I've got two now. I went and got a new one last night.
I've been thinking about this one for a while, but it was still spur of the moment to actually get it.
Mine and Keith's best couple-friends are breaking up. M was moving out last night, and J didn't want to be at home while he was, so she decided she was going to go get the tattoo she had been wanting for a while.
ANYWAY, I went with her. On the way, I was telling her that I had been thinking about this one I wanted and I just decided to do it. It was fun. And, thankfully it didn't hurt any worse than the other one I have. Yay.
I'll post a picture later, if I can get sommeone to take one of it. It's on the back of my neck, so I can't take it myself.
And, since tattoos aren't technically legal in Oklahoma until tomorrow (November 1st) it felt kinda like we were being bad for doing it. The fun kind of bad, ya know? lol
I got a tattoo to celebrate my weight loss last June 2005. I never considered myself "hip" or "cool" enough for a tattoo (I was in the CHESS club in high school for god's sake) and there was never anything that meant so much to me I would want to tattoo it forever on my skin.
Losing 70+ lbs and feeling fabulous was definitely something I wanted to celebrate forever, to remind myself how hard I worked and something to remind myself every day that losing weight is much easier than keeping weight off.
I also thought about a pheonix or a butterfly or a bluebird of happiness. I started looking into Japanese characters, I wanted something that said "transformation" but when I started talking to Japanese speakers, it wasn't that simple.
A Chinese friend turned me onto Chinese proverbs. I found a bunch I loved and I picked my favorite saying that also had the most beautiful characters. My tattoo is 4 traditional Chinese characters of an old Chinese proverb "Dripping water eats through stone." Just to remind me of the hundreds of tiny changes I made and do on a daily basis to accomplish something enormous. Even a tiny drop of water can wear away a rock.
You can see my tattoo here (it looks huge, but it was taken in extreme close-up, it's barely 3 inches long, right down the middle of my back, the top is about an inch below a normal shirt collar):
It updates daily, this proverb was added after I got mine. I love this and would probably have chosen this one if I had seen it (not that I don't love mine! this one just says it perfectly)
I definitely wanted a permanent reminder of how important this weight loss journey is, the changes I made are permanent. It basically means - don't mess this up.
Yes, they are. Until tomorrow that is. The law just passed to legalize them this past year. And, tomorrow is the date they set to make them legal. Of course, a lot of the parlors have been operating for over a year now, but the law hasn't been hard on them... thankfully they've made other things a priority instead.

Glory, your tattoo is beautiful. Mine is very small (about the size of a postage stamp) and it's the "Mc" of my last name. That's a capital "M" with a lower case "c" in superscript, with two lines under the "c". It's the begining of my last name.
I figure that someday I will no longer have that last name, so I thought this would be a neat symbol of who I am now. Does that make sense?
Anyway, it's at the top of my back, in the center... right at collar-height. It'll be easily covered, if I want it to be, but it can also show if I want it to. Oh, and it's light brown, so hopefully when it heals, it will look more like a light birthmark or a brand.
I have a picture of it that someone took for me this morning, but it looks pretty gross. LOL I mean, it's way close up and you can see all the angry unhealed-ness of it. So, I'm warning you now, it's kinda ick. lol
I have a small turtle on my hip that I got when my best friend moved away to California. Everyone in our circle of friends at the time said that we were connected at the hip and now we have matching tattoos on our hips so that even though we are miles apart we're still connected at the hip. One of the things that I want to do when I complete my weight loss is get another tattoo, but I don't know where or what yet. I'm thinking something on my tummy above my bikinni line and possibly a yin yang or a sunshine, but I don't know yet.
I love tattoos, I have 4 my first was when I was 17 (my mom took me) she also loves tattoos. Anyway my first was a butterfly on my left shoulderblade, my second a fairy on my lower back, third my name and two butterflies on my wrist and fourth another fairy with the butterfly on my left shoulderblade. I hope to get another one soon.
