Default LWL # 263 July 10 - 16

Good Morning LWL!
Anybody out there or is everyone on vacation this week?
I'm about to head to the gym to do chest and cardio, and train. My legs are pleasantly sore after doing legs on Saturday and a 20 mile bike ride on Sunday Eats have been clean (ish), scale is holding.

Back later,
Mel

I have to work more on this summer schedule. Did my walk around the reservoir, knocking 10 minutes off of my time since the last time I timed myself, but got home and got involved with laundry, DD and splash camp (think pool and sprinklers all of the time) and DH who is still sick so of course, can't do anything but get himself off to work.

Forgot all about my planned yoga workout.

Scale still up but of course I can trace that to the food I put into my mouth.

Saw my sister this weekend in her workout clothes, she is losing weight and looking good. She was off to the reservoir with the girls in the stroller - so she is pushing and jogging she says. Way to go sis.

MEL - Hope the poison ivy clears up for good and your son has a clear rest of the summer.

Piles on my desk and lots of trip planning to finish.

I'm here. It's a cloudy Monday after a surprisingly nice Sunday - weather that is, started off cloudy but turned sunny and warm shortly before noon. Nice too, because the next door neighbors had a huge BBQ - which I went to - and too many people to be indoors. Lots kept occupied by badminton, though their little Cairn terrier keeping stealing the birdie. Food wasn't ideal, but I did manage to make it the only thing I ate all day except for some cottage cheese and coffee for breakfast.

DH left yesterday afternoon to go fishing for 3 days. Hopefully he'll come home with enough salmon to keep us for the winter. It's a subsistence dipnet fishery, so you must be a resident, and you can get 25 for the fisherman, plus 10 more for each member of the household. We couldn't possibly use 35 10-12 lb salmon unless we ate it for every meal! But hopefully he'll get "enough."

3 more weeks to this 12 week challenge - anyone else still doing it? My bike lost about 1/3 of its gears, and is in the shop getting a new pod (whatever that is) so I'm back to other forms of cardio. I had planned to get up and walk/run outdoors around home this morning, but the cats had me up several times, and when the alarm went off, I shut it off - oops! Guess I'll be out there tonight, or since they're predicting rain, at the gym. Need to run by the grocery too. They have boneless/skinless chicken breasts for $1.39/lb. Unheard of here! Usually $2.99 is a good price.

PAT - Shamed to say I have not kept up on the BFL 12 week challange, looking back at it and reading that there are three weeks left, and I really am not happy about it. I hope you get all your gears back. And I for one can eat salmon every day, in fact while in Scotland I plan to to have it at least once a day, when we were there 10 years ago, I came pretty close. Just love seafood.

Should do yoga when I get home tonight and wondering if I can get DH to vaccuum before I get home, the dog hair while doing downward facing dog is not a pretty picture.

Hi all. I’m here on this Monday too, in the office as usual after a glorious weekend.

I am so jealous of all you bike riders. I want a bike so badly, but spending the $$$ and my fear of it being stolen (a few of my friends have been so unfortunate) have kept me from seriously considering getting one. Spinning at the gym is as close as I get.

I went to the beach on Saturday for most of the afternoon. Those waves were fierce, best boogie boarding of the season so far, and the water seems warmer than it did last week if that’s possible. I saw dolphins off shore for the first time! It was amazing.

Sunday I did a 30 min UBWO and went to relaxation yoga at the Y for the first time in a long time. I’ve been doing the more physically challenging Monday yoga classes lately. Instructor said I looked great and I must be working out. Maybe the tan I’ve been working on has something to do with it, but in these days of scale stagnation I need all the encouragement I can get. It’s going on three months with this here plateau. My body seems to really like 170 for some reason.

Food has been ok, where I haven’t been eating clean I’ve at least been controlling my portion sizes. I found fresh cherries on sale for $1.99/lb yesterday, made me super happy! I’ve probably eaten my weight in cherries over the last week, I keep buying them left and right as I find them on sale for cheaper in different places. I best enjoy it while it lasts, they’ll be up to $6.99/lb again before summer is over.

My good friend is having a potluck tonight in celebration of her conversion ceremony. Since her mom came to town for the event the theme is “foods that mom makes”. I’m bring my own version of my mom’s hamburger hotdish, with Barilla plus pasta and boca veggie ground burger and lots of fresh herbs so it’s a little healthier than the beef and cheese laden original.

Hope ya’ll are having a good start to your week!

