle - except a VERY BIG one. Well, he is a sweety, but it took us awhile to overcome his separation anxiety - we are his 4th owners. Everybody told me to give up but I did not and I am glad - he is fine now when left alone (except we lost 2 doors, window, couch and blinds in the house). He finished basic outdoor obedience class and we are now into agility - and I love it (I personally count it as my Friday cardio as I can NEVER keep up with him). His picture in my avatar.

Ramzees - Siamese - definitely rules the house. Growls at Blake... Shows who is the A-cat. I still have problems to teach him that if I showeled him off the counter I mean he should not be there. Never gives up. Will jump back until I go away and leave him alone.

Chandler - long haired blue point Himalayan cat. Double the size of Ramzees. Weights 22 pounds. Blake loves Chandler and often ... humps him.... And Chandler does not mind... Go figure. Very smart cat but VERy heavy (again, go figure - both cats have the same weight loss food - one is slim and one is big).

Apart from that zoo I have 3 kids, and they are adorable :)

Sandy.

Ruthxxx 04-28-2005 08:22 AM

I just love seeing and hearing about eveyone's pets!

I'll post some doggie pics later.

The vet discovered Lucy has a bit of an ear infection which may be causing her some grief when she eats. I've got some stuff to put in her ear three times a day which should clear it up fast. She did eat last night and once again this morning so we are probably over the hump.

2BFIT1 04-28-2005 10:40 AM

Here's a pic of my little Shelby (in the bed that I made for her). She's a 4.19# Yorkie who is the canine love of my life. She is spoiled and truly thinks that she is a human. She is almost 12 yrs old and is starting to show her age (bless her little heart). She recently recovered from a slipped disc in her back and is not back to her old self (fussing at the cat).

My other canine is Kasey (almost 13 yrs ) and she is a Yorkie-Poo. Friendly, affectionate and extremely loyal. She now has bladder stones and will be having surgery in about a week.

My cat is Miller (5yrs), named after our neighbor , Rusty, who found him abandoned in a ditch. Rusty drank alot of Miller Lite beer, hense the name. He's an orange Tabby who tries to make friends with any other cat that comes around, which has lead to a few trips to the vet.

Other pics of my animals (and yard) can be seen at http://community.webshots.com/user/rnsilvia

Our menagerie:

We have MAXX: a huge Siamese/gray stripe mix cat we got from the Humane Society. He is almost 5 years old. He weighs about 16 lbs and isn't overweight. He is a mild tempered cat who is the love of my daughter's life. We lost his sister PIXXIE who was much smaller than him about 4 years ago, and it was devastating.

Then we got little miss BAILEY: a Lhasa Apso. She is about 9 lbs, very small for a Lhasa. She is a bundle of joy and frustration all in one!!! She just turned one on Sunday. She still chews on things, and has seemed to regress on potty training. It's back to the crate I believe. She has the most expressive face and the kids love to play with her.

We also have BLOSSUM the box turtle that I got from a student about 3 years ago. Then there is GIZMO the bearded dragon. Both are neat pets to have.

We just lost a Bala Shark and a Hermit Crab, all in about 10 days. Hubby has a HUGE 200 gallon fish tank, but we haven't had the money to set it up since moving here. He has to buy all new filtration and lighting - the old stuff was hand me downs and didn't make the move!

So that is it for our family, for now!!! I'm sure the kids will get new fish and crabs sometime soon. They also want a frog. We used to have one, but it died.

soon2Bfab 04-28-2005 10:56 AM

This is a great thread - I love reading about everyone's fury kids!!!!
I have a cat - his name is Thunder. He's part Siamese & Himalayan. I got him from a shelter in Toledo. He's 8yrs & have has a big belly and it moves side to side when he runs! Although I adopted Thunder, when Mike & I decided to move in together, Thunder decided to become a daddy's boy.....he sleeps on Mike's side of the bed & follows him everywhere! He even sits by the door when Mike go out to get the mail - how disgusting!

:lol3: about the common sense and Godiva's attitude. :D Perfect. Our dog is somewhat lacking in common sense as well. I have a friend who has a beagle and says that beagles have to share brains....they only get to use the brain about once a week. ;)

Sunnybunny 04-28-2005 11:35 AM

I have a chinchilla named Sunny Bunny, hence my nickname! She is apricot in color and a beautiful. We got her in 1996, so she is 9 and she is a very schizaphrenic little creature.

