Pins and needles sensation - could it be related to weight lifting?
Iv been weight lifting for 2 months now.
My routine has not really changed very much
I am doing 2 full body weight workouts a week, with 3 day rest inbetween each. Im doing some cardio, warmups before and after weights, and maybe a 20minuet jog once a week, and during my weight sessions, i also do floor work for abs and back etc.
For the past 2 weeks, i'v had mild lower back pain, comes and goes, but it's very annoying as iv never bad back pain in my life.
I'v had pins and needles in my legs, mainly calves and feet, which is mild-moderate sensation which comes and goes and lasts for around 5-15minutes each time. Having potassium or sugars or walking and stretching does not improve it or make it go away.
My sight has also been a bit blurry on occassions.
I have been trying to pin point what could be causing this, and i ws wondering if it could be due to inproper techniques using weight's.
My personal trainer is let's just say, a bit of an air head. For our last 2 sessions (i have 1 session a week), we have done different weight exercises,
and we were doing some exercise and the weight was too heavy for me, i did 6 rep's correctly, and then i told her i couldn't do anymore, and shes like no keep going so i am doing my best, so my body is moving, sholders the bar was not being lifted correctly, wobbly, unbalanced bla bla bla and shes like stop doing it, do it properly, and im like, hello, am trying my best, this is too heavy. This kind of incident has happend a few times in out past few sessions, and it's not just with weight's but also some floor exercises, i am improving in stregth and fitness and i can now lift heavier then when i started out, and i do follow the lift to failure technique to a point, but i know when i am past the failure point and shes trying to push me to do some exercises for more reps and i just cant, and i am worried i have done something to my back but i am more concerned about the pins and needles, so i was wondering if inproper techiques could be due to these symptoms?
I am going to the doctor this week anyway, but i was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem due to weight lifting?
Blurry vision rang a bell with me, though not due to any connection that I am aware of with weight training. A close friend of mine was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and off and on blurry vision was her primary symptom. The Joslin Diabetes Center also lists "tingling or numbness in the hands or feet" as a possible symptom. Not to be alarmist, but as you'll be going to the doctor anyway, might be worth getting the blood test that is indicative for type 2 diabetes.
I'm no doctor and this is certainly something you need to discuss with your doc. But my first thought was about breathing. Try stopping to correct your breathing and see if that helps.
And I have to watch what I eat and when I eat it. Carbs are good (for me) before I work out and I try to have protein after.
I think you should go for a check-up with your Doctor, just to make sure. I also think that your PT is a bit of a numbskull! Lifting to failure is great, but lifting beyond that, is just dumb - especially when you can't lift to form properly!
Yea my mum is a nurse, she said it could eb a numebr fo things, but off the top of her head she did mention diabetes.
Thing is though, yes it does run in my family, my grandfather and an auntie, both on my mothers side, have type 2, but when i visited them last christmas, i did that prick test with my finger, just to see what my levels were, and they were prefect.
I know my triglicorides(sorry shocking spelling) and my cholestorol and also my blood pressure have all been recently checed this year, so that is why i am thinking that it may not be that.
I was actually thinking of just leaving it, but last night, and again tonight it's started again, id really like to ignore this but i suppose i better get myself checked out.
I have read that, if i had a herneated disk, it could be pressing on some nerves that then cause the pins and neddles, and i read that can be caused from doing weight training incorrectly, so im going to ask my doctor all of this and see what she says.
i'm not a doc or medical expert but pins and needles isn't a good sign after lifting. i dislocated my shoulder in june and trapped a nerve which caused bad pins and needles get it looked at
You wouldn't be working out of you had a herniated disc. The pain is excruciating, especially at first. I have bulged discs (2) in my lower back, and even that has affected my life huge in the pain management department in the last 10 years.
Something could be out of place though, try a chiropractor if the doc doesn't find anything.
