Default TGIF at the Beach - Oct. 29

Rise and Shine!

Well, for me at least I will have to shine because the sun is not shining here.

What have I done? Why? After reviewing my food log for last weekend I noticed that I was off-plan five days in a row - ouch! I knew what I was doing at the time but couldn't refrain. It wasn't at every meal or too much snaking, just one thing a day but it definitely put a HALT to any losses and even resulted in a temporary gain. I felt like the wrong kind of loser, out of control. I don't know what happened. (curious??? Fri. night alcohol, Sat. corn chips, Sun. pizza, Mon. chocolate, Tue. chocolate) After 3 days back on plan, with lots of veggies, the scale seems to be closer to where I want it to be. Whew! I will be dedicated this weekend, after all, we will be reporting our end of the month results on Monday

Mamacita - I'm gonna get us rolling today, you can keep plotting about that new spinner...

Laurie - I wanted to mention that earlier this year a friend of mine and her DH flew international (US to Europe) and the airline made them BUY headphones to watch the movies!! I don't remember which airline (sorry) but it was $4.00 per headphone, so if you can squeeze a couple more things in your carryon bag, it may be worth it to plan for this just in case. Also, I've been on int'l flights where they ran out of headphones, too. Eight hours is a long time to try and rest/read/lookout the window. Just something to think about.

Anchor Weight - glad you found out about the noodles. Please do report back after you have tried them. I love Asian food and am always interested in trying something new.

SBjane - under the pumpkin cheesecake recipe are two replies from people that made it and wrote positive reviews. It sure looks easy enough. I would suggest that if you make it this weekend for your visitors, don't tell anyone it is a "diet" dessert, just put it out with everything else. Everyone loves dessert, and it doesn't always have to be decadent. BTW - good job passing on the sweeties at work. It sounds like all of you nurses must resist temptation frequently.

Heidi - the pact with your friend sounds good to have, esp. just in time for the holidays.

Bamie - our last house had 19 Oak trees. I felt like I was raking leaves three times a week until New Years Eve. I didn't mind too much cuz I viewed the work as good-for-you exercise, but .... there can also be too much of a good thing - LOL.

Airmans Angel - your weight ticker combo is really cute, and your progress 'taint bad either!

Ruth - I'm sure it feels good to have Lucy back home now, and we know shes happy about it too. Let us know how the windows turn out.

Kvixen - for the RED SOX. They deserve it, and its about time. I'm happy for the team, and the city.

Palm Tree - sorry about the bronchitis. I got it last year and it was a real After the first course of antibiotics I didn't get better and had to go through it again. The side effects of those are quite undesirable. YUK. You mentioned falling off-plan during phase 1 and wondering why you can't commit. You also mentioned time is wasting. IT IS. I kept telling myself I'll start on Monday, the first of the month, the beginnig of summer, for New Years resolution, etc. and before I knew it many YEARS had gone by without me doing anything real about my health and fitness. You also said "I have to get to a point where, illness, life issues, etc. don't get in my way." Thats right, because that is LIFE and this is a WAY-OF-LIVING, not a short term diet until we reach a number on the scale. You must make up your mind that this is what you want and that it is in the best interest for you.
I would suggest you get comfortable with phase two for a while, maybe through the end of the year, and then go on phase 1 for two weeks after your trip and the holidays. (Others may offer a different view if you are addicted to sugar then you probably will want to go through all of phase 1.)

Barb - still in the mid 80's !! I'm sooo jealous - HA HA

Artemis - I know you're getting excited about your trip to Cambodia. Good to hear you are getting prepared phsyically. It sounds as if your trip is more rustic (hiking/walking) as opposed to more western (sightseeing/eating out) so I wouldn't worry too much about the rice and noodles and fruit. The Asian WOE is really balanced, but in a different way. I doubt you will be snacking, and if you do it will be healthy, like fresh fruit. You will probably won't be eating too much fat either so the carbs will be your source of instant energy for all that physical activity. Take lots of pictures and be careful. We want to see you in action.

YIKES. I can't believe I've been on the computer for so long, so I will sign off now and go for a walk before it rains.

Have a great weekend and Happy Halloween.

Thanks for starting us up, A Broad. I've been up since 4 when Miss Lucy hollered for attention. She is such a spoiled dog! All she wanted was petting and now she's zzzzing away on the couch.
Another busy day ahead which I won't bother listing as it's already listed in my Journal.
Right now it's time for Canadian bacon and eggs. Anybody want to join me?
Back a bit later.

