I've never heard of this diet, but it seems that everyone is talking highly of it so far. I intend to stick with Atkins, but slightly change it once I get off the induction period. I'll have to read the book!
I read the book a few years ago, actually, and found it very thought-provoking. I'm doing Atkins right now, and finding that works very well - but the underlying 'cut out most of the bread & pasta & spuds' thing in the Carbohydrate Addict's Diet really did hit the nail on the head for me.
You bet! I am doing South Beach, cutting way back on the bread, spuds and pasta and feeling great. I did read the Carb Addicts Diet book several years ago and agree that it is sound. More and more physicians are recognizing the effect carbs have on those of us with insulin resistance.
I've read this book too . . . as long as you follow the guideline of lots of salad and keeping your reward meal in balance, I think it's a good plan.
I definitely follow a low GI/GL eating regimen but am not really on any pre-defined plan. Definitely agree that all carbs are definitely not created equal and luckily the medical world and the diet worls are finally realizing that.
The only thing that bothers me about most GI diets is that they say some fruits are bad. I just don't think that fruit hurts at all. Most people don't binge on fruit and it is full of good things. I like to eat half a grapefruit for bk and then a tomato soup made with tomato juice and soy milk before I eat anything else. Then I try to keep refined carbs low and eat smaller portions. I feel so good when I eat this way.
A close friend lost a lot of weight with the carb addict's diet, but gained it all back very quickly as soon as she went off the plan. Another poster above mentioned the same happened to her. I would carefully consider that going forward.
I think whether or not it's a good fit for you is also an issue. If you're eating healthy balanced reward meals, that's great. But if the latest edition is the same as my friend's in this respect, you have one hour to eat the reward meal. For some people (including my friend sometimes) that meant a crazy binge to beat the clock. Remarkably, it did still work in terms of weight loss, but I thought her hair and complexion were looking kind of 'off' when things took this direction.
So IMHO maybe it's good for some folks, or maybe for short-term loss, but it doesn't seem like a feasible lifestyle change approach to me. Again, IMHO.
I was just wondering in the new book if you have to eat fat free cheese. I have been doing really well eating my low carb meals with like omelots, salads, ans even found a 0 carb salad dressing. Ken's Ceasar but I have also been enjoying full fat cheese. Please help. I only have the old edition. I ordered the new one but it has not yet arrived. I also have not lost much since the first week. The old book does not say to eat salad or mention the portions of protein, etc, Do you think this is why?
