Default Wave 1 cereal question

I just started the diet today and I hate eggs. I am a little confused about the cereal option. The foods list shows 1/2 cup of whole grain cereal is one serving and the breakfast portion is 1/2 of a 2 cup bowl of cereal. How much cereal should I eat? Can you suggest any other breakfast choices?

Hi. I am not an expert but I am on day 4 and I have had cereal every morning. I have lost weight and I don't feel hungry or have cravings (for the most part).

I use to be on weight watchers and have an idea of what a servings looks like. If you are going to have a cereal like fiber one honey clusters I think a little under half of the bowl is right. But if you are eating a dense cereal like grape nuts then you probably should have a smaller amount. Calories still matter. We really need to be mindful of our portions.

I hope this helps. I believe from the Sonoma 101 section that she doesn't want us to get overly concerned about these things. Just to be close.

Most of the high fiber cereals are based on a 1 cup serving.

When I have cereal, that's what' i'm eating - with 1 C 1% milk.

Some of the other cereals are only 3/4 cup but you can adjust accordingly.

Post Spoon-Size Shredded Wheat has been my saving grace. It sticks with me until lunch time...and yes, I use one cup of cereal and one cup of skim milk, and I've had no problem losing weight!

The 1/2 cup whole grains refers to cooked whole grains, like oats, quinoa, bulgar, etc. Breakfast cereal would be 1 cup of cereal and 1 cup milk. The cereal should have at least 8 grams fiber per serving. I like the Fiber One Honey Clusters cereal. It has 14 grams fiber per serving, and it really tastes good.
