I'm new, in case noone noticed I'm a 26y/o female from the Bangor area. I'm in the market to lose 45lbs, but I'd be content with 10 right now. I have pretty good will power, but am very easily distracted.
Hopefully I'll find some support and help here. If anyone is in the area and wants to walk......well.......I have two dogs and am ready to go, usually.
Just wanting to say hi and buy some cleats. If you're going walking in Bangor, you're going to need them 6 months out of the year. LOL!
Just moved from NH in Nov. Was actually in Bangor back in June for a big Stephen King fan club get together. Yeah...I was one of the lunatics hanging all over his fence taking snapshots.
Cleats? Well, for now I have hip waders, since we've been under water for a week now, and I do have snowshoes and bean boots for those long winter days. But it is those days when the dog looks at me like, you have GOT to be kidding. And I agree and lay back on the couch.....
Mr. King's house is beautiful huh? I always thought it was weird that he lives just a mile out of the center of town, but I suppose if I had his mind, I would want to be surrounded by people too. How can you be him and not scare the daylights out of yourself regularly
Hi Pamela!
Not from Bangor- but still wanted to chime in. I forget what street it is- but a real good friend lives right next to the 7-11 and subway. Oh man it's been so long since I've been up there! I know it's walking distance to a bar and right next to the bar is the big and tall mens store funny what we remember huh? Because when we walk back to her house from the bar- we used to stop at 7-11 to get a slushpuppy.
Anyways, I was born and raised in Lewiston, moved to Waterville for college, and then moved to Dover-Foxcroft for work. THEN I moved to NC.
But anyways, congrats on taking the first step and the decision to lose weight. (and join this wonderful community!)
I went on a 5K Jingle Bell run/walk back in 2003 in Concord, NH. Some of the guys that came in first HAD to have had cleats on. We were in the middle of a noreaster and most of it was a solid patch of ice. I was sliding more than running. And still, some of those guys clocked in at 8 minute miles. Sheesh!
Yup, you guys would be in the middle of mud season right now. Man, all that good weather conducive to outdoors activity. LOL!
King's got a beautiful house, then he plants bats and spiders and such in wrought iron work on the top of his fence. LOL I bet all his neighbors were at their windows saying "Look at all those kooks over at Steve's house again". I don't recall the street he's on, but they can tell you how to get there at Betts Bookstore if you ever wanted to see it. It's about 6 blocks from the bookstore. We walked up from there.
Hello everyone, I am new here too! I live in Mass, but have a camp in Amherst Maine Ok I go every year and have my husband drive around Bangor endlessy trying to find SK's house! LOL So would you be so kind to my husband and tell me where it is? hehehehe We know our way around Bangor pretty good.
Brooke, look up Betts Bookstore. I don't recall which street it's on and hubby's at work right now...he'd know. But Betts directs people to his house all the time and you can just walk from the bookstore. I believe they also call ahead and say "Hey Steve, some more of those kooks are coming to peer at your house dude." LOL He probably vacates the house everytime he sees Betts on his caller ID.
They have some really kewl stuff in Betts too. They have like the original autographed copy of The Stand. Don't recall the price, but it has several zeros after it. Yikes!
To get to Mr. King's house take the Union Street exit off interstate 95 and turn right. West Broadway is the name of the road, it's a side road to your left. If you come to the baseball field/swimming pool you have gone to far, turn around and go back one street, it's just before it. It's only 4-5 houses down. Look for the gargoyles
