Default Newbie looking for an "Eat to Live" buddy!!!!

Hi ladies --

I'm a new "chick" and I'm doing the "Eat to Live" diet by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. I'd love to find a weight-loss buddy if there is one out there!!!!

Hi, Junia! I'm sorry about the lack of responses so far.
Is that a new diet? Can you tell us a bit about it?

I'm looking for a weight loss buddy too. However, I'm more on the "live to eat" lifestyle! I'm trying to change that and think that getting support here will help.

Yeah, this looks like a pretty good place for support. I think I really need to be able to talk with people who understand what I'm going through.

What changes would you like to make, SSarah? Maybe we can support each other along the way... as you can see from my ticker, I have a ways to go...

Junia
Tell me about the Eat to Live program. I don't know anything about that one and I'm looking for "something" to get me started and keep me motivated.
Help.

Well, it's based on this book, "Eat to Live" by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. It's a big challenge but yields big results. The central thing is to choose foods that are "nutrient dense" -- basically, ones that have a high ratio of nutrients to calories. You get to eat a LOT because it's based largely on vegetables, fruits, and legumes, and minimizes or eliminates animal products. There's a vegetarian and a non-vegetarian, and I'm doing the veg one. I highly recommend the book just for the nutritional information even if you choose not to follow the program.

I can be your buddy if you want to team up. I know nothing of the Fuhrman diet but hope to start living mainly on veg, fruit and pulses, and stuff like wild rice and quinoa.

Awesome! You should totally check out the book"Eat to Live" -- it's challenging but it's inspiring, too.

More later...

Hi Junia!

Good to hear from you. I read many reviews, and this seems like a pretty hardcore vegan diet.
I ate vegan, mainly organic and wholefoods, no white rice etc. for 6 months and lost 7kg with no effort or pain and have never felt healthier.
I ate moderately, enough not to be hungry, but definitely did not starve. A quinoa porridge in the morning, stirfry with rice for lunch, then some wholewheat pasta with veg sauce or nutloaf for dinner. Also some fruits, but not loads, yellow apples and clementines mainly. Then soya milk to cover the calcium need. And licorice for treats. It felt really nice to use organic products as well, like shampoos and washing powders.

When I stopped the weight just started piling on and I feel like this is not my body, it's uncomfortable and depressing when you have to move up dress sizes and I feel mortified that people seem to not be as respectful to you as they used to be. Like they are watching and judging and thinking you must be dumb because you eat too much. I know feelings are not facts, but it's sometimes hard to truly believe.

I can't wait to get back to a nice slim body and stop this nonsense with eating unhealthy. I realise I'm talking too much, but my theory is that humans are basically intelligent monkeys, and should eat mainly veg, fruit, nuts and the like. It would be brilliant to get to know you and help give you support, encouragement and hope in your quest to slim down.

Misti -- thanks for the welcome! Yeah, I really felt the need for support and this looks like a great place for it! Congrats on losing 35 pounds so far!

San** -- it's good to meet someone else who is interested in a plant-based diet. Let's go for it! And I totally know what you mean about the lack of respect for "fat chicks." It's so depressing sometimes when I think that people would treat me far differently if I weighed 100 lbs less. *sigh* But let's make a big salad and show that fat who's boss, shall we?

LOL I love it!!! And we may agree (and it is true) that fat people are treated very badly in our society... but we can't change other people. We CAN change ourselves so let's bust our butts and do it!

Ellis: Sorry, I somehow missed your post earlier -- thanks for the welcome! The book "Eat to Live" was written in 2003 by Dr. Joel Fuhrman, and it's a nutritional plan that focuses on "nutrient density" -- eating foods with the best nutritional bang for your caloric buck. He favors minimizing animal products -- he presents both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meal plans, but recommends that either way, we base our diet around veggies, fruits, and legumes.

Misti -- you are so right. We can't change other people. But I want to change myself... and I'll work my butt off to... well, work my butt off.

For anyone who is interested in the Eat to Live diet, please join us on this thread here. If it winds up looking like something any of you would like to try, I'd love to have you join in -- the more the merrier!
