Default LWL #268 August 14 - 20

Is everyone onvacation? I am! Not really vacation, but a long overdue visit with dd. Not lifting today or tomorrow (other than restocking her apartment with food and buying textbooks), and eatings is spotty, but I'm trying to be reasonable! Hope everyone had a good weekend

I'm here I went hiking this weekend, twice! Once on the Potomac and then again another time at a place called Sugarloaf mountain. My legs are a bit sore today. I also saw the coolest little green snake when I was hiking along the Potomac. He blended in so well, that I almost stepped on him. I always enjoy finding various animals and insects on my hikes.

Hi Mel, Hi Nelie, Hi LWL,

I'm here! Tonight power class again with my friend. I sure hope they will not spring that young commando on us again. If we spot him, we'll switch course & go to the machines room.

Apart from that unfortunately my scales have gone UP again!!! This must be because with the kids gone I eat very irregularly, and I guess that makes me overeat. Also i have a tendency for comfort foods. Sigh... Fortunately they will be back at the end of this week.

Have a great day all,
Rabbit

I’m here. Kind of feeling a little stir crazy though. I hate commuting. Office work really doesn’t agree with me, problem is I have yet to figure out anything I would be better suited for. Also I’ve got the moving bug creeping up on me again. It seems like after a couple of years living in one place working at the same job I feel the need to run away and start they cycle all over again somewhere else. I know, I’m insane.

Mel – I was always jealous of my college friends with parents that would visit and buy food. Good on you. Rest assured your daughter is not living on ramen noodles and frozen pizza. Not that I would know anything about that.

nelie – sounds like you had some lovely weekend hikes. Looking for wildlife is one of my favorite parts of hiking too.

I went hiking at Runyon Canyon with the dog and bf on Saturday, it was considerable cooler than the last time we did the hike so that was nice.

Went to relaxation yoga on Sunday and finally got the bf to come along. Alas, he didn’t enjoy it and I doubt he will be going back. At least he was open enough to try it once.

I went to int. yoga yesterday, we did a lot of lunges, triangles and shoulder stands, isometric stuff. Really feeling it in my quads today!

I’m off for elliptical hamster cardio and UB lifting tonight. Hope everyone is having a good week!

I'm back, and it sure seems like I was gone more than 10 days! Yikes, I'm running to catch up. Eating was pretty good, lots of fresh fruit at any rate. I came back to a week's worth of inventory starting yesterday, and a whole day - well, 10-4 - of meetings today. Grrrr. Plus we have to have the building ready to have the carpets cleaned on Friday. It's so annoying to everyone to close a library that we try to get everything possible done at once. I swear if I could have found a painter, the lobby would be painted this week too. It'll all be good if I can make it through this week. Then I only have grant reports to finish by Sept 1.

But, right now it's 10:15, and I need to be in bed. TTYL.

I'm back from Marrakech! It was WONDERFUL! I shouldda stayed there!

Eating a little hokey but I'm back with a bit of a dodgy tummy which is keeping me away from anything remotely unhealthy! I'm also staying away from the scales and generally chilling out! Last night was kickboxing training, lots of low sweeps - good for the calves judging by the pain this morning! Lunch is a quick run to stock up on Hummus and some carrot sticks! And yes I will be running there! Then after work I plan to hit the gym and do some leg weights and perhaps some light arm thingies. I'm going to 2 classes, Body Conditioning and Sweatbox. I'm looking forward to sweatbox - inspiration comes in all forms

Oh and I must practise the sweepy things in the gym - cue lots of strange looks.

Sweatbox was sweaty, but no boxing I was well dissapointed! HUFF!

I did enjoy my extreme exercise. I feel like I didn't eat enough yesterday though - about 1500kcals and 3 hours moderate to intense exercise today I will try and eat more - probably 3 hours of kickboxing tonight

Morning all! Quiet thread. Not much to report. Have been really good about sticking to my lifting schedule...this a.m. did chest, shoulders and bis, combo weights and bands. Put an ad in Freecycle to see if I could pick up some more weights for my proposed personal training business...am going to pick up some tonight that someone is willing to give away. I decided to leave the gym, and focus on just a few personal clients until I retire from my day job. Too frustrating trying to get clients through the gym, and trying to work within their system. They're so screwed up that I'm constantly getting kicked out of the computer system....if I don't have a client for a week, I disappear...and then it takes weeks if not months to get back in...meanwhile my work hours are not registering and I'm not getting paid. Totally frustrating.

This weekend am going for Arthritis Organizational personal training certification...am looking forward to that...hope they can get me some clients.

Have a good week all!

Hi LWL,

Artmaker - good for you to stick to your plans! And good luck with the arthritis training certificate.

Frus - I am exhausted just reading your post. Glad Marrakech was so good.

I am a bit ill these days, I caught a cold. I have done too much trying to get the house rid of vestigial remains of XH and cleaning and job and preparing for DDs birthday saturday. I did not eat much for the past 2 days, managed half a BLT sandwich a work this morning. I'm off to bed now, work is finished for this week, and I hope to recover sufficiently to get everything in order for the return of the kids & DDs birthday on saturday.

have a great day all,
Rabbit

2Fru – you are like the energizer bunny! Have fun at kickboxing. Glad you had a good holiday in Marrakech.

Susan – Sounds like a really frustrating situation with your gym, but that’s great that you’re taking matters into your own hands. I love freecycle.

Rabbit – You’ve got a full plate. Hope you feel better soon and take care of yourself!

My quads are still a bit twingy since Monday’s yoga class. Seems like every time I give my quads a good working over they are sore for days, I have no idea why. All my other muscles seem to recover much more quickly. I’m headed to spinning tonight, so I can look forward to a sore bum for the next couple of days

I think I have officially lost a pound! Scale has evened out and holding steady for a couple of days, I just hope I don’t screw it up over the weekend like I tend to.

Cheers all.

Default I'm back too

Well, Scotland and Spain were marvelous, and we got rerouted around Heathrow on Saturday so we didn't even get caught up in that. We got home a half hour after the originally scheduled time.

We had a great time, though not as much activity as I would have thought. Lots of visiting in Oban, Scotland and then the traveling in the Shetlands and Orkneys didn't seem that much work.

Spain was sitting on the beach, how amazing is going to a clothing optional beach for motivation.

Came home up of course on the scale, but am really hitting the protein, dropping the "whites" and plan to get back to the workouts this weekend.

I'll catch up with all tomorrow, off to avoid the cake at a going away party - just had a hard boiled egg to fill up.

Hi LWL,

Just stopped by in a rest break from house cleaning. It's amazing how many spiders can accumulate in a single home.

Today the kids come home !!!

Have a great day all,

Hello to you all the lifters. I have been dabbling with WT for a few months now; researching and experimenting. Now it is time to get focus and have a serious schedule to stick to.

I do have a quick question regarding one of the exercises that I did on Wednesday; it's a Back Delt Fly, or similar. Where your torso is parallel to floor and you start the weights at your ankles and then using the small muscles in your upper back, you lift your arms out squeezing your shoulder blades together. It was recommended to use 1-2# weights, but the smallest weight I have is 3#. I noticed some muscle ache in the upper back around the blades yesterday morning, but after I moved around during the day it went away. Should I go to lighter weights or just decrease reps/sets? I really don't want to invest in lighter weights if I will be growing out of shortly. Any advice?

I also don't want to have an injury particularly to the rotor cuff that will put me out for awhile.