Good morning, Chickies~~

Couldn't help myself. Just had to step on the scale and see what's what. I'm down another half pound. That makes two pounds since Tuesday. I know I won't meet my October goal, but now at least I'm moving in the right direction.

One thing I've noticed though, is that I'm a tad too attached to my salt. I really need to cut back. When I made my fajitas the other night I seasoned them with this achiote seasoning mix and doggoned if it didn't have not only sodium but MSG in it. Woke up yesterday and couldn't even get my wedding ring off my finger. Yikes! So, out that goes.

Broad, is TOM lurking? I seem to veer way out of control then...and other women I've talked to report the same. But glad you caught it and got back on track.

Artemis, several months back, I watched a Globe Trekker episode about Southeast Asia. It gave me nightmares to watch it. The Vietnamese and Cambodians have a totally different regard for animals than we westerners do and I was just so appalled that I know that I will NEVER be visiting there. But I hope you have a great trip and that your experiences are nothing like the traveler in that episode.

Well, Chickies, I need to get ready for work and to face Miss Mary this afternoon with my pathetic three pages of copy.

Hope everyone has a great day on the Beach!

Hi everyone!
I will let you all know how the pumpkin cheesecake goes over. I am going to take the suggestion to keep my mouth shut about the ingredients. Happily my next door neighbor is contemplating SBD (b/c I keep raving) and I will share any leftovers w/ her so she can see how good the food can be.
Ruth- how long have you had portaguese (sorry on spelling) water dogs? A friend at work also breeds them and let us visit her last litter. They were so cute. My daughter about cried cause I wouldn't let her take one home. Do you show?
Was pretty excited this am to add my little ticker tape. Now to figure out the rest of the tricks.
Having a slumber party tonight with 10 10 yr old girls. If anyone hears screaming...it's me.

Good morning all! Well I am not even lookin at the scale til mon.! It seems Tom loves me so he is back for the second time this month! I have not done good with eating at all. I eat on program foods I am just not eating no where near enough. Yesterday I had 2 sticks of string cheese and about 3 slices of deli turkey. I had to force myself to eat that. I don't know what's up but I know I will not lose weight like this and it has been this way the past few weeks. You would think no appetite would be a good thing! Mon. I am goin to try to start making myself eat 3 meals a day again. I know it is very important.

Abroad... You are up and at 'em this morning! I hope the sunshines again soon!

Ruth... Poor lil Lucy... she missed her Momma while she was gone! She just needs to learn to tell time! teehee I'll be right over for breakfast!

Mamacita...Congrats on your loss and keep up the good work! Tell her 3 pages is better than 0 pages.

To the chickies to come have a great day! I'm off to my moms for the weekend. Who by the way said she has lost 8 lbs already on the beach! Woo-Hoo! I gotta get busy! teehee

Good morning chickies! Happy Friday!!!

Thanks A Broad. I needed the reality check. Good for you for keeping a food log. It helps.

Ruth, I bet is is great to have Lucy home. I missed my Rudy terribly when we were on vacation. How are the puppies?

Baumie - I'm sorry to hear that Aunt Flo misses you so much she visited twice. That stinks!

Mama - good going on the losses!

SB Jane - I hope that the soiree goes well. I'm sure they won't even realize it's healthy. Let me know how you like it. I love pumpkin.

Well for me - I decided that I must redo Phase 1 now and do it right. Enough is enough. I've been trying to get this weight off for years. I finally found a plan that I can live with. I can't say I'd want to live on Phase 1 forever but Phase II and III are liveable and actually preferable to me than to not eating this way. I may never figure out the whys but I don't think that I have to in order to take control of my health and future. It's going to be a rough two weeks. With hallowean, my birthday and the trip, but you know what? I know that I can do this and I will.

Have a great day all!

Hey! Another gorgeous fall day is happening here! I realized I'd left my paint in the car trunk overnight and just went out to retreive it. It did not freeze! Whew!

I started stripping off the kitchen wallpaper this morning. It's that vinyl coated stuff so there is still paper on the walls. I refuse to get in a fuss about it though. Painter Bill can remove the paper if I don't get to it. I will not get into a mess as I did when I decided to do the upstairs bath on my own. Painter Bill had to rescue me there. Why the heck do I think I need to do everything by myself?

This weekend I am trying very hard to get back on track. I am rather bashful about being a MOD in here when I have not lost weight, in fact gained it, this month. Actually it's been over a year since I lost any significant amount! Mea culpa!

