Question Frozen Fruits/Vegies?

I've done a lot of research on the Sonoma Diet and it appears to be a dietary lifestyle I can live with, but I have one problem. I live in a very rural area and have little access to fresh fruits and vegetables. I can, however, get most of the fruits and vegetables I've seen mentioned in the frozen food section. I realize fresh is always best, but does anyone know of any reason why frozen would be detrimental to this plan? Does anyone here use frozen fruits and/or vegies on this plan?

Thanks! Mare

Frozen veggies aren't a problem on the Sonoma plan. Fresh are best , like you said, but there are even a few veggies that are healthier frozen. I cannot for the life of me remember which they are right now, but it has something to do with the loss of nutrients of fresh by the time it gets to most of our tables. With certain veggies, freezing locks in the nutrients so you'd actually be getting more. I think one of them is peas, but not certain.

Anyway, use fresh when you are able, frozen when you can't. Since you mention you are in a rural area, any chance that you can maybe start a garden yourself? Might be a little late now for some things, but stull can get a few home grown things before fall.

I occasionally use frozen veggies, but that's mostly because I have easy access and I prefer the taste. I avoid canned though.. ick!!

Thanks for the reply, Linda. I do grow most of my spices in the house and a few things like lettuce, tomotoes, and peppers in the greenhouse. Unfortunately, my growing season is so short I'm limited to what I can even grow in the greenhouse. We'll be back to hard freezes at night in about 6 weeks and they go through late May to mid-June. I'm actually thinking about setting up a hydroponic system, so I can grow more in the house.
