I should start getting up earlier so it's easier to keep up with the personals. I'm so lazy!
Ruthxxx, how are you doing? I'm glad to see Disney made a new friend. CyndiM, sorry about your friend. But garlic broth sounds good! Loriann, are you going to go back to the doctor?? Femmecreole, your son sounds hot. The whole smart thing, and all. Too bad I'm not single and I live in NC! Schmoodle, often my friend's mom doesn't hear from her son weeks at a time as a well. I gather your husband is in the marines, navy or? Through my friend's mom, I see how hard it can be. You are strong! I hope you hear from him soon. Cottagebythesea, what is that turkey pumpkin soup??! That sounds original. I've been craving pumpkin lately... is there any way you would share the recipe? *puppydog eyes* :p Zeffryn, I'm a Big Lots Princess. I love how I can find quality stuff for cheap. There are a good place to buy Xmas presents as well, I just pull off the big lot stickers if the item happens to have one. And they've got good $5 candles. They may not be Yankee candles (if anyone likes them, I love them) but they're pretty decent. Family movies: Well we watched The Water Horse not too long ago which was good yet predictable and I saw the beginnings of Nanny McPhee ... it was pretty good thus far, those kids are terrible and hilariously bad. I'm not trying to leave anyone out, just trying to get through personals quickly 'cause I'm a lazy girl :D Hi everyone. Baby boy is angry that he has to sleep in what BF calls a baby jail now. A crib! We got the fisher price Rainforest set from my great-aunt when I was still pregnant and I was excited to wash it so we could use it. Well, let's just say it was a pain in the :censored:. First, the ruffle thing confused me. I was like, where in the world does this thing go? On the springboard or on top of the mattress and then the sheet? BF said obviously the ruffle was made for older cribs and it couldn't be used, but that doesn't make sense because fisher price has made rainforest stuff pretty recently. I think BF just didn't know how to do it and didn't feel like taking the time to figure it out. So we discarded the ruffle. We got the mattress sheet on, and then it was time for the bumper. I didn't want to use the bumper because of the associated SIDS risk, but BF said he was old enough that it wasn't a concern... but to my knowledge, the sids risk is from 0 months to 1 year, with the most crucial time between 2-6 months. While DS is older than 6 months, I still didn't want to take any chances. However, the nurse at the health department said it was fine. I still wasn't sure... but we tried to put the bumper up. That thing was impossible... simply impossible. When we tied it to all four posts, there was parts on the inside that didn't fit perfectly against the inside of the crib and no amount of adjusting fixed it. I took it off in frustration and threw it to the side. I wasn't comfortable using it to begin with, no matter how adorable the rainforest frogs and giraffes were. So, the only thing from that $100 set that DS is using is the mattress sheet. The bumper and ruffle are crumped in a heap on the floor. The blanket that goes with the set is here in the living room, used for his tummy time He was crying and he hated it, even though he could stretch out now. (Yes he's a little late getting into a crib, but the bassinet was pretty big and roomy). I put him in a long sleeved, long legged green Old Navy baby thingy. (who knows, they all have different names. Jumpers. Onesies. Etc. Anyway, it was comfy!) We held him in the bed for a little bit and his daddy made him laugh. I told him not to get him so worked up before bed but it was still quite cute. Finally we put him in the jailcell and he kept twisting his body to look at me through the rungs. Finally he went to sleep though. His deafening cries from earlier had stopped. We'll see what sort of fight we're up against tonight, however. He knows now that we'll take him out of it and give him attention, and my grandma said he'll learn to manipulate us that way. We'll see! I have no qualms about taking a crying baby out of the crib to comfort him. It works for me! And he knows he's loved. Anyway, if anyone has any advice regarding the bumper and ruffle, let me know. It was a pain. |
mel - the ruffle goes under the mattress. Your thought that BF didn't know how to use it was probably right ;). Also, if your DS can roll over by himself...he is pretty much out of the high risk category for SIDS.
That being said....bumpers are nice....for looks. We had a breathable bumper, not quite as cute but kept his little feet inside the crib. They should also have ties that tie in the middle slats as well as to the four corners....yours didn't? As for taking the baby out of the crib every time he cries....you are setting yourself up to get burned, dear. He is going to need to put himself to sleep by himself eventually....you do NOT want to end up with a two year old who can't go to sleep by himself. A friend's child has to be rocked to sleep every night and it can take hours. You are not mistreating him by leaving him in the crib to cry himself to sleep...he is old enough to do so. You would be teaching him independence..a vital skill for toddler-hood. If you absolutely must calm him - don't take him out of the crib, go into his room, pat his back until he calms down and keep telling him that it is time to sleep...it might take a bit, but he'll learn to calm down on his own and won't learn that if he cries hard enough - he don't have to go to sleep. Even 8 month old babies know how to manipulate and it won't get better as they get older if you set the precedent now. |

Mel as a young mother who had no clue what she was doing I made a HUGE disaster with my first born of bedtime routines. When my second was born I regreted it to no end. It took weeks of sitting by his bed, at the end of his bed, at the door and then outside the door before that child would goto sleep at night. Trust me when I say you don't want to start bad habits. In the long run it will be much more painless for both of you to get it right now. The hardest thing about being a parent is knowing when your love for them is actually hurting them, and it doesn't get any easier the older they get. :D

I DO track what I eat... I DO I DO I DO! Every packet of splenda.. glass of water... everything I put in my mouth. I use my-calorie-counter.com.. they have way more stuff than fitday in their database.
Breakfast was 2 eggs and some broccoli... lunch is an apple with peanut butter... Dinner will be baked chicken and veggies... ceasar salad. snacks will be Walker Diet shakes... I discovered vanilla with 1/2 teaspoon of SF white chocolate pudding. |
I got way too frustrated with Fitday the last time I used it so I refuse to use it now.
Does anyone watch Days of our Lives? Nicole is sooo pregnant with EJ's baby. I hate soaps. That's the only one I watch, since I discovered it as a child during summer vacations. Brenda, what an adorable picture. :) |
