popcorn is not allowed in phase 1!

basically remember veggies and lean protein

dairy and beans are important too

nuts and seeds are limited to one serving a day....
and don't forget your good fats!

st2826! I have to envy you, living in such a beautiful place! You should be able to get a lot of fresh veggies (and fruits on Phase 2), and we have a wealth of wonderful recipes for using them in our Phase 1 recipe boards. Make sure to eat plenty of beans and dairy on Phase 1, too, to help keep you satisfied.

st2826! You live in a wonderful place!

Actually, the kinds of things that are traditional in Greek cooking would fit in very well with SBD. Healthy oils, lots of fresh veggies and fruit, lean proteins, etc. I bet you can get a much larger variety of feta cheese than we can--is it easy to find reduced fat cheese? We all drool over Greek yogurt and I assume that's easy for you to find too, huh? Make sure you get dairy and beans in your diet. I'm not really sure how much beans are in the normal Greek diet--are they hard for you to find? Is it difficult to find whole grain items?

Try marinating lean cuts of meat in herbs and healthy oils/vinegars, then grilling them (do people often grill food there? If not, you could bake them in an oven or even pan fry them with as little oil as possible...or microwave?). Then, add some fresh veggies--you can steam them and add sauces like lemon juice, healthy trans-fat-free margerine, etc.

Glad to have you with us!

I've got to say that Greek Salads are a staple for me (lettuce, olives, peppers, red onion, feta, cucumber, tomatoes) w/ grilled chicken. Try to get veggies in wherever you can. And be sure to drink lots of water.
