Default 2 quick Questions from an SBD Newbie

Hi
I have a can of ortega ff refried beans on the shelf and I wondered if they were legal for phase one or indeed legal at all they have no sugar.

Also i have a thing of sausage no casing (it didn't make it into stuffing for T-day) I was wondering if it was useable in small amounts ie crumble it in some water cook and put in the miniquiches I'm just trying to think of some DH friendly food so I'm not doing double kitchen duty

Thanks so much!
Kierie

Check the beans, if they are pinto you need to save that can for phase 2. They do make ff black bean refried beans which are pretty good. I eat them all the time with some salsa and a little melted lf cheese.

If it's regular pork sausage, it's not good. But another thing you can do is when you make mini-quiches and add the sausage to the ones for dh.

I normally use FF refried black beans but I just checked and pinto beans are now allowed. They should not have any added sugar though. Check the ingredient list and see if sugar is listed as an ingredient. If it is then you should find a different brand or make your own from mashed up beans.

As to the sausage, it is definitely going to be higher in fat than you should have on South Beach. Turkey sausage is allowed (check the Phase 1 list since it says how limited it is). What I would suggest is to make up some of the quiches with the sausage and some without (or using turkey sausage) and label them for yourself or for you husband. There are some things that I just cook differently for my husband or son but there are many things that you can make that you will find are so good everyone will eat.

Really? For phase 1? I missed that update.

I always wondered why pinto beans were considered a no-no when there wasn't that much difference in the GI.

Thanks for the update. It's good to know what one is talking about.

Just a quickie
I think I know why pintos were a nono
ever since i made dinner last night I was a fiend I want carbs so bad and I ate waayyy too much of the food
then again it could just be the novelty wearing off and the commitment getting tested
ARG!
