Question Help: I just started lifting & I'm nauseas!

Hi everyone,

Just yesterday, I finally joined the gym ( ). Today was my first day...a light one: 20 minutes of cardio & 3 sets of abdominal exercises. A few hours later, I began to feel very nauseas.

Is it possible that I am experiencing the effects of toxins being released in my bloodstream from starting to lift? If so, what can I do to avoid this? How many days should I expect to feel this way?

It's hard enough to get started on an exercise program, but to feel sick every time you do it makes it even harder. I am eating good (similar to BFL), mostly drinking enough water (although today I could have drank a little more) and avoiding alcohol. I don't smoke. I do drink coffee occasionally (I had two cups tonight).

Thanks for your wisdom,

I would definitely see a doctor. I had a similar problem before right after I exercised and it was a low blood sugar problem. If you aren't eating before and after your workout, that could be your issue, but it is best to talk to your doctor.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the welcome! To be honest, I didn't even think about seeing a doctor...when I first started this effort back in January, I saw a doctor and got a clean bill of health and a thumbs up on my nutrition program, but maybe I should go back because maybe something has changed. Thanks for pointing that out. I had ate 4 egg whites, 1 1/2 oranges and 4 almonds about 1 hour before I worked out. Maybe I shouldn't have ate that? Anyways, I will make an appt. or at least call the "Ask-A-Nurse" program.

Hey, what do you guys think of the elliptical trainers, BTW? We did those yesterday and really liked them. They were more fun than treadmills and I seemed to get up a better sweat.

I love elliptical machines, mostly because I am not a steady walker and I tend to walk off the sides on the treadmill and always feel like i'm about to trip and fall (I'm clumsy).

Nelie, I am soooooo clumbsy! I thought I was the only person that almost fell of treadmills! lol Maybe that is why I liked the elliptical machine so much. Plus, at my gym, there are two of those machines kind of hidden in a corner at the front looking out the window so that you can watch the cars and people go by...it makes time go by fast.

I'm really liking this new gym I joined: it's a small, local owned gym (not a chain)...it doesn't have that "meat-market" feel that makes me really uncomfortable. My neighbor owns it and he's always willing to answer my nagging questions. It's perfect for me right now. Now, if I can just get into a regular lifting routine. I ordered the BFL journal and it should be here today...I figure I will "officially" start the schedule on Monday, but until then I will still do a thrown-together routine.
