Ugh- Slept through my alarm this morning so no cardio got done. I had a sleepless, slothful weekend which wasn't even all that much fun. My body is just too old for no sleep.
I'm gulping down coffee #2, then will head to the gym for a few clients and leg day. Bunch of errands, dentist appointment for ds, etc.
Hullo, all! Back again after last week's half-term holiday. We did lots of biking, skipping, work on the pond and other lovely things. A good time was had by all.
Gymn this morning but only did cardio. Didn't have it in me to do weights and I've crocked my knee again so it needs a bit of love, I think.
At work, hoping to hear about a big contract ... Keep your fingers crossed for me, please!
Have a good day, everyone. (Mel: no sleep, horrible. Be kind to yourself.)
Back at my old gym, love that place I have decided. Also while I was away, new cardio equipment, but most of all I am back to my racks, racks and racks of barbells, and dumbbells, 3 pounds up to Lots of heavy stuff. Also, it is brighter for some reason even though there is only the front door with natural light. Anyway, Jane at the front desk was happy to see me.
Interval cardio on the new treadmill, very nice for 30 minutes, glad I could stick it, and 30 minutes of UBWO, including a new tricep move up and over. We shall see tomorrow.
Forgot my cottage cheese, well really did I forget or is it pushed to the back of the fridge? I think I shall open a can of pineapple or snip some fresh chives and face the curds.
NELLIE - You are looking good, and those temperatures do suck especially for those who are not morning people. Good luck on facing the heat, I can just hear DH's uncle in Arizonia, it is a dry heat, like that is a reason to move there, just because the rest of the family did. Blah.
Checking out the Farmer's Market at lunch time, some things are starting to come in and I am playing with the idea of a tomato plant on my window sill. I will be gone for 3 weeks though and the last plant, a mini rose was killed off by a coworker. Not intentional but still sad.
PAT - re pant sizes, I found out from one store that even the same brand and style # can mean that the pants were sewn in a different factory, hence one pair fits another doesn't.
I finished reading BFL for women this weekend, then I started re-reading BFL (it has been a couple years). I think the differences in the books are interesting, like BFL for women says "get 30 minutes of cardio in" while BFL says "do 20 minutes but do it this way". Overall, I think BFL for women is decent, especially explaining the different cycles in life. I also think it is really meant to motivate women to make exercise a daily routine and to watch their portions. I'm actually kind of scared, I think I'm going to follow the plan and have it not work as my efforts since the beginning of the year haven't gotten me very far. The books have remotivated me though and here is what I'm going to do:
1) Keep a journal - this was started yesterday, includes goals, workout and food. I'm notoriously bad when it comes to journaling but I think it is something I need to try to do.
2) Workouts as described in BFL - I did my first UBWO yesterday with my BF. I remembered why I didn't like the BFL for method in that when doing it in a gym (unless you are using dumbbells), it is hard to switch to just any machine. My BF helped me solve that problem by doing his first 4 sets on 1 machine, i did my first 4 sets on another machine, both in the same muscle group, then we switched quickly for the last set. Today, I'm a little sore and it was a good, quick workout. I'm willing to workout this way for a while at least and see where it gets me.
3) Food - I realized that this has been my real weakness for the past year or so. I didn't have a plan, but I just did what I knew which was eat throughout the day and pack mostly healthy things. I had no plan as to when I'd eat or to make sure my eating was balanced. I also started monitoring my portions but probably not enough. I haven't re-read the BFL eating section yet, but I did look through Eating for Life and between BFL for women and EFL, I have a good idea of what I need to do. I packed my lunch this morning and it did scare me. Usually my lunch box is stuffed with snacks and what not. Today, it has 1 balanced lunch entree, and 3 balanced snacks. I also have a plan as when I need to eat.
Overall, I guess I never realized how scared of my food cravings I have become. I am always scared of giving into temptation and scared of running out of healthy food items when I'm at work. I hope putting myself back into control will straighten me out.