I was a total naive when I bought her. She was so cute and cuddly, but then we brought her home and she chewed everything in site (bible, shoes, purse, wood, metal, me). I hated her, but now she is a part of my little family. We don't have kids so she is our baby.

I would not ever recommend chinchilla as a pet though, they are just not that friendly and require expensive maintenance. I would not go back and do it again if given the choice I would have gotten a bunny or cat or something.

beachgal 04-28-2005 12:24 PM

Wow, it is SO great to hear all these stories and read about your furkids. I definitely would love to see more pictures!!! :D Sil, your Shelby is too darling for words. Will you make me a chair? That chair is FABULOUS!!! :faint:

My SIL has a tiny yorkie boy, Elliot. He's not even 3 pounds, I think.

Here are some pics of my sweeties.

Sunny, what an exotic pet! :D She sounds gorgeous! I bet she is the softest little girl ever!

Bunnies are pretty expensive, and they chew as much (if not more) than Chinchillas. They are very delicate, and you have to watch them constantly for changes in eating and pooping habits, as even a slight change undetected can lead to death. :( They are a great joy, though, especially when people are wise enough to litter train their buns and let them roam freely. :D

Sunnybunny 04-28-2005 01:42 PM

We tried to litter train our sunny bunny but she decided to eat the litter box and the litter instead. She even ate the newspaper that her own pee was on ... so go figure.

Laurie - Your bunnies are soooo cute. When I was younger, we raised rabbits (for 4-H & selling them as pets for Easter) We had New Zealand White & they had the red/pink eyes - freaky! You should see them when they are babies - no fur - gross!
Your male bunny looks like a Califorian breed - VERY CUTE!!!! My sister still have a dwarf rabbit, but he's not litter trained, stubborn I guess!

2BFIT1 04-29-2005 08:12 AM

OMG, I'm just loving this thread. It's so fun to be able to see and hear about all of your animal companions.

Laurie~~Your bunnies are so cute. I especially like the pic of Denali at the computer. Now I have a clear vision of you and Denali visiting at 3FC's
It's amazing that Lady gets along with the buns.

Sassy~~Your little Princess has the sweetest face :)

BirdLady~~Wow, what a group :dizzy: I can't imagine what your vet bills must be like with all of them.

Sarah~~Loved the story about Shelby chasing the Amish!!!!

Keep the pics coming, ladies

Ruthxxx 04-29-2005 08:20 AM

Lovely pictures! I can feel the softness of our pets - even the parrots and fish!

My Girls are all decked out in their red and blue company scarves right now and are waiting for Ellis to visit. Scarves are special and they know it. It also helps to tell them apart as they are almost identical in looks right now - Lucy's eyes are a lighter brown but that's about it! The minute I pick up a scarf they get all excited because they know something different is going to happen - company, Church, car ride, etc.

Actually, just Sidney the "troubled" cockatoo has run up the vet bills. Everybody else pretty much gets an annual physical and shots (semi-annual for Godiva since she is a "senior cat").

We hatched Sidney from an egg. He was fine until he hit puberty. Then he suddenly didn't want to be handled and started feather plucking because he was frustrated which, in turn, caused him to not fly well. He split open a spot that needed 7 stitches, antibiotics, etc. When we thought it was healed, we retained "the bird whisperer" to work with him. Here in Los Angeles, you can get psychological help for your pet no matter what the species!

Anyway, the bird whisperer was making progress when Sidney flopped on the floor again and had to be rushed back to the vet. Another 7 stitches and the same routine. Then it happened a third time and we decided with the vet not to have it stitched but to let the tissue granulate in. After all, he's not so vain that it will bother him to have a scar under his tailfeathers.

So now we are not bothering the poor bird with treatment or training until he gets some feathers and the area heals. We are putting some homeopathic anti-stress stuff in his water and he seems to not pluck as much. He also gets a bath every other day and that helps too. We are looking forward to the day when we can have the bird whisperer back.