I'm here too. Luckily I got in my 45 mins on the treadmill early this morning because later in the day, I left part of my heel on the porch steps outside. Amazingly no blood (I guess our heels are made tough for this reason), but I tore off a good triangle of skin and it's all blue and black now. Not sure when I will get sock and shoes on again and be able to get good walking speed on the treadmill. Won't keep me from getting in my lbwo tonite though!! yah man.

I am still kinda doing the 12 week challenge, except I pushed the start off til June, then really didn't get serious until starting my spa weeks on 6/24. So after 2 weeks, the weight tally is, gained 1 lb. Probably not bad considering my improved hydration levels and improved muscle tone. I think my body looks a little better already in the mirror & I know I sure feel a heck of a lot better. Getting up and down the stairs better too, realized I was almost sprinting up the stairs last night, and that has to totally be due to the lbwo's.

Now have to get more serious watching the intake and better food choices and maybe by the 15th I'll see a drop. I know I should do fitday, but don't have the patience to do the setup.

Ouch! Fran, that sounds terrible! Good thing it's summer and you don't need to put on shoes for a while- or is that how it happened?

Shan- You may be jealous of being able to keep a bike, but I'd trade it for your beach access! It's a very heavy traffic 2-3 hour drive to the shore for me, so we haven't gone in years. It actually seems easier to fly to Jamaica or Mexico than to drive to New Jersey or Delaware

Pat- I could easily eat those 25 salmon :munch: Can you send some on dry ice? and buy some extra chicken while you are at it! $1.99 is the great sale price here.

Hi Liza

My workout didn't go as planned. Turns out that the bike riding was harder on my shoulders and elbows than on my legs I did one set of chest presses and it hurt too much to continue. So I just did lots of cardio today, and hopefully I can lift by tomorrow. Getting old stinks.

I am here but going through a lurker phase. I've been going to the gymn, walking and running with the Boy on his bike. He can almost ride on his own now.

That milking stool is a good one, Mel. Watch your cardio, weights and nutrition and the rest takes care of itself. I usually add 'sleep' but I'm getting enough at present.

Last day of term for the Boy today. None of us can wait!!

Edit: which island are you going to, Sugar Cube?

Another great day, no rain, yet. Got to the reservoir, and knocked a minute off of my time around. Not much but already have gotten down 10 minutes. Did the upper body workout, the delts as outlined by Brant-Peckam in the August Oxygen Mag. I felt them then, I feel them now, and I am sure that tomorrow will be a leg day.

Moving ahead on the Scotland trip. Called this morning to find out that this marvelous train connection that I found online at the Scotrail website, doesn't exist. Not sure why not but can't book online because of DD and can't book by phone because it isn't there. I do have to say that when I ran the individual parts of the trip, I can't find all the bits. So if I can't go through, I'll go around. Ferries are all booked though, not sure how I did this 10 years ago - pre-internet??? Actually I do know, we are doing a lot more this time, more moving around and more stops because I am able to plan it out much better.

Food is spot on, finished up some FF cottage cheese, still using the canned pineapple for the taste factor but less and less. Also, moving outside the envelope for breakfast, had scrambled one whole egg, some whites, one slice of canadian bacon chopped up and stuffed all into a half of a WW pita. quick and easy and good to go. Really getting into the whole grains in the am. (Scotland is full of oatmeal I hear).

Scale still not moving but hey, I am.

SHAN - Ever consider getting a less than desireable bike?? I have one that is nice enough, but also doesn't have a high "evaporation" factor. I used it a lot for transporting DD to and fro from daycare. Not so much anymore, I work and live on opposites of a major traffic square and no sensible way to get through or around. Your "hamburger hotdish" sounds delish. I do believe I have most of those ingrediants at home.

HR - I was so hoping you were describing a nice pair of Prada pumps when you typed about your heel. I highly recommend the FitDay, just the free one is an eyeopener and once the set up is done, you do breeze through. The reports and pie charts are great visuals for me and I can make immediate adjustments and even decide when I am going to stay the course and on my food plan.

RE: BFL challange, saw my backside in a mirror this morning, all I can say is at least I can see the WHOLE thing in the mirror, doing that butt work while walking those hills.

Doesn't Nellie get back soon from Canada??

MEL - Relax those shoulders, the bike can do that over the long hard workouts.

