Thursday Beach Chat - May 20

  • We are sunny but cool - a perfect morning to till the wildflower-garden-to-be at one of the small parks in the village. We are full speed ahead this year on the Communities In Bloom initiative. I refuse to plant tubs and boxes, however, until the committee decides how the watering will be handled. Somehow I can't see myself trailing through the village lugging a 2.5K hose! Logistics are not the strong point of the Blooms committee!

This afternoon is my "afternoon off" when respite care arrives. I may hit a few garden centres in town although I still have about 60 lilies and a few other things to plant.

I have a lovely bouquet of white and mauve lilacs with pink bleeding heart on my diningroom table and a huge posy of lily of the valley on my kitchen table!

    Spring! Ya gotta love it!

So how are you celebrating this gift of a day in May?
  • Oh, Ruth, I'm so envious!! We can't grow lilacs down here in Hotlanta and I just love them! We used to have wild lilacs that would bloom in the spring on the hillsides of San Diego county. ~~sigh~~

Something has really chomped on my columbines But at least the cranesbill seems to be thriving. Can't wait til the hostas bloom!

"Aunt Flo" arrived last night. She's left me feeling a little out of sorts...her and the fact that I've seen more patients in the first three days of the week than I do the entire week on a normal basis. Whew! Can't wait for 2:30 tomorrow to get here, then it's off for the weekend.

I've been craving salty stuff lately...what's up with that??? I'm trying to be a good little beach chick, but every once in a while I cave and snag a chip or mini pretzel....even though I know they're horribly bad. Then that one chip tastes so good I want more...arrgghhh!

Wish I could just go hide somewhere with nothing but OP foods...then I wouldn't have a choice...

Well, you all have a great day on the beach.

  • Good morning!

My lilacs are doing GREAT! A dear friend gave me some of her father's lilac bushes a few years ago, and they haven't bloomed much until this year.
I've lost my clematis, though. And all my sage. What's with sage, anyhow? Is it just me? I can't seem to keep it for more that a couple of years.

Mamacita, I once saw in a magazine indoor arrangements done with Hostas. I think I may do that this year. There's SO much foliage on the things, and I like to have a bit of green in the house. (because I've killed almost all my houseplants. )

I'm having cravings, too. I had a couple of packets of Sesame Snacks last night. Oh, there were sweet.

    Ruth, enjoy your afternoon off!

Little Chick, get up. Hump day is OVER, baby!!
  • Morning chickies.... funny funny Ellis I am up and have my house work done except for folding a load of towel and a few dishes. I was up at 6:10 this morning although I am feeling a little sluggish got to be pre TOM. Got my hair totally chopped off last night. Feels so much better. Ruthie my lilacs have not even bloomed yet. Hoping they will soon. I love the smell. Well I hate to make this so short but I have a zillion things to do. ( Now that hump day is over and I can't stay in bed.) I am feeling rather nervous tommorow night is the first show. Well I must run and finish those towels talk at ya all later.
  • Hi Everyone
Yesterday was my first day on SB and I can't believe how many times I "almost" slipped up. I made the mistake of going to a movie with my fiancee (Shrek 2 is great, btw) and it was really hard watching him wolf down popcorn, starburst, and a extra large soda while I ate nuts and drank water. Be proud of me, though. I actually put a candy in my mouth and then spit it out 5 seconds later cuz I knew I'd feel guilty. Otherwise, I was able to stick to the diet dispite feeling really crummy. Did everyone else feel really bad the first couple days? My head hurt so bad I could only do 10 minutes on the treadmill in the morning, instead of the 45 minutes I have been doing every day. I ended up feeling guilty about that, and went back to the treadmill for another half hour during American Idol, but it was really hard. I don't feel as bad today, but I still have an awful headache. Is this normal?
How is everyone else doing today?

  • Good Afternoon All!

I have the day off today to study (have I even cracked the book open? No).

I spent the better part of the morning looking for my cell phone and found it completely by luck clipped to the sun visor in my car. I must have been so exhausted yesterday. I don't even remember driving home.

Ellis: Bean Counting - is a funny way to say accounting.

Diamond Grrl 7: I woke up with a massive headache this morning too! I chugged a huge thing of water and felt better after I ate a couple of eggs.

I am so envious of all of you with gardens!! I can't wait until DH and I will be able to buy a house! Do any of you grow vegetables? Hailing from the city originally I am completely fascinated by the idea of growing our own produce! I wonder how to grow Spaghetti Squash I spend so much money on that!

Well I have got to get my rear in gear and buy some more groceries before I eat all of the cereal in the house.....

oh yeah and then study LOL. Man I am procrastinator woman today!

I hope you all have fabulous OP days!
  • ANOTHER evening post....
Well, I'm done for the day. Whew. We had a 12 year old struck by lightening. She's going to be oK but it was pretty tense for awhile at work. Flew her to a burn unit 4 hours away.

Stayed OP, took the kids to Taco Bell, they didn't have anything lowfat or healthy so I just sat there and visited with them. Came home and had a few grapes and nuts.

Excited for a day off tomorrow so I can exercise and have some time for me.

Sounds like you all are doing well. I sure enjoy reading your posts.
  • Wow! Struck by lightening? That's insane -- and scary seeing as how we've had storms here in DC for 2 weeks straight [or at least it seems that way!]
