starting over

  • hello! im new here...
my name's Manda and I am 19 years old, and live in southren kentucky.
i used to wieght 260lbs and i lost it all and got to 180. suprisingly i lost it very easily. after i lost the first 30lbs moving around got lots easier and i realized that i actually liked to walk, jogg, etc.
well i have been messing up since i moved in with my boyfreind. i have been living with him for about a year and a half now and i have not been on a diet at all.
i just got on the scale today and realized i was 198lbs. after a year and half of eating ANYTHING i want i dont guess this is too bad just gaining about 20lbs. but i am ready to start again. my goal weight is, and always has been 160lbs. so i have about 40lbs to go.
sweets are my main problem. i LOVE sweets, and i betcha if i stop with the sweets and exercise more i could lose it as easily as i did the first time. but i have horrible craveings for sweets.
  • Hi, Manda, and welcome! Good for you for wanting to get back on track!

As for sweets, I have found that once I get started and get all that out of my system, I don't really crave the sweets any longer. It does take some commitment to GET to that point though LOL.
  • Hey Manda,

Does the boyfriend eat a lot of sweets? If so, does it seem like you need to eat them too because you're together?

How come you stopped watching what you ate when you moved in with him? You don't have to answer, it's just something to think about.

You are at a point where you CAN lose that weight, and it won't take you that long. Yes, you'll probably have to stop with the sugary stuff for awhile, and eat other things besides dessert-type foods. Those are the worst!

Please find yourself a program you can stick with for awhile. You're at a good point right now for losing it. It only gets harder later on--believe me!

    Good luck to you!!!

    Jay
  • no, they BF doesnt have much of a sweet tooth actually. theres just food in the house for one! before i moved in with him me and my family were very poor and ate tuna fish and baked potaotes nearly every day (i was on a lowfat diet anyway, salads and school, etc). we ate what we could offord, and i moved in with him and there is all sorts of food around. i dont have to worry about eating it all because we can actually offord to get some more!
why i got of my diet is crazy... i went and got weighted at the health department. i never keep a scale at home so i was unaware that i lost over 60lbs. well after i found out i decided to reward myself a week of eating what i wanted.
and that week never ended. so i know to never do that to myself again.

i have been living off sweets for some reason. expescailly over these last three months i have been extremely picky with foods and would rather just go hungry if i dont have two things
    sweets... or FRENCH FRIES!!!!

i stared my diet last night and already messed up. i had a couple of slices of mexican pizza! i was just going to taste a bite and not eat a slice... well that didnt work. i should had known from past dieting to not even take a bite!
  • also me working at pizza hut for a year and a half didnt help any. food was free, i ate pizza...
    every single day i worked!

i guess i am lucky to only gain not even 20lbs over a year and a half of this heh?
  • Couple things I wanted to point out:

    1. If your bf doesn't really have a sweet tooth like you then just keep those foods out of the house. Just don't buy them. If you are just dying for something sweet then you have to go to the store to get it.

    2. The "diet" mentality. Although I have not experienced this myself I have read many many stories of others who have lost weight by going "on a diet" only to gain back all the weight. When you think of yourself as going on a diet it is kind of implied that when you get to your goal weight the diet will be over. Then you would resume eating the same way that made you overweight in the first place and you would, in turn, become overweight again. Think of what your doing as a lifestyle change and make sure that you can eat this way for the rest of your life.

Hopefully someone will chime in and say it better than I can

    3. Kind of OT but, I worked at pizza hut too! For like 4 years I delivered for them and I think I actually lost weight working there. I can't be sure as I wasn't weighing myself at all but I remember clothes becoming looser. Weird huh?

    4. Almost forgot this one, slip-ups happen, don't let them be an excuse to "start tomorrow instead" or lead to a binge.
  • we dont keep sweets in the house... however the store is just RIGHT next door. i have walked there in my pj's at three in the morning (open 4/7) and got sweets all the time. i almost do it in my sleep. i wake up alot through out the night, and thats when my sweet tooth is at its worse. and thats when i go to the store.

i need to get motivated! today i messed up with a spicy chicken sandwich from mc donalds, AND a half lbs of fried barbeque chicken chunks!!!
i am so frusterated right now!!! but on the positive side, i ate slowly today. i usually shove it in my mouth! and i had one whole lb of those chicken chunks, i usually eat the whole lb, but i split it with the BF. he was extremely suprised to see me actually SHARE food with him.
so i guess not all is lost?

i have to go to the store tonight sometime to get some veggies for the rabbits (and me to snack on) and if i resist a butterfinger (my fav. candy bar) then i wont feel so hard on myself...
after i go to the store i will post and tell if i got one or not.
instead of saying "aww i cant HAVE that!!"
i am going to say "eww i dont WANT that, its full of fat!"