SILVER - We start out in Liung with good friends of mine from a long time ago, then we are heading to Stromness in the Orkneys, our favorite place for some reason. From Kirkwall, we take the ferry to Lerwick, and we are staying there about 6 days at this point. While based in Lerwick we plan to hop around as much as possible on day trips to other nearby islands. Any free advice??? Always welcome.

Off to plod some more at the office, DH called and wants to head up to the lake this weekend with his mom, not too much of a problem, just have to figure out when I am going to get organized to pack and get my nails done - priorities.

hrbabe – That sounds so painful! I’m a real wimp when it comes to stuff like that, I’d be giving myself some time off my feet, but good for you for going on with the LBWO despite it all.

It is really nice to be just a couple miles from the shore. I still get ornery sometimes about having moved those few miles inland when the beach used to be just steps from my door, but I just have to remember that lots of people don’t get to the ocean much at all. Heck, I was one of them for most of my life! You can get spoiled so quickly here in SoCal.

I remember my wrists used to get quite sore from bumpy trail rides in my mountain biking days, I wonder if those front end shocks they have on a lot of bikes nowadays do any good? Unfortunately you don’t need to have that attractive of a bike to get it ripped off around here, most of the bikes I’ve heard about going missing were older and/or in the $100 range and usually secured with a U-lock. I’ve seen quite a few abandoned locked up bike frames stripped of the wheels, seats, whatever isn’t nailed down. It’s sad. Last time I had a bike was in college, it was an older 10-speed that I paid maybe $50 or $60 bucks for, and it was stolen while I was at work one night. It was locked up but someone went to the trouble of sawing through the metal bike stand bars to steal my crappy bike.

The party last night was just lovely, and “hamburger” hotdish was a big hit, even the omnivores loved it. I got to see a lot of people that I haven’t seen in a few months, including as acquaintance that’s due to give birth in a couple weeks. She’s one of those skinny pregnant ladies, tall and lanky but looks like she has a basketball shoved under her shirt, so cute!

I have to go shopping tonight for something to wear to a wedding on Sunday, but maybe I’ll find time to head to the gym for some quick cardio on the elliptical or do some work on the stability ball at home, we’ll see.

Have a good day all!

SHAN - too bad about the bike, sounds more serious than the college town I live in. Went to a baby shower this weekend, the mom to be due in about three weeks is another one with a basketball under her shirt. Very jealous is all I can say.

I'm here too! I've been sick and eating. Just a little fluey bug thing. Nearly better now, but bugs are on my chest now so taking today off from the gym. Scales are up, no surprise there - had about 3 days of junk-grazing I've come out the other side quite determined to get the weight off and get into that dress if it's the LAST THING I DO! It's amazing what happens when you let your guard down for a week or two - and how long it takes to get back into the swing of things.

Anyway, looking forward to getting these extra love handles off and being as fit as a flea again Next lifting scheduled for Friday!

Hi all.

The only exercise I've been doing lately is eating! I got back from San Diego which was a lot of fun but also a lot of food and little exercise. I did make an effort to do some walking but mostly it was visiting family and friends. I was up a couple lbs but it looks like those were mostly water retention or something.

I went shopping with my mom and bought a wedding dress. The dress was on a sale rack in the bridal shop and was a size 22. I tried it on and it fit perfectly. My mom suggested I get a dress one size smaller so that I'd have to lose weight to fit in it, but I'm not that crazy

Anyway, hope everyone is doing well. I'm just trying to get back to things.

Nelie, great that you found a dress so quickly. I remember my daughter took weeks before she found one she really liked.

HR babe, how's that heel?

Fru, hope you feel better quickly.

Mel, have you ever posted your before and after pictures and story other than that short thread you posted with the doctored up picture? It would be interesting to hear your story.

Well, Yesterday I took about a mile walk and did a bunch of squats, today I did 15 minutes on the treadmill and some upper body, moderate weights. It's really good to be able to exercise again. Trouble is, the one aftereffect of the stroke is vertigo, and my balance is unsteady at times, so I feel uncomfortable without holding on on the treadmill. or having a wall near by. I hope this goes away.

I'm going back to doing PT tonight...luckily with someone with arthritis so it won't be very strenuous. I have a tendency to overdo, so I need to get back into things slowly. Postponed my certification exam till November as it's hard for me to read for any period of time without getting a little dizzy.

But, hey! I'm lucky I have no other aftereffects...I am recovered and ready to move on with my life, dizzy or no. Nothing like a bad scare to make you appreciate what you've got.

Hope everyone is having a good day.
