Default Boot Camp Challenge Day 48-Excuse Busting!

Morning troops! Need to make this quick as it is almost time to go home!

Here is the rest of the list of Excuse Busters:

I'M TOO FAR GONE! Well, baloney! Severely overweight people can, and do, get in shape. Previously sedentary people suffer heart attacks and then get active to improve their health. Your present physical condition should not stop you from becoming more active. Just take it slow, see a doctor if you need to, and be patient with the process! You won't go from being a couch potato to running a marathon in just a couple of months! Think about fitness as an ocean, not a pond...because your new healthy habits shouldn't end when you lose weight or start to feel better! This is a lifelong process, folks!

I'M TOO OLD! Don't tell Jack LaLane! People in thier 70's routinely run marathons, and a lot of them didn't discover fitness until later in life. Just think, exercise is kinda like the fountain of youth...it may not turn back the clock but it will certainly slow it down!

IT'S TOO BORING! Don't let yourself get in a rut! Find new, fun and different ways to get your exercise. Even if it is a simple as varying the route you walk, or doing a different exercise video, or changing your weight lifting routine. Do this BEFORE you get bored! Make change a part of your routine!

I'M NOT ATHLETIC! So? Unless you are planning on learning gymnastics, baseball, or some sport requiring a high degree of coordination it really doesn't matter. If what you really mean is "I'm not strong," then you can change that! Once you start exercising not only will you be stronger, but you will FEEL stronger and more athletic!

IT MAKES ME TOO SORE OR I MAY HURT MYSELF! Dump the "no pain, no gain" mentality. It isn't true, and can cause you a heap of problems. Start slow...and have reasonable goals for yourself based on your fitness level, age, and general health.

I'LL DO IT LATER! (Sound familiar, Harmony? ) Sometimes you just have to be like those Nike ads, and JUST DO IT! If you tend to put it off until later then later never comes, you need to reschedule. The reason some experts recommend exercising early in the day isn't because it is somehow more effective, it is because people tend to stick with it better! So if you can arrange your schedule to accomodate morning exercise that may be a solution. If that isn't possible, then you need to schedule exercise the way you schedule other appointments. Write it down, put it on your calendar...make it a date!

Group Activity for Week of 10/12-745 minutes

Where are our minutes? Are you guys totally burnt out?

Joanne, don't give up! Your weight loss has averaged out to about 1.5 pounds a week, which considering you have so little to lose is really good! One way you can increase your metabolism is to include some resistance or strength training in your routine. Building muscle is a sure fire way to get your engine rev'ved up! Prevention has a video called Fat to Firm in 20 minutes which I highly recommend. It is a very basic, easy program using light weights. The video stresses good, safe form. It got me started lifting weights and now I make it a regular part of my fitness routine!

It is time for me to go home, troops! Busy night at work, glad to be getting out of here!

Have a great day, recruits!

Hi ladies ...

Haven't had ANY time to post ... too busy at work/home to get any time on line ...

Okay Franny, exercise time for yesterday (Tuesday) ... an hour and a half cardio (45 am, 45 pm) and 30 minutes weights ...

So far today 45 minutes cardio a.m. ...

Monday was a holiday, so I took it off from exercise also ... gym opens on Sundays starting this week so I'll get in an extra day (they close during the summer months on Sundays) ...

The reason I always do 45 minutes on the treadmill first thing in the morning is to avoid the excuse of "doing it later" ... then if I don't make the gym at night at least I did something.

Have a good afternoon!!!

Kathy

Sorry I haven't been here, been busy.

I had 15 minutes of exercise today, 12 yesterday, and 10 on Sunday.

I've eaten so much I feel sick. And I'm planning on eating more. And I didn't get to the gym today. And I'm depressed. And our daughter is depressed, and we just found out that she was "experimenting" by not taking her meds for a week.

Well, yesterday I "Just Did It" and got on the treadmill for 22 minutes. My mom was challenging me to go the extra 2 minutes, but I had already increased my speed from 5.0 to 5.3 and added an incline of 1, so it was pretty hard, but I survived it! It helped a lot that "We are the Champions" and "We Will Rock You" were playing on the radio -- good music is wonderful for motivation. Anyway, I also did 20 minutes on the bowflex, and today I did 1 hour of bellydancing. :-D
