Default doing weight watchers and frustrated

I've been on weight watchers since May and I'm not doing so hot at it. Anybody wanna let me know how to jumpstart my weight loss. It has taken me almost 4 months to lose 11 pounds. I am so ready to just call it quits but then I think about how I really really want to be healthier and at a healthier weight.

Hello, I use to be on the weight watchers plan a couple of years ago... well, its been longer than that b/c they had just come out with winning points. At first I thought it would be easy. I lost 5 lbs my first two weeks! But then I hit a rut. I couldn't continue on the plan anymore. Calculating points wasn't hard, it just took more discipline than I was ready for. I'm not bashing the ww program, it has worked for a lot of people, but it doesn't work for everyone. I recently joined a weight loss support group known as TOPS. There is no special program you have to comply with, only the support and motivation from others who have been able to change their lifestyle by taking baby steps. Some started out at over 300 lbs, its taken them a few years but they eventually reached their goal through hard work and determination. The bottom line is you have to figure out what is important to you and what will work for you. I have realized that after years of dieting and diet pills that the only way I will ever lose weight is the way that every doctor in America will tell you. I began exercising 20 minutes a day, limited my sugar/fat intake and made a significant change in my caloric intake. Learning how to control your cravings and make healthier food choices is the key to any weight loss. If I can succeed at this anyone can. Just find your nitch.. don't give up on WW if you feel it will benefit you in the long run. But.. if you feel frustrated and feel like it isn't working for you, don't be afraid to make a change to something that will!

Hi Chrily:

WW is a wonderful program, but then again so are so many other plans that are out there. If you like the WW program, I would like to suggest that you really stop and analyze what's going on.

After being on WW for several years, sometimes doing well and sometimes not, I have come to understand that "the program" is alot more than how many points you're eating. I also realize that after a few months on the program it is easy to get "sloppy".

I would suggest that you go back to basics. Make sure that you are eating EXACTLY the points that you are supposed to be eating. Eating too many points can result in gaining as can eating too few points. So many make the mistake of eating too low, thinking less food, more weightloss. That's not how it works. Your metabolism needs the amount of food that WW suggests.

Getting back to basics also means weighing and measuring (and not "eyeballing") portions. It means getting in 5 servings of fruits/vegetables a day. It means l0imited sugary treats to once or twice a WEEK. It means getting in your 6-8 glasses of water each day, EVERY day.

I hope this helps some. Again, if you like the program, it might be worth taking a second look at it.

Also, I would like to invite you to join us here. I sent you a PM with some navigation tips. Thanks for posting.

Thank you both of you who have replied so far. I think I am getting kind of careless with WW. I know I need to exercise more, it's just fitting it in that gets me. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis so by the time I get the kids to bed I am exhausted and then I can barely drag my butt outta bed in the morning to start the whole routine all over again. I've been walking them to school and back each day, which is something new for me. Maybe that will help some. I've also really cut down on my couch potato time. My house has never been so clean. Thanks again.

chrily,

Thin's absolutely right! WW is an excellent program but you can't mess with it for two reasons:

1: If you mess with it either by eating too many or too few points you will gain or not lose at a steady rate.

2: Messing with it sets you up for failure and most of us just slip and slide or way back to where we started.

Review you books, measure and, above all, be honest with yourself. If you stick with it you'll just keep getting healthier and thinner.

Good Luck,

Another WW advocate chiming in! WW is an excellent, balanced program that WORKS! ...If you work it. Are you accounting for EVERY SINGLE BIT OF FOOD THAT GOES INTO YOUR MOUTH? It sometimes is a pain to write it all down, but it sure is an eye opener when I do! I know that I can easily consume 10 points (or more) just by picking and tasting and nibbling as I cook. Are you getting protein at each meal? Are you drinking ALL the water? How about vegetables? Bulk up your meals with 0 point vegetables. Take the time to review what you are doing (or not doing!) and see if you can't make this work for you! Sounds like you're doing well with exercise...if the walk to and from school is too short, why not add a few blocks after you get the kids to school or before you pick them up again? Sure sounds like you are on the right track though!

Good luck, and come on over to the daily boards if you like!

Thanks for chiming in...I do pretty good about writing stuff down in my journal. Some days I am totally shocked by what I've eaten. The other day I used 17 flexpoints...Ouch! The water part, I could probably do better on. I know I spend alot of time being thirsty, so I know I'm not getting enough. Veggies? That is probably the hardest for me because I am just not a vegetable eater. Or fruit for that matter. I'm a carb addict. Crackers...tortillas...etc. No bread products though. I'm allergic to yeast and wheat. I should be skinny....those restrictions (no yeast) kills all the fun stuff to eat. The most unappetizing thing in the world has to be yeast-free bread. Hard as a rock and no taste. Thanks again for your input.

Chrily, I'm a carb addict too! I'm doing WW's Core program, though, and I find that if I can just stick to it for a few days, I feel much better, more energetic, and the cravings, while not gone, are much easier to manage. It's not a low-carb plan, but the carbs that it allows don't have that same effect as wheat. Wheat and other carbs that are high on the glycemic index make me feel exhausted, achy, and depressed. And I just crave more of them the worse I feel. But if I stay almost entirely away from them, the difference is amazing. Good luck!

Arabella...Thanks for your post. I've thought about switching over to the Core program but haven't yet. It might actually help me out. I'm really really allergic to wheat and yeast, but of which I have eaten this last week or two and the inside of my mouth and throat are itching so bad, it's driving me crazy. I wonder if I would detox a little on the Core program. I actually have been really fatigued and depressed lately. Thanks again. Talk to you soon.
