My husband and I both need to lose weight. We are considering joining Weight Watchers. Here is a short run-down of what we are looking at.
-I need to lose about 50 pounds, he needs to lose much more.
-I am very busy (senior in college) and don't have a lot of time to cook, he doesn't cook very well
-We have a limited budget (doesn't everyone?? LOL)
-I'm a member of Curves, so I got the exercise thing taken care of. No local gyms for guys... he isn't sure what he'll do to exercise.
-We've tried frozen meals like Lean Cuisine but (a) they are a bit expensive and (b) they suit me fine, but he is still hungry after a meal.
So we have a few obstacles to overcome. Does anyone have any advice? Is Weight Watchers a good idea? What about quick, easy, inexpensive meal ideas? Or am I just asking too much?? :P
Weight watchers is an absolutely wonderful and empowering program. That you and your husband would be doing it together would make is easy too.
I love WW (have lost 25# and kept it off for 3 years) because they teach you how to cope with almost everything, plus how to make more healthy alternatives for high calorie foods. I would suggest using the core program (if your husband is complaining about not enough food) but flex(which is what I prefer) is great too. You will lose on either, as long as you follow the program.
Please feel free to PM me with all or any questions.I do not want to overwhelm you. WW is a great program. Give it a try!
Well if you both join WW with a Limited Budget you will be paying around 20-25 dollars per week or so to weigh in. I've done WW before it failed me. but that's because I hate that keeping track thing...
Personally my DH and i have been following South Beach Diet Since May 1. I've lost about 32 pounds DH about double that.... it's NOT cheap I admit it. we eat more fruits and veggies than ever before and it's NOT cheap to buy that stuff.
Hi, I also do recommend the WW plan. They now have a monthly plan where you will pay something like $35 per month and it includes WW Etools which is the online WW tool. I will admit that I've been on and off WW for many years, but my weight loss difficulties are mine and not WW. I've definitely found that if you stick to the program, it will work for you. I love the fact that on the Flex plan there are no foods that you can't have, you just have to plan them in and count the points. I've learned that I don't have to have the entire Cinnabon, when all I really need a is a taste to keep me happy and will work within my points. Good luck with your decision.
I have been on Weight Watchers since the end of January 2006 and have lost right at 48 pounds. I love it! It's so easy and you can do the CORE plan if you don't like keeping track of the points part. It's all in how badly you want to get rid of the weight. Nothing good in life is easy. You have to work for it.
I did WW about 4 1/2 years ago and lost 30 pounds and loved it and kept it off until last year. I have gained 20 back in the past year. I tried several times to go back on it but hated that I couldn't eat certain things unless I knew the points value of it. Plus the fact because you can eat normal food, to me it was so much easier to cheat. I finally decided I needed to shock my body so I am doing the Fat Smash Diet and love it. I have just completed Phase 1 for 9 days and have lost 7.5 lbs...It helps you to really eat healthier. I mean you can do WW and keep at your points but it doesn't mean you are eating healthy...
Weight Watchers is an awsome plan. I've lost 75lb on it so far. Now I'm working with it to get the point where I'm eating when physcially hungry and stoping when I'm full. (common sence right?) but using WW as a guide and hand holder. I try to choose mostly Core foods which are more wholesome. But I don't deprive myself at all. The meetings are wonderful they really make the difference. Plus there is alot of extra support on this site from all these wonderful people.
The money you will spend will come back to you in spades. Think of the money you probably waste on junk food every week, or spending money on clothes that you don't even like.
Lots of WW recipes, quick easy and cheap. And they're way more filling than the frozen dinners. But if you like the convenience, your leader can help you with hints on bulking them up, like I always add spaghetti squash or a salad.
How lucky you are to have your husband to do this with you. Best decision you'll ever make. Good luck!
I was trhinkin about Weight Watcher again, I remember I was at my thinnest then. Once I move I am going right back to it. I remember my first week I lost 5lbs w/o any exercise, that was great. My mother joined me, it was about 3 years ago, and she lost the weight and never put it back, but I did =(. I liked it a lot and you end up eating more! Like vegetable and fruits, you are always eating! I suggest you try it, at least get the basic tools and try to keep it up by yourself if budget is the problem and you and your husband can help each other stay on track. You should have a reward for the person who loses said weight by a set date. It could be fun! I hope this helps =).

I have lost 30lbs so far on the WW plan. I gained 10 back due to a surgery and medical issues but i'm working the plan once again. I do not pay weekly or even go to meetings. I weigh myself every Wednesday and I use support boards such as this one and BCB in order to get the support I need to keep going. It's a great program and many days I feel like I have eaten so much on the points I am given daily. I never feel deprived and it's a great feeling! I do the Flex program and many people have mentioned great things about Core as well.
I too have not joined WW due to finances (out of work because of surgery). However, I bought a WW cookbook and my daughter-in-law e-mailed me with 3FC website and that has helped me to get started losing weight.
Have you considered joining TOPS? I've never been to TOPS, so I don't know what their pricing is. TOPS does have a website, with the usual before and after, where you can check if there is a chapter near you.
Good luck to you!
