It's early on Saturday and am up so that I can pack, so I thought I would send out a quick post. I was way too tired yesterday to pack so I've left it for last minute. My boyfriend is still sleeping so really the only thing I can pack is the food and everything else but my clothes. Really looking forward to visiting with my sister and her 2 boys...1 and 3. They live in Charlotte so I get to see them about every 2 months. Fortunately her inlaw live about an hour from me so do get to see them when they come up to visit.
Still having no desire to eat. I managed to get down an egg muffin turkey bacon and a small salad for lunch. When it came time for dinner, the thought of eating made me nauseous. I did snack on walnuts and had a few pieces of f/f chicken and reduced fat cheddar cheese...oh and some celery with a little peanut butter. I can't believe I am saying this, but I think I am tired of eating......Is that possible? I do try to eat a little just to keep my metabolism going, but man it's getting tough. Right now I am thinking of eating eggs again for breakfast and am starting to get the gag reflex.
No cavaties at the dentist yesterday.....WOOHOO. That doesn't happend too often. Maybe now that I am not eating all the sugar I used to, it may happen more often.
Well I guess I had better go make some coffee and try to get some breakfast down...get some energy to start packing.
Good morning, Sheila! Enjoy your visit with your sister and her family!!
Little Chick, are you okay, hon? I'm sorry you're missing your Dad. I'm glad he was able to have an extended visit with you.
Peggy, I hope your dogs are doing alright.
Jen, I can totally relate to the "good" exercise pain. I'm still recovering from seeing my trainer on Wednesday, plus a wicked yoga session on Thursday. But I LOVE this kind of pain! We're building muscle, girl!!
LaurieX, I hope your little DD is alright today. Before you know it, those teeth will be FALLING out!
Good morning, Sheila, and Saturday Sleepyheads. Sheila, have a fun and safe trip.
The school work is now judged and mounted on the wall in the Exhibition Hall. Whew! I was lucky to have help to hang the stuff because there sure was a passel of it! (In this case a passel means over 1000 pieces!) We worked 8 AM to 8 PM but that part is done! I have a lot of recording and signs to make but can pick away at that over the weekend.
We really miss having bratty Lucy around. She may come back from Morna's for a bit but will be off for her rendezvous with Purple Reign mid-week. AND...wonder of wonders....Hershey came into heat on Thursday after Lucy left! She will be bred for her last litter in about a week (no plane trip) so I'll have two pregnant girls for a couple of months and they will have puppies within five days of each other! They have their pups at Morna's and stay until they are weaned so we will be dogless for about five weeks! It will be so strange!
It looks like another muggy day here in "Mayberry". Maybe I'll get some weeding done before it gets too hot out there. I can weed with one hand, right?
What's on your agenda for today?
at Ellis who snuck in. Wanna come and sit on my porch?
Well its a little early for me on this Saturday am. My dogs woke me up needing to go out and now I can't sleep. Have to many things I need to do going through my head. I hate that.
Anybody got any ideas on stuff I can have with Hambergers? We are having friends over and are grilling. I am still on Phase I so I need to stick to my diet.
Shelia I am sorry you are not hungry. That is a foriegn problem to me. I seem to be always hugry. Maybe you just need this little trip and change of scienery to pep you back up again!
Well I am off to make my grocery list. Check in later.
Have a great weekend everyone!!
good morninig beach beauties!!
i didn't get a chance to say hi yesterday too busy at work, so hello to everyone!!!
i worked my 1/2 day yesterday and then took 2 of my kiddos to the dr. for their annual physical. they both need them for school and to be cleared to participate in sports. dd (14yo) has had a noticible goiter for about 1 year now, the dr has done thyroid testing 3x now and keeps telling me all the blood work is negative, he also says there is not anything they will do unless her bloodwork comes back abnormal. so he ordered bloodwork and a neck xray (again) had this done in feb last. i was wondering if any of you had any experience with thyroid/goiter problems ??
now on to ds (13yo) my son is a big boy always has been, he teared up at the dr. over the number on the scale he is now 5'7" and weighs 175 lbs. my son is by no means fat, his waist size is 30" he is solid muscle, but how do i explain to a 13yo boy??? no matter how many times i tell him muscle weighs more than fat all he can see is he weighs 175 and his best friend weighs 102. so in his mind he is FAT. the dr asked him if he had any concerns about his weight and he said yes i want to weigh less, the dr tried to explain the muscle mass thing and told him to start lifting weights and develop his muscles more and to eat healthy but definately not to diet. all i can say is i hated puberty when i went through it and i hate it even more watching my kiddos go through it!!! darn old mother nature.
today it is raining so the weeding of the front yard is off for today, i think i'll try and clean this office out a little bit it has gotten so bad in here i don't want to come in!!
laurie- i can not wait to hear in great detail how you lovely spa day went!!! so great for you. i hope you will post a picture of the NEW you!! as far as the nutritionist goes i think you should look for one that makes you feel more comfortable, someone who lets you help decide the path you want to take with your weight loss instead of such a dictator. as far as weighing goes i dont think the not weighing yourself thing sounds kosher, i'm certainly not an expert here but it sounds like she just wants to make some extra $$ having you come in for the weighing thing. you seem like a very level headded person use your best judgement!!
i wish i could post to each of you individually but i just cant this am so hello to all of you wonderful beach beauties!! have a great weekend on the beach!!!
