5 or 6 sweet potatoes
3 apples ( I like granny smith for this)
1/4 t nutmeg
1/4 -1/2 t cinnamon ( we like cinnamon here)
1/4 C maple syrup (could use honey or brown sugar I think)
1/4 C pecans
Peel potatoes and apples and layer in oiled (I use Pam) crock. Pour syrup over top and sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg. Low 5-6 hrs, high 3-4 hrs. I sprinkle the nuts on top last so they are crunchy but you could add them in I suppose.
I do this in a roasting pan in the oven, minus the syrup. It has more the consistency of roast potatoes, and everyone can put on their own topping of choice.
Thanks! I just googled it today and found the same recipe. I already have the stuff on my grocery list. Thanks for the idea. It sounds so yummy, and I like that it doesn't have so much sugar or butter as some of the other similar recipes.