When I have a digital camera again I will take some pix. Now you see why it says "parrot crazy" by my icon. :dizzy:

beachgal 04-29-2005 11:03 AM

Hi, Soon! All bunnies are really easy to litter train. The key is that you need to put a litter box where they want it...even if that's the middle of the floor! Some of the places our buns wanted boxes were darned inconvenient, but once we put a box there, they never peed on the floor again. Poops do get on the floor, but if you only see one or two at a time, they are marking territory, not pooping. A pile of them means they are actually defecating, and you need a box there. We have five boxes for our two rabbits. You can find tons of fantastic information on rabbits, (including why selling them at Easter is a bad idea :( ) at www.rabbit.org, the home of the House Rabbit Society. Dwarves are more persnickity, stubborn, and full of attitude than any other rabbits, so it might take some time, but your sister can train her bun to use a litter box. :)

Yeah, Californians and Himalayans look alike. We used to have a Californian rabbit that we bred ( :yikes: back when I didn't know better!) when I was a kid. She was a sweetie! New Zealand Whites are gorgeous little guys! The sad thing is that so many people think that the red eyes are freaky that the poor REWs (Red-Eyed Whites) often are unadopted and euthanized. And there are lots of them out there since they are the ones most often used for meat (:stress: ) and for animal testing.

Wow...how did I turn the pet thread into such a sad discussion??? :( Sorry!

I thought Denali's eyes were freaky at first, but I love them now. I actually think they are pretty!

Did anyone ever read the kids book Bunnicula? I think he had red eyes...

Love the pictures. Your Thunder is darling, Soon!

Ruth, I love that the girls get excited about scarves. :) Lady came with a scarf when we got her, but I haven't made a new one for her. I wonder if she would like it? I bet your girls look exceptionally lovely with colorful scarves against their black fur! Which one gets which color?

Birdlady, your poor Sidney! Sounds like he's had a rough time of it! So glad he has you to get him through! Are you giving him Rescue Remedy? A friend of mine highly recommended it for our buns. I'm thinking I might try it with our dog before a trip in the car, as she gets carsick and nothing (including dramamine) has helped.

SoCal, we almost named our Shelby Godiva. DF is in love with chocolate, especially Godiva. She's not prissy or Diva-ish though, but she certainly rules the roost!

beachgal 05-13-2005 04:22 PM

I just had to share a cute story about my bun, Bella...but didn't want to bore everyone in the Daily. So I'll just bore everyone here. ;)

Bella is a very independent bun, kind of like a cat in bunny fur. But she does love her pets, when she wants them. I guess I haven't been giving them enough lately, and she was determined to get them this morning. She dancing around my feet all through the upstairs hall and down the stairs. I then went in to the kitchen to make my breakfast, but she didn't follow me becuase she hates slippery floors. As soon as I made my way to the couch to put on my shoes, she started sniffing them and trying to get my to pet her. I didn't respond fast enough, so she periscoped (got up on her hind legs) and scratched at my leg with her front paws. She looked so darling I gave in and rubbed her eyes and her chin just the way she likes. She tooth purred loudly and then hopped off. :)

I just love my furkiddos! :D

Ruthxxx 05-13-2005 04:30 PM

Funny, I was going to pull this up this morning to tell you about Lucy and the ice in her outdoor water dish.
She licked it and then pushed it out of the dish and ate it. I think she thought it was a Mr Freezee which they get in the summer! Both Girls love an ice cube to chomp on when we have a pre-dinner drink.
Beachgal, part of Lucy's repertoire is a purr. I didn't realize bunnies did it too!

beachgal 05-13-2005 04:48 PM

Ruth, your Girls sound like such fun that I want to drive to Delta now! (but I won't...no worries. ;) ). I can't believe that Lucy purrs...how super sweet!

We gave Lady a doggie ice cream and some ice in her dish the other night because she was panting heavily. She loves to dig out the ice and run off with it...for some reason she seems to think she'll get in trouble for taking it. Of course, she loves to leave the pieces all over the rug, where they melt. But that's okay...she has fun with them. :D

my 2 cats are like my kids (cause i'm not at a pont in my life when kids are even thinkable). miatuck is a pure white deaf female cat with green eyes. her name means 'little fang' in blackfoot because she likes to chew on things. i have many disney videos and books that have teeth marks on both sides from her. i got her as a kitten when i first moved out of my parents. the guy who lived there before me left her there. she was covered in fleas, malnutritioned (she'd been fed cat food not kitten food) and hadn't had a litter box ever. so i took her in and now she's the best thing in my life. she broke her leg once and got a bright pink cast. now when she's wanting attention she pretends to limp. and instead of meowing she throws things off counters etc. to get attention (namely food). although i don't know when she was born she's about 8 years old.

nickademus (named after the rat in the kid's book Secret of Nimh) is a male, 6 year old, pure black cat. not a single white hair, which is extremely rare. he looks like a little panther always walking around with his long claws clicking on the floor, his fang teeth hanging over his bottom lip and his head down like he's stalking something. he has a bladder problem and can only eat perscription food... very expensive. but he is the biggest suck always wanting attention. and he's LONG....3 feet from tail to head. He can actually get into closet doors by standing on his hind legs and pulling down on the door knob with his front paw. he's a smart cookie.

the cutest is when the two of them sleep next to each other curled up and they look like a yin yang.

love the brats dearly.