Your tattoo looks cool Tisha! must have felt great to get it!
I've got a red rose on the lower-right hand side of my back. I got it for my "Uncle" Tim who died of AIDS in 1993. He was a nurse and was infected through a bad needle, most likely. I couldn't get that tattoo until 1999 when I turned 18, but it was worth the wait. My second tattoo is in the middle of my shoulders and is a heart with a rose pierced through it and barbed wire wrapped around it. (Very "tattoo-traditional".)
After my weight loss, I'm planning on getting a traditional kyoto apprentice geisha on my left side (basically from my hip up to my armpit) and have her kimono turn into a full back piece with different symbols in it. It's going to have cherry blossoms at the top (for Japan), waves in the middle and hibiscus at the bottom (for Hawaii). It'll also have my name and my grandmother's family name in Kanji down the middle. It will probably cover the heart tattoo, but I want it to emphasize the rose!! The bottom of the piece will be a star (for my last name, star in Spanish) and the star will be filled with traditional Samoan tribal designs. That will be at the absolute lowest point of my back and the cherry blossoms will sweep across the top of my shoulders, with maybe a few blossoms wrapping around to my front! I CAN'T WAIT!!
Right now I have one tattoo it is a rose on my back - left shoulder to be exact - I got it the day I turned 18 because I could!!!
When I loose all my weight and am done having children I want to get another rose that is wraped around my ankle - to celebrate - hubby isn't reall big on tattoo's so we'll have to see - but I hope so!!
i've got two tattoos, and one on the way (supposedly). my first tattoo is a crescent moon, with an almost graffiti-style face, with a star hanging from it... and the second is a tribal design across my chest, which part of it was supposed to be colored in to look like leopard print, but i never got around to having it colored, and prolly never will.
my third, is supposed to be a sun on my right shoulder, to kinda match the moon. just gotta find a good, affordable tattoo place. (my others were done in west virginia, where it's apparently much cheaper to get a tattoo)
Your tattoo looks cool Tisha! must have felt great to get it!
Thanks Trixie. It did feel great to get it. Tattoos are totally addicting, IMO. As soon as one is finished, you're thinking about what you want next. lol
Kim_Star your design sounds beautiful. When you get it, you better post some pics on here!!!
I have 5! My first was the day after I turned 18 (a heart with a flower on the back of my left shoulder) , I got two after I turned 21 (I got them both the same day) one is a chain of flowers around my ankle and the other is a small star on my forearm. I got a butterfly the week before my wedding, and I got a conja symbol of Happiness on my right upper arm after my daughter was born. I am still saving money for my next one. It will be something for my son I still haven't quite decided what though (but It will have to do with his name)
I have 5 also BUT mine are very ghetto but one I have my son's name tattoo'd on my outter left ankle George in cursive and i have 3 dots on my left wrist the other's are just stupid mistakes i made **young dumb **lol
Hey all.. just noticed this posting about tattoos..when i turned 50 i got a tattoo..everyone in my family was shocked.. its like the elephant in the room.. everyone sees it but no one talks about it.. i love my tattoo to celebrate being 50.. its around my left wrist.. a purple rose with vines and leaves..im 57 now and still love it.. i wanted it where i could see it..i also wear a fine gold chain on that wrist looks neat.. my youngest dd and i went together.. she got a butterfly.. since then she has many more tats of fairies and moons.. they are beautiful..if i was younger and had a cute body id get more but am happy with my one..just wanted to share you are never to old to try a new thing or follow a dream.. im rosey from alaska
I have two and they are both hidden. I got them for me, not to show off. When people see them (well, when my ex boyfriends have seen them ) they are very shocked b/c I'm pretty conservative and low key. I never wanted a tatt that you could see if I wore skirts, sleeveless tops, halter dresses, etc. I've known too many women that have regretted them while attending a formal function or wearing their wedding dress.
Anyone have piercings? I've had my belly button pierced since I was 17.
