Default Friday's TGIF Chat

Good Morning!

It's a rainy morning here, but it's cooled off enough that I can open the windows, so I'm happy.

I'm sitting here with my coffee and contemplating what I'm going to do today. Maybe I'll wait for most of the morning commute traffic to clear out, then head over to Trader Joe's for some groceries. That sounds real exciting, doesn't it? We're thinking of going to Cape May tomorrow, so I may as well get my shopping done today.

Pour yourself a cup of your morning beverage and let's chat a bit.

I started the chat and then spotted you two keeners. Flashy graphic, Little Chick. Cottage, off to Cape May? One of these days, I'll join you. I love the ocean and Lake Ontario is about as good as it gets around here.

Yesterday was not one of my better days but today is a brand new start. My darling Lucy is worrying me and we can't get into the Ottawa clinic until Wednesday next week. The good news is that she is finally eating better - tuna and kibble this morning! She can't take her meds without food and eyeglasses don't count as food.

Running a bit late this a.m. but am still going to the gym for a gentle work-out. Donna comes to clean mid-morning and I'll leave her in charge of Hershey and take off for town to pick up my glasses. The staff at the optometrist office all want to meet Lucy. I'll have to keep her well leashed or she'll go bananas when she sees all the eyeglasses on display!

Kevin didn't show yesterday to work on the barn so I'll call him before I leave for the gym. He gets overbooked but I sure want things to get going. I hate chaos - even if it's outside the barn! Right now there's a pile of stuff in front of the doors that I have to navigate to get at garden tools.

Have a lovely Friday whatever your plans.

Happy Friday chicks! It's a bittersweet day for me today.

It's sweet because, I GOT THE GRAPHIC DESIGN JOB AT THE ADVERTISING FIRM! Thank you, thank you, thank you for sending positive thoughts my way during my interviews! This was the one and only job I've applied for since graduating with my graphic design degree in May, and Richmond is so flooded with creatives...I can't still can't believe they chose me!

And the bitter part comes with leaving my current job. I've been working at a TV station for six years now, and they've bent over backwards to help me get my second degree. They always knew my interests were elsewhere, but my co-workers have come to be like family to me. I will miss them more than I can express. I sobbed the whole time I was writing my resignation letter last night. This is going to be so hard, but leaving is the right move.

Cottage, hope you get out to the cape this weekend! Happy shopping at Trader Joe's. I wish we had one in Richmond.

LC, TGIF is right! I hope you have a great one!

Ruth, I'm glad Lucy's appetite is getting better. Hopefully she won't wash that tuna down with an eyeglass display!

Betty Congratulations! That is great news!!

Ruth That is hilarious that they want to meet Lucy. Lucy has given them quite a bit of busimess, eh?

Cottage We don't have Trader Joe's here, but I hear so many good things about them! I hope you all make it to the cape tomorrow, I know you have been itching to go there.

Me- Today is going to be a busy one for me, we are trekking up to school today for a meeting. Then spending the afternoon at the preschool my girls attend. Megan starts there on the 20th, so it will be good for her to be there for the afternoon. I am subbing for the teacher, so it should be fun. Afternoons are pretty easy, they nap, have a snack, and if it isn't scorching outside, we will go out to play. The great part is that we are trading services and I will take both girls there next Wednesday for the entire day!! I do have a required meeting at school on that day that will last a few hours. But other than that, the day will be mine.

Good morning chicks,
I'm waiting for my walking buddy and thinking that she might not show today, but I've got my sneaks on and ready to go, so if she doesn't show up, I'll just go without her.
Hooray for Friday! Today is much like yesterday, work, laundry, plan menus for the week, get groceries. Maybe I'll be able to send the kids up to the grandparents for the traditional Friday night sleepover. This weekend I'll clean house, sort out the chaos in my summer kitchen, help DD move some more stuff to the apartment, and I'm really hoping to take the kids down to the IMAX for Harry Potter. It's an exciting life, and it's mine, all mine!

Kiko, a day to yourself is really something to look forward to! Precious and rare around here...
Way to go Betty! You are lucky to be leaving a job you love, to go to another exciting new opportunity!
cottage, what are your favorite things at TJ's? Everytime I go, I get one or two new products to try. I've found some awesome things there, but also some to avoid.
Ruth, maybe you could find some eyeglasses shaped doggie biscuits to distract Lucy. Or invent some yourself - you might get rich!
Good morning littlechick, have a great one!

Well, no sign of my buddy, so I'm off to walk alone...

LC, I love the graphics!

Ruth, Here's wishing you a better day today! I'm sure they'll love Lucy at the optometrist's - Beware of Lucy, the Famous Eyeglass Eating Dog! I share your fustration at the vet not being able to see her until next week! But it's a good sign that she has her appetite back, how's her energy? I'm praying that she'll be okay.

Betty, congratulations on landing the new job! That's going to be hard, handing in your resignation, but in the end you are doing the right thing.

Kiko, sounds like a fun day for you! Now, remember to schedule in something special for you to do next Wednesday, OK?

I just made up a batch of jello. Last night I was craving something cold and sweet, and discovered a container of jello in the back of the fridge. I had forgotten how good it is! I made some lemon this time, and I'm going to fold some FF Cool Whip into it to enjoy as a sweet treat when I feel the urge coming on again. Maybe that will keep me away from the ice cream!

Morning everyone!