Hmm, now this could take a while.. so I will be short on each one!!!

Crash, 20mths, Belgian Malinois - my main man! He is my primary working dog, working at the moment towards his PSA title (Protection Sports Assn.), MR title (Mondio Ring), SchH title (Schutzhund meaning protection dog) and his narcotics cert. He just loves himself to bits!

Maggie, 2yrs, Belgian Malinois
Pistol, 19mths, Belgian Malinois
Burny, 15 mths, Belgian Malinois - these girls are my brood *****es to be pending health screening. All have been worked and evaluated for breed standard temperament.

Djin, 8 yrs, GSD - Hubbys working dog. Already has a string full of titles, currantly working on PSA. He is a meany old man, hates me.. grumpy!!

Zee, 2.5yrs, GSD - Zee is a crazy working girl.. imported from Germany, waiting to have some "special time" with Djin !!

Odin, 8yrs, GSD - this is out nice old boy. He is not a working dog, just a big goofy pet!

Moose, 6mths, Golden Ret - our special boy. Moose is our family pet and he is adorable! Our kids got so peeved that we have so many dogs and they cannot play with any of them, so we got Moosy!

Blaze, 17yrs, Quarter horse - But the greatest horse in the world!!! (to me anyways!) I can haul a$$ on her then 2 minutes later put one of the kids on her and she is good as gold! But WOW does she have an attitude! "Feed me! Pet me! Groom me! .. ok, now I am done with you!

Domino, Baby Sage, Frank and Hissy - all outdoor cats.. and my babies!
Studboy.. outdoor cat also that we "aquired" named because of his previously HUGE "set" !!!!

Spoogie, indoor cat - the witch of the whole house!!! Rules the roost!

Sweat Pea, Siamese with some BIG issues!! She is OBSESSED with my husband, gets all upset when he is in late from work, or doesn't let her in the bathroom with him.. very odd cat!!

Fluffer-Nutter, another indoor that we aquired, sweet, dainty little girl who adores my son!

3 kittens, 5 weeks old - We found them in the yard, newborn, belonged to Hissy, a stray (who is now fixed!) some critter had been at them and had actually nibbled off one of the babies legs .. we cleaned him up, stitched up his "stump" gave him antibiotics and in all honesty thought he would die within a day or so.. but he is still with us!!! Having a little trouble on those 3 legs mind you, but I am sure he will figure it out!!

... I *think* that is it LOL

.. and yes, I have a HUGE feed bill !!!

Oh what fun! I've enjoyed all the pictures and the stories of our babies!

I do not have a digital camera or a scanner, so no pictures:

I have 3 boys (cats):

Titi-age 4, maine coon imitation, absolute mama's boy, moody with the rest of the world

Timo-age 2, big fat orange tabby, little rescue baby who made his way alone across a field to a house to be found, he loves everyone, and thinks he's my husband

Thomas Baxter-9months mostly black and white fluff ball, skittish, but still comes to me kneading his little feet and purring. Someday I hope he will feel relxed enough to come pet my legs like the other two. He was also rescued with his 2 sisters and mommy. I think he had to learn to be afraid to stay safe.

Love Animals, they are the best !

Lydia,
Now I can help you! The supplies you will need I'll post below. But the most important thing you can do for a puppy is to socialize, socialize, socialize. The pup should be exposed to all kinds of people, kids, and animals. (Caveat: you might want to limit the contact with adult dogs until the pup has all her shots. In other words, some supervised greetings are ok.)

You will need: a crate or kennel to help with housebreaking (large enough for the pup to turn around.); stainless steel bowls; dry puppy food (look at the ingredients and don't buy anything with "corn" as the first ingredient; chicken is good. I used to mix my dogs' dry food with a tablespoon or two of canned food, which they seemed to enjoy.); a collar, possibly an expandable nylon/cloth type and a leather leash (the nylon ones will burn your hands if your dog is a puller); a brush made for hounds and puppy/kindergarten lessons! Training is so important for a dog and for the dog's people.

Please feel free to PM me. BTW, I love cats too.
Good luck!

Gladys
