Default Agave Nectar

This is probably a dumb question..but my husband's dr. suggested he do the South Beach Diet plan. I haven't had time to do much research yet...but was wondering if Agave could be used in place of Splenda.

Thanks,

dee

not a dumb question! yes, you can use agave nectar to sweeten your foods/beverages, but you have to count the calories towards your sweet treats.

Puppetlady, to you and your husband!

Agave nectar is something you can try, in Phase 2 and onwards (i.e. NOT in Phase 1), but you have to be careful with it. It can cause cravings, especially if you use too much, and you do need to be aware of the calories.

There have been many discussions about this in the forum. Here are some links to older threads that address it:

Thanks for the nice welcome and all the information links! Just finished making my grocery list and I'm off to the store. Can't say I'm excited...but...oh well...here goes!

Interesting that it's not recommended for phase 1. Why is that? Doesn't it have a lower glycemic number than sugar?
