Talking Carbohydrate Addict Diet

Just out of curiosity. Is there ANYONE on the Carbohydrate Addict Diet by Dr. Rachel Heller?

As big as this site is I can't find anyone who actually on it and I love it!!
I'd like to know if there is someone else out there who this diet is working for.

If you are out there I'd love to hear from you.

I stick to a low-carb diet but not the one that you mentioned. I love this WOE and it has worked tremendously for me. I haven't heard of the Carbohydrate Addict diet, please tell me more about it.

Obviously yours is working! You look great!

Mine is 2 low carb meals a day and 1 reward meal. The 2 low carbs meals can be anything low carb like 3 pieces of bacon and 2 fried eggs. Lunch can be chicken salad. Portion sizes are what you would get in a resturant. Your reward meal is a well balanced meal with all the carbs you want. You can have dessert. etc. The key is to eat your reward meal in 1 hour.

Each week there are 4 diets you can try depending how much weight you loss or didn't that week. This is to keep you from have those plateaus.

I've only been on it a week and 4 days but I lost 11 pounds. I don't feel deprived. i actually feel good.

I would just like to find someone who is doing it.

Does the Carb Addicts diet talk about a specific percentage of carbs? There's lots of us who are carb conscious or carb fussy

Hi, I did the Carb Addicts Diet about 5 years ago when I was stuck on a weight loss plateau. It did work for me and I liked it for the most part. Unfortunately, I ended up gaining 70 of my 90 pound weight loss back during the past three years because I ended up going back to my old eating habits and I have just recently re-started my weight loss efforts again during the past 2 months. I actually considered going back to the Carb Addicts Diet because it wasn't as restrictive as other low-carb diets, but instead I just decided to eat healthy and eat a lower carb diet and try to eat only "good carbs" (whole grain, fruits, etc) and it is working for me. I want to make my eating habits a permanent lifestyle change this time around and I just didn't think I could make the Carb Addicts eating plan a "forever" way of life for me, but I have recommended Carb Addicts to other friends and lent them my book. I'm glad it's working for you!

Was it always unlimited carbs at the reward meal? It's been a long time since I've known anybody on it, but I thought when I read the book that your carbs had to be balanced with protein - so if you wanted more macaroni, you also had to eat more chicken - that type of thing. Maybe I'm mixed up with another plan.

its suppose to be a balanced meal but you can have all the carbs you want. I heard in the updated version they changed a few things like everyting had to be equal. I have the older book.

Last night I had a salad 2 slices of pizza and a dessert. I woke up today and lost .5 pounds.

I sure don't want to gain all my weight back. I've been down that road before. But The reward meal is how I used to eat all day long. Including snacks. Now I' m eating healthier all day long no snacking and not constantly having to resist what I love.

Now don't get me wrong. The reward meal is not a binge session. I do eat healthy, (last night all my sons friends were over so we ordered out.) But normally its healthy with 1 dessert.

I will watch out for what all of you talked about and if its stops working and I notice I am putting it back on I will move on to something else.

For now I'm sticking with it and I'll let you know the results

Thanks

Hi Potato, I have the newer version and yes, it does call for eating 2 cups of salad before the reward meal and then eating equal portions of carbs, protein and vegetables (and a small dessert if you want). You can eat until you are full, but if you go for seconds of carbs, you also have to have a equal portions of protein and vegetables as well. I was definitely pessimistic about being able to eat so much food at the reward meal and still lose weight, but I have to admit it really did work. I think eating the 2 cups of salad before you eat your reward meal has a lot to do with making you get full much quicker and thus, you don't want to overindulge with the meal.

It sounds like the older version is working well for you. Cogratulations on your loss so far!

In the old book that I have it says that on plan C I am to add a salad if I find I am not losing weight. After eating the salad you have your reward meal.

I am still on the Entry plan. It refers to the Reward meal as a "Balanced" meal but I took that to mean all the healthy food groups. Maybe that's why they came out with the updated book.

I wish I could find someone who was doing it now because those who aren't doing can't believe it, but I am with a support group called "Sticking with It" that probably has helped me alot.

We are doing a challenge. Each week someone is named the "Queen" We just started today but I didn't realize how competitive we all are. That is going to make it fun. Check it out you are welcomed to join or anyone else who would like to. The more people the more fun it should be.

chat at ya later

Default Snacks?

Potato, are there snacks on the diet. If so what are they and how much can you have. This diet sounds really interesting.

I would be curious to know how close it is to Atkins. Have you found a comparison? Also, there is a low carb forum on here - maybe you will have more luck there.

From what I remember about Atkins. Its nothing like it. Although Atkins has proven itself for many people I just had a hard time with it. It was harder for me to stick with it than it was for South Beach.

With CAD, its easier for me because you get a reward meal everyday. As far as snacks. On one of the plans there is a snack but honestly even though I use to snack all day long I find that I don't do it as often because of the reward meal. If I do its low carb.

Check out the challenge we have going in the "sticking with it" group. I think its going to be fun.

Hello!
I've recently started on the Carbohydrate Addicts' diet, and I'm also
surprised a forum this big doesn't have many other people on it.
(I have the new version of the book, with 2 c salad before the
carb meal and mandatory balance of protein and veg with the carbs.)
Anyway, I'm having trouble and wondering if any of you who've done
it longer could help.

This is my first morning of having a low-carb breakfast after
a high-carb dinner, and I feel MISERABLE. I woke up energetic and
feeling great, and then had string beans and cheese for breakfast
and I feel like somebody needs to scrape me up off the pavement.
Definitely low-blood-sugar, as if my body mistakenly released insulin
in response to the meal.
When the carb-addict diet worked for you, did it take time before
your body learned to expect which meal would have carbs?
Did you go through this and then it went away, or did your
body not react this way?

Look for help!
Lisa

Because of my insulin resistance (I'm on metformin because of it), I was curious about this diet and decided to purchase both the diet book and the cook book. They both arrived yesterday and I couldn't wait to crack them open.

I had my "AH HA!" moment when I read the book yesterday. Back in November I hadn't even heard about this diet, but was unknowingly eating according to Plan D in the book, and shed just over 20 pounds in 4 weeks, with no effort at all. When I started eating more over the holidays (lots of carb-rich foods) I stopped losing weight and have since gained about 5 pounds back. Because I've been very physically active, I've partially negated the effects of the carb-rich diet I enjoyed from December until now.

I do have a later edition which says to eat 2 cups of salad before your reward meal or to substitute another approved type of vegetable. The cookbook itself is pretty basic - there's stuff in there that I could've thought of, such as tossing a wheel of brie into an oven for baked brie, but there's also some other recipes that should prove to be interesting and help me adhere to this eating plan. I tried a recipe for Ginger Chicken last night and was pretty impressed with the flavour.

Good luck, and congrats on the initial loss while on this programme. It'll be interesting to see what happens over the next few days as I move forward with this eating plan.