Lucy, who woke me at 4 this morning, is really clinging to me. I don't know if she misses her pups or the company of the other dogs at Morna's place. We are going to walk down for the paper and then drive to the vet for a weight check. She is very thin and is blowing her coat bigtime. Kelp and flaxseed oil and salmon oil are going to be on the menu for a while. She is probably going to do the show circuit this spring so I need her in good shape. By the way, I don't do the showing myself - I'm too soft! We have a trainer/handler who looks after that although I have taken a few courses in it.

Tempus fugit so I'll be back later.

Morning All -

Artemis - great idea about the backpack. We had a commercial on Television here a while ago that showed a lady standing next to full paint cans stacked up like a pyramid. It reflected how much weight she had lost. It really puts it into perspective doesn't it?

Ruth - Poor Lucy, I'm sure she misses her pups. Lots of love for her.

Under a palm tree - Half the battle is mental! Sounds like you have the right frame of mind to get this going for you!

SBJane - Oh my gosh, I've got a head ache just reading about the 10 girls. Good luck!

Mama - MSG - Yuck! I blow up like a balloon if I eat it. I too must review the amount of salt I take in. I know I get too much!

A broad - I'll keep you posted on the noodles - the distributor said that it should be available in one week at the store. He wants me to email them when I get them and he is going to send over some recipes.

Me - I have a halloween party at DS school. Have to bring the werewolf cupcakes. I let DS put the eyes on. They are all crooked, and now they are not only scarey but physcotic (sp?) werewolfs and it has taken everything in me not to straighten them out - but he is so proud. So I imagine there will be lots and lots of temptations today.

I've been dreaming of the beach, sunny, warm and I'm laying in a lounge chair drinking and reading! This Sunday we must turn our clocks back here in Michigan and it will be dark at 5:30 pm! So the beach sounds nice.

Hi, everyone...as much as I really want to write to everyone...it's another busy day.

Our secretary is out sick, so I get to do some of her work along with all of mine.

But it's Friday! I'm going to a Halloween party tomorrow, and the friend who's hosting it told me that we're going to play Cranium! I LOVE that game! Has anyone else here played it? What fun!

Tried on DH's coat last night, and it fit me!!! He's the skinniest man ever, so this was a shock! It must be big on him! Anyways, I may talk him into getting another coat for the winter so I can wear his. There are lots of coats at the salvation army that would fit him but don't fit me. We'll see...if not, I heard that the coats at Old Navy (if they fit me?) are on sale.

Not much else going on. Lots of great leftovers at home, but I think we'll go out to dinner tonight anyway, just for the fun of it. Not sure where yet, though. Definite homework to do tonight.

Hugs and lots of encouragement to those of you struggling through Phase 1. Remember, if you cheated more than once, you probably should consider jumping back on Phase 1 for a bit, to detox. I'd figure as long as it took you to detox the first time (mine takes three days) should be enough. What does everyone else think?

Have a great day and a great weekend, chickies!

Hi, everybody! I've been teaching all day so this is the first I have had a chance to post in the daily. I AM glad it is Friday but it will be a busy weekend for me (so what is new? )

After work, I plan to work out at the gym and then we need to get our Halloween lights and decorations up. I've never been this late with the decorations.

Tonight I have a change for work to do so I will probably try to be in bed at 10 and then I will be paged around 2AM. That should only take an hour so I hope to get a little sleep after that. I've got cub scout training all day and then a Halloween party to go to that is an hour drive so I will be rushing from one event to the other. All the usual weekend stuff (laundry, groceries etc.) will just have to wait until Sunday.

Barb I'm exhausted just reading your list of things to do! I am about to head out to Tn. for the weekend. I'll try to check in on y'all chicks while I am away. Tomorrow is shopping with the Queen! Who by the way has decided not to have a reception because she would rather keep the money to spend on her and her new husband the night of the wedding. I think she is gonna get a suite at Opryland Hotel or something! Wasted calls for rec. hall and tryin to find the best deal on a cake! Oh well atleast it is now before I reserved anything! teehee Well I'm goin to finish packin, load the van, and wait for DS to get here. Have a great Friday and a safe weekend all!

Hi Everyone,

Well we had our weighin for the end of week 2 on Phase 1 this morning. I only lost 1kgs or 2.2 pds this week. I think the food log is a great idea. I have been very stress out and just mindlessly munching on nuts all day.. if I can confine my munching to vegie sticks it would be OK But I am still really happy with the results - not simply the weight loss, but how I am feeling and the motivation has lasted an entire fortnight which has never happened before. My husband and I will do phase 1 for another week and really watch the snacking!

Have a wonderful on plan day everyone
