Default Calorie burning monitor?

How does one know how many calories she has burned up in doing a workout? Is there a small monitor or something that can do this that can be purchased? How do I calculate this?

The cardio equipment I use has calorie monitors on it. I find that the # of calories reported varies widely from equipment type to equipment type, so it makes me feel suspicious of the answer.

There are various calculators on the web.

Apex Fitness has something called a "bodybugg" that purports to report the number of calories you consume each day.

There is something called "BodyGem" that will calculate your resting metabolic rate based on your respirations. My gym uses it to help establish daily calorie goals.

Hope this helps!

There are some on-line programmes too, like fitday.com.

I own the bodybugg and have been using it about a week now. I really love it! You wear it on your arm all day and it tracks the calories you expend with 92% accuracy (at least that's their claim!). You upload the information to their website where you also log your caloric intake and you can track your calorie deficit or surplus for the day. It's really great. It's like playing a game every day. I actually watched tv while running in place the other day because I needed to burn more calories for the day. I like that it lets me know where I stand at all times.

It is an expensive device, though, so you'd have to be serious about using it in order to make such an investment. If you have any more questions about it feel free to ask!

THere's a Caltrac device, which was about $40 US when I bought it, it worked and I lost/gained what I should have compared to the little thing! So I'd say it was reasonably accurate

In the exercise study I did in college, they used a polar heart monitor which also calculated your calories burned very accuratly.
