Dessert, we do like to end our meal with something "naughty"!
Did I say DO?
I have found fruit to be my "naughty" dessert.
It is simple, but elegant.
It tastes good.
You can eat it all!
It it colorful.
It can be dressed up or down.
We learn to be creative.
So, what IS your favorite fruit and how do you make it?
~~~~~~~~~
I ate my Lo-CAl Plate And I found it to be tasty and filling.
I watched my 230 pound friend eat a Monster Breakfast Burrito and listened to her talk about her diet and her pitfalls.
She is 71 and is a yo-yo dieter with health problems. I sent her all the SB things and printed out EVERYTHING (lots lots lots!), but.....her WOE is to starve herself. She actually feels good about doing it this way. I keep telling her that she has to eat to lose.
I don't nag her, just tell her some of YOUR tips and encourage her to eat better and healthier.
In some ways I think she should quit dieting as she is doing more harm than good right now.
She really doesn't have the support that can help her. Without loving friends and family it is a lonely journey. We all need to hear compliments, hear that we are doing good and the I am PROUD of you's is like a song from the heart.
I listen and understand, but to me she really isn't ready to accept that she can, could and should do it for HERSELF.
My eye exam was...........
I don't know what to say about it other than he is happy with my progress.
Thank you all for your good thoughts and well wishes.
They mean a lot to me.
Have a great day and enjoy some fruit.
Marcie
Grandma Marcie! I am so glad to hear you doctor is pleased with your progress, but I get the impression you had hoped for more? It must be very frustrating to not heal as quickly as you like....but be patient! You'll get there...I KNOW you will!
It is so funny you wrote about fruit today! I was just thinking about fruit...how much I eat, is it too much, what other kinds I should try! I have been having a smoothie made with tofu, FF yogurt, and frozen fruit everyday! Sometimes I'll add half of a banana if there is one sitting around. I love strawberry, but add peaches or mango sometimes, too. I think I'll get some frozen raspberries and give that a try. I love my smoothies...no problems chewing and it tastes like a big treat!
I know what you mean about your friend and her struggles. My DH works with a woman who is struggling to lose weight. He has shared with her my successes, and his firm belief that a large part of my success is due to working out. She lamented that it wouldn't work for her because she doesn't have a husband! I would like to tell her that it is ME getting all sweaty, NOT him! I agree that support is imperative, but sometimes you have to go out and find your support and not wait for it to come to you! I wanted my DH to tell this woman about this site, but he said she would be offended by the name! Maybe she wouldn't get upset if I mentioned it?
Marcie, time is a great healer. Let's hope your next check-up leaves you more excited. At least the doc is happy.
Franny, maybe a note from you would work? On the other hand, she needs an attitude change first.
Fruit! I am drooling thinking of the big bowl of fall raspberries I picked yesterday. Would it be very very decadent to have ricotta creme and berries for breakfast?
Hi my fav fruit is.......watermellon. A question for you girls. Starting phase two today. I used to have fruit smoothies all the time. I make mine with orange juice, yogurt and fruit. But I am thinking that might not be a good thing for phase 2 what do you guys think?
Hi Ladies! I'm a little late this morning, but for a good reason! I finally got on the step machine!!! Yay! I was up 2 lbs from the "naughty" weekend and rather than punish myself, I just did the healthier thing. Now you KNOW you're all my inspiration...!!! Thanks!
Marcie -- As we age, we heal more slowly. Be patient. The doctor did say there was progress. Maybe it's like losing weight...Good, permanent things may just take a little more time. I'd love to wake up healthy and thin! I've tried it for years!
I love fruit, but I am still (forever?) on week 1 of Phase 1!!! My favorite fruit is a cute guy named Jesse with whom I was friends in high school!!! Otherwise I think mangos and blackberries are way (weigh) up there! Anyone else ever heard of gooseberries or lingonberries? My grandmother used to make an amazing gooseberry preserve!
Hey y'all: How many therapists does it take to change a lightbulb? Only one, but the lightbulb has to WANT to change!!!