Anyway, beyond that. I did a great hike saturday. It was 3.8 miles and including a change in elevation over 700 ft. It is the most I have done with change in elevation. The first part of the hike included a hike to the summit of a mountain (300 in elevation up), which wasn't bad, but then the hike circled the mountain after that. At the last mile, we had an incline all the way back to the car. My legs were hurting. It was a good hike though and had some great views
I was also very excited about the hike because it has been hot here and the place we did the hike (shenandoah National park in Virginia) was 20 degrees cooler than our place. It is probably where we will be hiking for the summer.
Good morning all, just averting a minor mess, found the documents 1-25 under a pile of notebooks on someone's desk. The person has no idea how it got there?? Must be gremlins.
Per usual when I get to the gym first thing on a Monday, the week starts to fall into place no matter the scheduled. Lower Body today, and tried a new piece of equipment, one of the presses, a little clunky for me as I don't have a very smooth action on the release. Also saw the torso twist, a machine that got the boo face here a while ago. It looks pretty though.
Did 30 minutes of cardio intervals on the new ellilptical, it really felt like a workout, liked it very much, have to rachet it down on level though as I was out of the fat burning zone.
Up on the scale again, but not going to dwell on it, always happens when I am back at the weights.
The office component took a 2 hour tour of the restoration work being done at the reservoir, it was great even with the bugs, really interesting to see all the work being done ot restore the habitate while making the resource work for as many people as possible. On the weekends, it is hard to imagine so many people use it now. The dog walkers, joggers, walkers, runners, running club, kids learning to ride bikes as well as being the city water supply and buffer to the city golf course. Makes me appreciate where I live and work even more, even when I get the crackpot phone calls.
Very very bad day today, a continuous stream of bad luck. Somehow somewhere a very big bad luck is probabely being diverted from myself, with all this minor bad luck as a result. I'll not bore you with the details. Suffice it to say that sofar I have not actually demolished anything yet, nor caused wounded, and that I consider myself lucky at that.
The only thing left to do for today is drive my son & his friend to field hockey training, very carefully, and then I'll crawl into bed and try some meditation. And I'll stroke my good luck god statue for good measure.
Liza, where are you located? Which resovoir? When we lived in Seattle, I used to run a 1/3 mile track around a local resovoir (how do you spell that?). It was in a nice little neighborhood park and very enjoyable. THe last time we were back there though, it had been filled in and condos were being built on the land.
Last night I did a 3 mile bike ride for a warm-up and then the power pump class. Did enough squats/lunges to make my legs feel like noodles, and my arms were quivering when I was done with them. Nicely sore today. THat'll hold me til Thursday. A longer bike ride tonight. Sunday DH put a speedometer thingy on my bike so I know how far, how fast and how long. He also mounted a water bottle holder for me. Nice to be taken care of!
Poor guy had a colonoscopy yesterday. When I went to pick him up, he was still in recovery and obviously still doped up. He was yacking on about the stangest things and totally forgot anything anyone told him. The most worrying thing though is that he weighs only 133 His ideal weight is 140-145, so I guess I'll be feeding him up some!
Work is getting frantic. THe library is closed Th-Sat as our town has it's annual Colony Days celebration (We were a gov't sponsored agricultural colony during the depression) and there will be carnival rides set up in our parking lot. During that time though we're installing new computer software to manage out public internet access computers, plus getting things set up and decorated for our summer reading program which starts next week. Last year we had over 600 kids registered, and expect more this year. Though we're a small town (6K, with a service population about 18K), this area of Alaska has grown 18% in the last 4 years, and is in the top 10 fast-growing places in the western US, if not the country. It's just amazing to watch the new housing and business go up. The Wal-Mart nearest to here (about 12 miles) is upgrading to a superstore, and there is a new only planned for next year right in our town, also supposed to be a superstore. (Not that I'm excited about this, quite the contrary. Just goes to show how fast things are growing.)
Enough, I didn't mean to write a book. Have a great day everyone, it's a warm and sunny one here.
RABBIT - I am visualizing clear thoughts for you, smooth roads and good field hockey pointers for DS.
PAT - I live in Cambridge Mass, our reservoir is the city water supply, we are very forward thinking and own our own water supply which is highly unusual. While it only takes me 45 minutes to briskly walk the reservoir, it is a real resource and treat to have it in a city that is or was the 6th most densely populated city in the US.