Betty..wonderful news on the job!!!!!
Ruth...I have 2 pairs of glasses that were "dog et". My daughter's cocker spaniel managed to chew up both of them..I keep them as emergency glasses.

Kiko, Smoodle, Chick, Cottage...have a great day!

Looks like a long day ahead here. Have some work to do, then we are headed to Lowes. The school where I teach wants me to go get a couple of big pots and plants to go on either side of the office doors. It is too hot to even breathe here and I have to go plant shopping (what in the world can I get in August..not a good time to buy plants around here!) Guess I'll get trellis for each one and a vine that is evergreen then when fall plants come out, I'll get some pansies that will last through the winter.

After that chore, we are headed to either New Orleans or Baton Rouge to Wholefoods. I want to try to find some Agave necter and some Greek yogurt that I read about on Kaylyn's blog.

My oldest son left this week on a road trip with some buddies to California till college begins again. I'm glad because he can visit my daughter..I think she is kind of homesick. My youngest son and his girlfriend headed out to Florida for the next few days, so it will be way to quiet around here.

Good morning all
Cottage -- I remember Cape May. I grew up in Jersey, and my parents used to rent a house there every summer when I was really young. My biggest memories: Mom would let us eat sugar cereal! I believe I chose Count Chocula.
LC -- Indeed.
Ruth -- Doesn't your dog hurt herself, eating glasses?
Betty -- Congratulations!! Yes, bittersweet, but better to be sad to leave than relieved, in a way. You're inspirational -- that is really a great feeling to have been picked out of a big qualified pool! Living in Boston, the land of the recent graduates, I am surrounded by people just like me, looking for jobs. Very intimidating!
Kiko -- Wow. A day to yourself! As a nanny, I can appreciate what that must mean to you! Kids are draining!

As for me, I GAINED A POUND!!!!!!!!! All I ate were a few (maybe 20) of those damn Cheezits, but I didn't do anything else off plan. I did eat dinner pretty late...that is so unmotivating, though. I feel like the weight should just be falling off. No bread, no alcohol, tons of veggies, and I've been regular with exercise, AND no binges -- this is a major change for me. How could I have GAINED??? Well, I'm back at it again today, anyway. Breakfast followed by the gym followed by lots of schoolwork. I have class all weekend long so probably won't be checking in so much, but will be thinking of you all!

Schmoodle, I'm off to TJ's in a few minutes. My favorite things to buy there are their nuts, (always cheaper!), and I really like the bags of frozen chicken tenderloins, too. Other staples I always get there are TJ's nonfat Greek yogurt, their jasmine green tea, frozen veggies, and their shrimp is always a good buy, too. I'm lucky that we have 2 TJ's fairly nearby. I love that store.

Morning Ladies! My heiny is dragging today, did not sleep well, finally threw in the towel at 4 and got up and did some laundry. Bring on the coffee!

Shopping was an experience with my kids lastnight, son 20 and daughter 16 trying to give input on what I should wear to the reunion. I must have tried on 20 outfits (dont tell them it was fun seeing this new body of mine in clothes that fit!) They picked a sundress that I just wasn't thrilled with because I didn't feel it showed fully what I have acheived. They finally caved and let me buy some black capris (A SIZE 4!!!!) and a cute top with a nice cut to it.

Betty congrats on the job! How exciting! I remember crying like a baby when I left the billboard company I worked for. I understand them becoming like family and it being difficult. You'll do great I am sure!

Everyone have a great day, I will check back later!

WOOHOO for Friday! It's been a few weeks since my last post. I've been struggling to stay on plan and been consumed with reading Taking Charge of your Fertility. It's been frustrating trying to decide what to do...go see a specialist, give it more time. What's even more challenging for me is at least 6 or 8 people here at work are pregnant and every day it seems someone else announces they are too.

I hope to finally finish up the painting in our hallways this weekend so we can get the house back together. Blanca comes next weekend to clean and want everything picked up. She shouldn't have to clean around the mess.

Cottage-I love Trader Joe's. I am in there just about every week. LC-Have a great day. I love your graphic! Kiko-Have fun subbing. I can't believe school is so close to starting. Where has the summer gone???? Schmoodle-Where is the IMAX around MD/DC? Sounds like fun! I haven't gotten into HP yet, but everyone I know has. Enjoy! Cat-Enjoy your silence while it last. What about planting pansies? It might be too hot, but if kept watered and in the shade, they might do ok until it cools down a bit. I love planting them in the fall as they last all winter here in VA. Ruth-I will keep Lucy in my prayers. Glad she is eating better. Betty-Congratulations on your new job. I know what you mean about leaving people behind when you start a new job, but know that you can still keep in contact with them even after you leave.

I hope everyone enjoys their Friday. Keep cool!

Cheers!

Sheila

Good Morning Girls,
I am so happy it is Friday! I am writing a list of all the things I want to accomplish this weekend. Hopefully, I will get thru most of the boxes downstairs. That would be huge, then I would have a big burden off my shoulders. Most of my sons things are gone, so that also helps clean up the clutter.
I wonder if clutter and weight go hand in hand?
Have a wonderful day and weekend, if I don't post, you know where I will be.

Way too hot here for pansies yet..they usually hit the stores around late October. They last all winter here too. Last year I put them all down my front walkway and in window boxes and they lasted till early May before the heat got them. Soon as they come out, that's exactly what I think I'll put in them for the winter, then maybe marigolds or something for the spring since they will probably get kind of negleted over the summer months. I like to start stuff from seed, but not going through all that trouble for school.
