Hi. I take a multi vitamin, drink green tea and take juice plus. The food is very healthy, but you can use all the vitamins you can get. Good luck. The priciest thing is buying all the spices to get you started. If you dont already have them. It also requires some prep and cooking, but its worth it and you after a while you dont need recipes and can wing it. Good luck.

I saw a doctor on oprah and he said not to take calcium without magnesium. NOt sure why, but I would look into it. He said they should always go together to reep the benefits of both.

Not responding to any one particular post, just throwing my opinion in that it's a dangerous idea that more is better with taking vitamin supplements. Many vitamins and minerals have an established upper limit of safety, a number (like iron and copper) can do damage when they build up in the body, others just are toxic in high dosages. It's almost impossible for a lay person to sort all this out and know exactly what's going on with their body when taking all these supplements. I concur with someone up thread who said a simple multi vitamin would be all that's needed. Just my opinion ...

Amarantha-thanks for posting this. About, oh, seven years ago or so I was working at a group home doing 24 hours shifts and I went upstairs to get ready for bed (yeah, I got to sleep on the job..it was great!) I turned on the radio to hear this guy actually ENCOURAGING everyone to take more vitamins than what the directions said because supposedly the body new what it needed and would absorb only that much and the rest would flush out in waste. At the time I thought he might know what he's talking about (young and foolish) thankfully I never did what he suggested (I find it hard to take a multi anyway...sometimes I even fight taking a simple tylenol for a headache when I need to!) but you saying this prompted that memory and I just had to share it. Now I absolutely think the whole idea is ludicrous.

Some vitamins will indeed flush out of your system quickly (such as C; that's why C is best taken in divided doses). Others build up in your body and can be toxic. I think an example of that is A.
