OK, blister on the foot, too much cardio, what do you do?
It has a huge bubble. DH the ironman, says you pop it, leave skin covering it, bandage it and go about your business. Um, no. If that happens, I can deal with it, but I'm not poppin nothin!
i will try a bandaid, but think that will only end up popping it for me and I can't stand that thought. What I will do for cardio today is wear my keds mules (no heels) and do the elliptical. That should work. I would lose them on the treadmill, but the ellip should keep em on. What else could I do that I'm not thinking of?
At the pharmacy by the bandages there are remedies called "Blister Packs'. They will help and so will moleskin. Moleskin will help any tender spot and prevent it from becomming a blister. Great stuff. Also, it is important to NEVER wear cotton socks. Always wear socks that have a "wicking" material like coolmax.
My biggest problem with socks is that I have small feet, and often socks are too big, so I end up with a crease under the ball of my foot (ouch!) or the heel up around my ankle. But I agree - Coolmax are the way to go for working out. I wear cotton socks the rest of the time though.
I don't pop blisters, I just put a bandaid on them. I've found the Band-Aid brand sheer or waterproof bandaids stay in place the best. Usually the larger the bandaid, the more likely it will stay in place, unless the blister is on your toe or in an area where you just can't fit a large band-aid.
I have tried the Dr. Scholls blister packs but they never stay in place for me and they also look really gross after they've been on for a while. I also haven't had any luck with the generic brands or other non-Band Aid brands staying in place.
I would definitely get better shoes than the keds. I also wouldn't wear mules to do cardio; I suspect that will just give you another blister on your toes (in addition to the one on your heel). Even though they might stay on, I think they'll slide back and forth on your feet just enough to give you a blister (or you'll get foot cramps trying to hold them in place with your toes). I would just use a bandaid and wear regular, lace-up shoes. Earlier this week I had a HUGE blister on the sole of my foot from a new pair of shoes that I was trying out (that went back to store, I can assure you). I worked out for several days (stairs, elliptical, and running treadmill) with a bandaid on it and it never popped, not even the second time I wore the shoes that caused the blister in the first place.
Thanks Barbara, I will try to suffer thru with a big bandaid. It's right on my achilles though, so it's tough to avoid contact there with the back of the shoe.
Mel, very funny!! I am already in a flipping 10W Adidas (known for generous sizing) now!!! I've never had a problem with these shoes before, have worn them for 3 months. If you tell me my feet are growing - just don't go there! I will blame it on these socks. They might be all cotton, not sure. Will have to get some cool max. These were peds, which I think is just a cheaper brand, right?
The mules on the elliptical didn't go beyond a few minutes. I was low energy today and just couldn't get into it. Thanks everyone!!