Like PAT - my triceps are nicely sore this afternoon, now I am wondering which exercise I did brought this on as I find the triceps really hard to isolate. Whatever, just go with the whole thing right?
Bought DH a bike computer for his bike for Father's Day, he is such a gadget fiend.
Ah, not one I know. I grew up in Braintree, and it seems every little town on the South Shore has (or had) it's own reservoir. So, Cambridge doesn't get its water from Quabbin?
Slow afternoon after a busy busy morning. THe wind has picked up but I'm still planning on a bike ride after work.
PAT - hope you got your bike ride after work. Cambridge has owned their own water supply for a long time, it is out near Waltham, so we are not at the total mercy of the Mass Water Resource Board. We are tied into the sewer system but have utilized Federal money to seperate out the storm water from the sewage so we pay a lower rate, can you tell I am a municipal employee?? In any case, the MWRA keeps trying to find ways for us to pay higher rates. Because we run our own water and have seperate sewers, and Harvard University owns the Steam generating plant, the businesses like to locate in Cambridge because the supply and costs are steady and predicable. Keeps my property taxes low.
On a more personal note, I worked until about 11 pm last night so I slept in this morning. Another meeting tonight, so I am seeing cardio in my future tomorrow morning.
Found some great turkey breast at the deli, just plain and flavorful on its own and seems to not be pumped full of stuff. Also found some ginger and sesame tofu, which I need to keep at arms length but it is so good.
It's STUPIDLY hot here I'm not a one for the heat - it reminds me of being fat! All the worst fat memories are beach and/or heat related!!! Staying in my long trousers and BIG t-shirt on the BEACH when EVERYONE else with me was in their tiny little bikinis parading round. Trying to keep cool walking round NYC stuffing my face with doughnuts and taking breaks in dunkin donuts just for the aircon! Thread... lost....
Oh yes, it's hot! But at least it's cool in the gym! In fact I always get the shivers until I warm up!!! Did some quick back and bis yesterday lunch, am off to do legs tonight - the L-glutamine will have its work cut out for it tomorrow, it's double kickboxing! After leg day! I figured best to do legs today rather than risk having them hurting for my first 10k race on Sunday! I think it's going to be approx 30C - dunno what that is in old money, sorry!
I don't know if I'm gaining muscle or I'm just bloated, but since I started throwing round heavier weights I've pilled on about 7lbs or more. I am NOT a happy bunny! I have a wedding dress to fit into
Liza that tofu sounds delish post me some will ya??
Fru, trousers and a big shirt at the beach!? I am in love with the 2 piece bathing suit lately, as long as the top piece covers the tummy I tried skirted bathing suits but I don't like that the skirt floats up when you swim. I'm not ashamed Of course you won't see me in a bikini.
It was stupidly hot here last week but it has cooled down some.
Speaking of tofu recipes, if anyone has some let me know. I have tofu but not sure how I should cook it. I also love meat so it keeps getting put off
Last night, I did my leg and ab workout. It was my first BFL style leg workout so I didn't use as much weight as I should've. Next time I know. Amazingly, my arms are still sore from Sunday. Tonight will be the first BFL style cardio workout.
I'm also down a lb but TOM is winding down so that is probably why
Extremely bad day has been replaced by a slightly bettter day. My ex has just moved out some more boxes of junk, AND some roof carriers for the car he had when my son was born (only 14 years ago, why throw such a treasure out???) This, incredibly, makes my day a much better one. Again, did not hit anything or anyone today. i am now listening to soothing music & sipping a glass of white wine.
Tomorrow will be a better day.
Fru...How come you have 30 C ????? You are in LONDON! In my imagination this is cold and rainy, always. Anyway, weather here is OK. Sun in between the showers, and in the 20 Cs.
Liza, I love Cambridge! When we were kids (well, young teens) on school vacation we'd hop a bus at the end of the street, to the nearest T station and go in and walk around Cambridge for the day.
Oh Frus, that is very hot to be running a race! Be sure you hydrate well.
I did get in a bike ride last night, but it was very windy. I had head winds most of the way, and a few gusts that actually blew me sideways. It's still windy today, and I may opt for some inside cardio if it doesn't calm down.