Franny and Marcie, I think we all want to help our friends...but sometimes they deep, down, inside, aren't wanting our help. Or, sometimes they aren't really ready for the change. It's so giving of you. Don't take it personally.
About three years ago, I was 222 lbs trying to decide if I wanted to try to save my bumpy marriage, hating my life and never trying things to make me happy. I ate for comfort, and boy, did I need a lot of comfort!!! It didn't help. I didn't like me!!! And I didn't enjoy my kids as much as a should have because I hated myself and my situation!
My friends (didn't really have many) didn't know how to help me or were too wrapped up in their own issues and I was obviously not ready to help me either.
Finally, on the brink of financial disaster (we are still living there) and on anti-depressants (can't afford them anymore) and with no feelings of hope, I thought the only way was up.
I started to take control of some of the things about me that I could. I vowed that once I was back in control I could make decisions to make life better for my 2 kids and my DH if he wanted to be a part of us. I got into therapy and also went on Atkins. It took a loss of 40 lbs before I even would consider exercise!
What I am trying to say is that sometimes you just have to WANT a change soooo badly it's worth the risks and losses involved in making that change!
Sorry... didn't mean to go on and on... and am not brave enough to put my whole story in Bios (yet).
I hope you guys have yummy fruit today for me too!!! I am definately staying on plan today!!!
Marcie, I just love fruit. My favorite is berries....all kinds, any kind! I try to eat a cup of blueberries each day because they're such a wonderful antioxidant (and so tasty!).
This morning I put frozen blackberries, strawberries, and blueberries in my blender with skim milk and a packet of splenda to make a wonderful smoothie. Sometimes I add a little wheat germ to the mix.
Marcie and Franny.....My DM used to always tell me that you
can't change anyone except yourself. Over the years I
have found that she spoke the truth. It only ends in lots
of frustration and anxt on your part if you push change on
others. Sad, but true!
Hi, Ruth, Sflake, Lisa, and Littlechick!!
J&L......your humor cracks me up!!! But you sound like a
lady who is right on target for success! Congrats on taking
charge of your life!
Marcie, hon....hang in there. You are in my thoughts and
prayers for healing! I'm sending you hugs across the miles!
Have a great day everyone!
~Sharon
Robin-It also takes a lot of bravery to throw over old comforts and habits, even if they ARE unhealthy!!! GOOD FOR YOU for being brave enough to take that step.
My favorites are peaches and pears. They both have such soft skin, and such juicy insides! Well, I have had some pears that seemed pretty dry, but I like the juicy ones. I like the taste of apples, but the skin is more tough and it hurts my teeth to bite into. I'm not at the fruit-eating part yet, but one more week, and I will be! Yay!!!
My all time favorite fruit is cherries, then peaches. Actually., I love most fruit except not too fond of some of the tropical ones. Frozen fruit is wonderful to use in smoothies, but I really miss having it fresh when it's not in season.
If you like blueberries, add them to your smoothies. I have read so much good information about them. They are supposed to be one of the most healthful of fruits.
Little Chick, I'm no expert, but I think the oj may be too much in the smoothy(it has a high glycemic index). Try a little nonfat milk and a tablespoon on SF Davinci Vanilla syrup, frozen fruit and some ice cubes in the blender. Tofu is great in a smoothy, and if you're not a big fan of it the Davinci syrup makes all the difference!
I know I have mentioned DaVinci in several posts,(no, I don't sell it!!), But I really like it and it is so versatile.
Robin- you are hilarious! (and have a lot of good insight)
Keep hanging in there chickies--we are all in this together!
FRUIT: YUMMY I don't think I can even choose a favorite. I guess I'd have to say peaches, pears, cherries, blueberries, Mangos, cantelope and not necessarily in that order.
Marcie: It sounds like good news that your Dr. is happy with your progress. Every day things will get better.
Ruth: Raspberries and ricotta creme sound like a wonderful breakfast.
Hi everyone. Sounds like everyone is doing well staying OP. See you tomorrow. Lizzie
