Default Have a question about the "flu"

Hey everyone. Before this diet I was on the "crack the fat code" and experienced achiness and headache the second day. After that I felt fine. So I started this diet because after 3 weeks, the other diet just kind of drops you off-with no other eatting plan.

Ok so, today is my fourth day. On day 2 after dinner I experienced a full blown full (both ends-sorry) and it lasted for like 7 hours. Yesterday all I could keep down was a cup of yogurt (2-1/2 cups actually at different times of the day) and at night I had 3 eggs because I knew that I needed to have some protein-and didn't want the crackers/toast that my body was craving. I did get a tall glass of water down over the course of the day and a diet soda-and spent the whole day in bed. Today I am still acky with a headache but ready to eat.

So I was just wondering if this happened to anyone else? I was expecting to feel achy but I wasn't expecting the whole throwing up & the other end stuff. Anyone else?

ps-no one I know has the real "flu" so I am thinking this is my carb-detox. Lost 7 pounds in 2 days so far-but today up one pound and I barely ate yesterday! I am motivated to stay on track though-because I never want to go through that again! LOL!!!

That really sounds like a stomach virus. We had one with the exact same symptoms go through my house about a month ago.
Maybe someone else will have had an experience like that, but I have never heard of anything like that associated with SB or any diet for that matter.
I hope you're feeling better!

The South Beach Diet "flu" is usually headaches and some body aches/sluggish feeling from detaxing the caffeine and sugars and BAD carbs out of your system.

I've never heard of this as a side effect from following SBD so please see a doctor. The chickies sound right, I'd agree it sounds like a stomach virus!

Thanks ladies! I wanted to put this out there because I didn't know if I was just sensitive to "no carbs" and was wondering because the "crack the fat loss code" diet allows you up to 20G. of carbs in the first two weeks and then you introduce more carbs later. I was thinking that maybe the extreme cutout of carbs was too much for me. Thanks for the ideas.

Any thoughts on why I am up a pound and I barely ate yesterday? Is that the bodys "starvation mode" kicking in?
Happy Losing everyone!

Personally, I think the whole "starvation mode" is a big crock.

I am just as guilty as the next gal of getting on the scale every day and stressing over the little fluctuations. But we have to remember that our bodies are very complicated. It's the trend over weeks that we need to focus on, not the readings we get day by day.

This is a healthy way of eating. There are no two ways about that. If you eat this way and watch your portions, you will lose weight and, more importantly, be healthier.

I think when you have a stomach virus, your whole body chemistry gets thrown out of whack. Losing 7 pounds in 2 days is A LOT, and more than likely all 7 lbs will not stay off. Usually when I have a virus I will lose a few pounds but as soon as I get back to normal, it will mostly come back. Since you are dieting you may be able to hang onto some of that loss, but try not to count on all of it. If you can manage to keep it off, great, but please try not to get discouraged if some comes back. I know my husband always hates to eat normally again after a virus because he thinks he will "undo" the weight loss, but I always scold him to eat or he'll just end up making matters worse for himself! Make sure you keep getting your calories in with the right foods and you will lose the weight. :-)

Oh, I don't think it's a crock Kara. lol Honestly, when I don't get at least 40 oz of water in a day, I bloat up and gain. Esp when/if I exercise! My body holds on to the fluids. I go back to drinking lots of water and presto, back down.

Not the bloating so much as the low-calories-causing-your-body-to-hold-onto-fat theory. That I think is baloney. I am NOT advocating eating extremely low calorie diets, but I also do not think that if you have one day under 1400 calories your body starts to stockpile fat, and that's what I hear a lot of people say.
