Question Newbie from New Zealand

Hi there
I'm Rachel and I've been doing WW at home (not the "At Home" program, but at home by myself) for 6 weeks and have lost 5.4kgs (almost 12 lbs?) I did lose 17kgs four years ago doing the "At Work" program, but two kids and four years later, I got back where I started.... so 6 weeks ago I decided to do WW again Except this time I'm doing the lactation plan, as I have a 6.5 month old that I'm breastfeeding.... so that means a daily allowance of 30 points for me.
I'm just curious really.... what are Flexipoints? We don't have them over here - we just have straight "Points" points.

Hope you find a good answer, and when you do can you tell me please.

I am on my thrid tie at weight watchers and have always been sucessful, but I moved to germany 3 years ago and my weight went up again, and now I have to do WW with a limited understanding of the german language. So its tough and I'am struggling. From what I can gather its mostly the points system and the flex bit comes from the fact that you can carry over 4 points per day plus 12 a week for exercise. I don't see the difference from when I was doing it in the UK 4 years ago. Except they monitor how much calcuim you have per day as well as fruit/veg

I do have a question though. Over here you can eat as much pasta as you want in one sitting for 4 points (3 for wholegrain). and as much potato as you want for 2 points. We didn't have that in the UK is it just a german thing?

I seem to be doing well before Christmas, but I'm finding it hard now and my goal of the end of Feb will not be met. I'm felling a bit fed up today, because its valentines day and my boyfriend has been very supportive of my diet, and has promised to take me away for teh weekend when I reach goal weight. But I'm really struggling to get there.

thanks for your reply, but we're no closer to getting our questions answered, which is a pain. In NZ on the WW program you can carry over 4 points from one day to the next, and you can exercise for up to 12 bonus points weekly.... but once that week has gone, the slate is wiped clean and you start afresh. It sounds like the WW you experience before you went to Germany. I officially did WW 5 years ago (now I'm doing it at home), and maybe the whole carbs thing has changed? Back when I did it there wasn't a limit on how many carbs you could eat daily. I've never heard of eating as much pasta or potato as you want.... Hmmmm.... maybe it's a German WW thing???But for me, I'm trying to be eating low GI as well, and that seems to help sustain my feeling of fullness for longer, and I don't feel hungry too often. That means keeping off the potatoes, as they're high GI, and eating kumara (sweet potato) instead.

Hi Yvonne and Rachel! I am on the Canadian/U.S. WW plan which is the Flexpoints plan.

On this plan instead of having a point range per day (depending on your weight) you have a minimum amount of points that you have to eat per day + an additional 35 points per week that you can use however you want but you must count them. And you can't carry the points over from week to week. If you don't use em' you lose em' and your new week begins with your daily minimum and a new set of 35 points.

My minimum points are 22 per day. On one day I may just have my 22 points and the next day I may use 24 points. I sometimes don't even bother with the extra 35 points and just use my 22 per day + any exercise points I have. You don't have to use the Flexpoints but they are there if you need them.

They do come in handy when you are going out for a meal or have a special event to attend where you know that there will be things like birthday cake etc.

Yvonne- I think that the pasta/potato business must be a German thing as we have to count the points per serving for those two items and it is definetely not 2 points - though I wish it were!

The programs over here also emphasize eating whole grain breads and cereals, whole wheat pasta, couscous, etc., which they had not done in the past. They are also really pushing exercising by selling WW exercise videos/DVD's, including exercise information in the weekly materials and in January we were given an exercise CDrom with our materials. WW seems to be contantly improving their program. I love the Flexplan!
