Default Trick-Or-Treating..

How young is too young to take a child trick-or-treating? I have a 10 month old daughter and I'd love to dress her up...but she can't eat candy and thought that might be rude. (But me and my man would love to eat it!) j/k...I can't have too much candy right now.. bad time to be dieting!

We're taking our son for the first time this year... He's 2.5. I think it's up to you really. I didn't want to take him until HE would really enjoy it KWIM?

Take her! I took my niece at 8 months. Show off your baby! Halloween's a great way to do it. She only be this little once, might as well get some cute pictures. Besides, she can have a lick or two off of a sucker as you hold it.

Take her! Do you have any other kids you can go with? When my daughter was 9 months, we went with a friend and her kid, he was a couple years older so they got most of our candy.
What are you thinking of dressing her up as? We got Morgan a headband with petals on it and had her in her stroller with a green blanket wrapped around her (gets cold here for Halloween).

with my first I dressed her up to hand out candy (she was 6 months) most kids love seeing the baby dressed up and so did the parents.

I dressed mine up and took them to the mall that was having Halloween candy for the kids when they were that little. They were so cute, got great pic's and had fun.

I think you should go for it. There are tons of little events at churches, malls etc.. You could always pick a kid with a sad looking treat bag and give him/her most of your candy at the evenings end.

Odd woman out here again. I do see people bringing infants ONLY out for trick or treating and I (internally) roll my eyes cause you know the parents will be the ones chowing down on the candy that I bought for the neighborhood kids.

Dress her up to hand out candy and take her to a few select neighbors to ooh and ahh...and if you come by my house, just ID yourself as a 3FCer and I will give you some lovely fresh fruit. Tee hee.

I'd take her if you're going with other people who also have kids who are a little older.

If it's just you guys and the baby, I agree with the person who says dress her up to hand out candy instead of going out asking for it... that is kinda rude IMO

I also think that if you ONLY have the baby under a year old, that you should show off the baby by sitting on the porch and PASSING OUT the candy...not going around to collect it. Just as many will see the baby this way, it leaves the candy for the kids who can actually eat it, and YOU will stay on your diet.

Another tip-buy a kind of candy that you really do NOT care for. If you hate coconut, for instance-pass out Mounds and Almond Joy bars. This will keep you from eating what you bought. When it gets to the last 10 minutes of trick or treating hours-pretty much give "handfuls" to the last few kids, to get rid of it so you don't have the bowl hanging around.

We handed out fruit snacks last year instead. That way we didn't scarf down 4 bags before halloween even started!
I seem to remember my family just taking the litte ones to friends and family's houses only. That way they could dress up the babies, show them off, get some pics, but without the going around to strangers... worked well for us.

I remember how embarrassing it was when my mom would make me take a bag for my brother up to peoples' doors and have to explain "this one is for me and this one is for my little brother who's too little to even climb the steps"!

My daughter is 2 1/2 this Halloween. Previous years, we've just dressed up and passed out candy. This year, we're gonna let her parade about the block and maybe trick-or-treat at a few houses. Then we'll come home and give out candy.

You can still walk around the block and show off your daughter, HappyHouseWife. You could even go up to a few doors and say trick-or treat with her and then say no thanks to the candy. I know I absolutely love seeing babies dressed up so I don't think you'd annoy anyone by doing that.

Oooh, can we have a Halloween pictures thread, please?!

I agree with Aphil. If all you have is a baby, pass out candy. Last year we missed because I'd just given birth, but the year before we dressed up both girls--the 2.5 yo and the 10 month old--and just took the older one T'o'T. This year we're dressing them all up in coordinating costumes, and the older two will T'o'T and I'll push the youngest around in the stroller so she can be a part of it and have fun, but to try to involve a baby who cannot either walk or talk in T'o'T seems kinda silly to me.

This is what we're doing with our 1 yo. I'm picking up some candy and a costume tomorrow and we're going to sit on the front porch with him on Halloween.

I think this kind of thing would be the best idea. Or like I said, when my son was a baby we took him up to a church event. That way I got to dress him up, got my pictures and got to participate in the fun of Halloween, but didn't have to embarass myself by asking for candy.
