I have been on the body for life exercise plan for 3 weeks I have not lost any weight, I gained 4 lbs.. and so far a 1/4 inch I am getting frustrated. I am not following the diet per say but eating healthy with the occasional free day. I am not sure if I lost anymore inches I don't measure until tomorrow.
Is this normal? Before I started BFL I was hiking 20km a week and had stalled, so I decided to start this hoping to jolt my body into losing weight or inches. I am still doing the hiking so I can't understand the weight gain? Everyone says it because I am building muscle but from what I understand that should not effect my weight per say but my inches.
If anyone out there could help or explain I would be so forever in your debt!
I hate to say it, but 'eating healthy with an occasional free day' would result in a weight gain for many of us, myself included. Most of us need to follow a plan or program (such as BFL or calorie counting) that restricts what we're eating in order to lose fat.
Since BFL is designed to be an integrated exercise and nutrition program, how about following the BFL nutrition along with the exercise? It's really a very easy plan to follow!
I'm 10 days into BFL and I have lost 3 lbs. I have followed the eating plan and the workouts as prescribed and it is working for me. I am never hungry and really do not miss the bad foods the way I thought I would. I look forward to my free day whenever I feel the cravings. I would really suggest doing the nutrition plan along with your workouts.
I definitely agree that BFL is designed for the exercise and nutrition to work together. I did get bigger for my first 7 weeks on BFL because I was building muscle but not losing fat as fast but then in week 8 I lost the fat and the results were amazing, however I stuck to the program TO THE LETTER and I think that is the way it works best.
I would recommend using FitDay to see where your intake is coming out. I found out the free day quickly turned into a potential landslide that could undue all my negative deficits from the whole week. So, now I do a semi-loose (not free) day on my weigh day, which is twice monthly. That seems to work better, for me. I lost about 6.2 lbs the first 2 weeks of the month, but the last 2 weeks, which end this weekend, have felt really wonky. Combinations of low energy and lethargy interspersed with cardio and workouts during and after which I feel really great!! But the rest of the time, I just want to be sleeping. So hit FitDay and see exactly how your days add up and what your free days might be doing to your overall weekly intakes. You might find the reason for the stuck scale. How's the pants-o-meter working?
I did my measurements today, 2 1/4 inches net loss. Yea! I did put on another pound but thats ok. At least I am showing some loss somewhere. Also got a nice compliment on how much better I am looking, face and the Ab area. So even though the scale is stuck I know my body is not. As for the weight part I am going to give my plan another 2 weeks and if it has not started to move I am going to switch to WW and see if that helps.
I follow the bfl plan, it works I admit is not for everyone but it gives a lot of us the balance we need. find what works for you and then do it I wish you well.
OK, just wanted to come back to this thread and give an example. I did BFL working out, with cardio upped to 30m/6dayswk, and was able to lose 8.2 lbs in September. I try to make wise eating choices counting calories, but I am not able to stick to a stringent plan of eating every 3 hours and from certain food groups. So I do what works for me in the eating dept, like buffedstuff says. I could have no doubt lost more had I followed the nutrition plan, BUT, and this is the BIG QUESTION, would I still be on the plan by month end? I had found that I need to break things up or I start to feel very lethargic and low energy, and no one can deal with that long term. I added in some fat and some treats, and was able to stick with the working out program. Maybe the eating will get better next month, it's all baby steps and doing what we have to to stay on the program.
Maybe the most enlightening point, is the pantsometer indicates that I am wearing pants that I normally did not wear until I was 15 lbs lighter than I am today. So that my friends, is the muscles talking!
