Default A Christmas surprise!

Well ladies, I found out yesterday that I am pregnant. (According to two different pregnancy tests that came back positive). I have not yet been to the doctor. I'm a little worried that because of my weight I will not be able to carry it to term. Have any of you had children while overweight?

Congratulations! What a wonderful Christmas present! Are you going to tell the father in a Christmas-ey way or were you too excited to keep it to yourself? (Sorry if I'm being a bit too personal - you don't have to answer that - I just love babies!!! Can't wait to have a few of my own!) As for your weight, one third of this country is overweight - many far more so than you - I'm sure that your doctor is very familiar with any complications that may arise and will take wonderful care of you and your Christmas surprise. Besides, you've lost 25 lbs. - they say that even a small dent in the amount of weight you lose can really improve your overall health. Good luck to you!

Thanks ladies! I don't have an obstetrician yet, but I hope the one I get will be excellent. As far as the daddy finding out, he was there when I took the test. He is SUPER excited. As of right now my mother and best friend know. I will wait till after Christmas to tell my father because he doesn't think I'm old enough to be a mother. (I'm 24...so I wonder when he thinks I should have children) I have just heard way too many things about overweight women getting pre-eclemsia and gestational diabetes. I guess I will just try to continue eating the right things even if I have a wicked craving. Much love to you beautiful ladies!!!

Congratulations! What exciting news! Like Jenicra said, I think you'll be just fine. You've lost some weight, and you're making healthy changes -- that's what is important. I know women heavier than you that have had children with minimal/no complications, so I'm sure things will go great. Congratulations again! Keep us up-to-date!

Keep up the healthy habits you've gained - eat healthy (just eat more of those healthy foods) and keep up the light exercise (walking and such). Dad's are never ready for their baby girls to grow up, are they? Feel free to keep posting here even if though you won't be trying to lose weight for a few months!

Ash! congratulations! I am really pleased for you! It must be very exciting and kind of scary right now.. but what a neat early christmas present for you and your partner! as the others have said, you have lost a significant amount of weight! 25 lbs is not to be sneezed at. Perhaps go see your local gym or a personal trainer and get them to help you devise an exercise plan for you pregnancy to keep you moving and fit. A friend of mine had a trouble free pregnancy and went to the gym/yoga almost the whole way through which is what she attributes her lack of complications to. (She is only slightly smaller than you too). But good luck and once again CONGRATULATIONS!