Morning, chicks! I was curious this morning at what my prepregnancy weight was so I looked it up. At my first visit (Dec 1996) when I was 6 weeks pregnant I weighed 193 3/4 (with clothes). This morning I weighed 180.5 naked. Wow! For some reason, my weight history had blurred in my memory. I guess I just didn't want to remember it!
My highest pregnancy weight was 225. This March I was 214. I am SO glad I started South Beach. I can't wait until I see the doc on Tuesday!
They are predicting rain for today so I guess I better get out to the garden soon.
Ruth -Glad to hear that the exhibit is going well. That sounds like a lot of work! We don't have pets (yet), but I can relate to a quiet house- it is always strange when I am home alone!
Barb -That is fantastic! I bet your doctor is going to be thrilled! When I was pregnant, my mental goal was to never go over 200 pounds- once I surpassed that my goal was to not weigh more than my husband. He gained about 30 pounds when I was pregnant, so I was able to at least make that goal! The birthday party is today, right?
Ellis- Day one of "underwears" was not a success. We went through 5 pairs and she seemed very unconcerned at being wet. It is 9:15 here, and she is still dry and has gone twice in the potty. We shall see.......
We are having friends over for dinner and they will be enjoying a SB dinner. Pork tenderloin, bacon wrapped green beans, and a spinack salad. I am going to make some augratin potatoes, I just won't eat them. I am contemplating making a dessert, but may just skip it.
I continue to be tired and crabby, hopefully it can be attributed to PMS. (or early pregnancy! )I knew when I was being *****y to my DH after being awake for only 5 minutes that it may be time for an attitude adjustment!
Jodi, I have a goiter. My thyroid was never off-kilter, but the specialist put me on a low dose of thyroid meds to see if that would stop/slow the growth of it. I went off the meds (my choice) years ago, and the thing hasn't grown at all. I can see it when I swallow, but it's only visible if you're looking for it.
I'll say prayers for your son that he'll be able to sort through his weight debate. I know you must be worried. But he's fortunate! He's going to be a tall, large man! Some of his friends are going to be SO envious when they're older. You're right... if he has a weight room at his school, he should get in there and start working out. It'll be so good for his self-esteem.
Skherb, I have my hamburger bunless (obviously), I spread low-fat cream cheese on it, and I cook some mushrooms and onions to top it off. I eat it with a knife and fork... it's yummy!
Ruth, best of luck to Lucy and Hershey! PLEASE can we see photos of the babies this time?
I'm a wee bit groggy. Went to my parents' house last night and did some wedding planning, then Dad got on a "remember the days" kick and we started watching home videos from when I was little. Of course, they had our beloved 1st weiner dog, Schatzie, on them so we were a bit emotional, God bless her little doggie soul. They have Oscar and Sophie now (see my profile picture) so they make up for Schatzie being gone, but it's still very sad to watch the videos. I stayed there until after midnight! Can't believe my old parents could stay up that late.
I have 2 days off in a row!!! How about that! Today, I'm spending the day cleaning house with my fiance, and then going to Sam's Wholesale to buy some Laughing Cow Cheese and Eggbeaters in bulk. SO much cheaper than the grocery store!
Probably should go eat some breakfast before we get started on the cleaning. Everyone have a great day!
It's another lovely day in CA-- but will be hot and a little humid later on.
ADD--- I'd love to know what school you are attending! I sure wonder if it's the one I know of that has a nursing program (which I'm assuming you are in). If you click on my name does my email addy come up? If so, I don't mind if you do!
I went to lunch yesterday w/my online teacher friends. None of us had met before but somehow we all knew each other right away! LOL! We all think that teachers just have "a look"! I know I think I can pick out the teachers at the grocery store or other places where there are crowds.
We laughed and talked and ate for over 2 hours! It was a lot of fun. We went to The Macaroni Grill (which I think is a nationwide chain). I was going to order a salad but one of the others (who knew I was on The Beach) said, "oh look! They have a low carb menu!" so I got something called Chicken Toscana from that. It was a bed of arrugula (sp?) and spinach, FF feta cheese, tomatoes and a light vinaigrette dressing w/a nice big grilled chicken breast on top. All totally, totally legal and really quite yummy! I will definitely be adding Macaroni Grill to the list of places where I can eat out-- it seems a lot of places are getting on this low carb bandwagon!
On another positive note-- I got on the scales this morning to find I'd lost 3 more lbs for a total of 79!!!! One more and I can change my chickie!!!!
I'm really trying to get to know all of you. I read all your posts and am trying to remember who is who-- but it may take me awhile! I do wish you all well and want to thank you for welcoming me to your group.
OH! To the person having hamburgers tonight---- if you have the SBD cookbook there's a good recipe for cole slaw in there that would be good at a cook out. I also sometimes make black bean chili to serve w/hamburgers--- saute onions and peppers (I usually use one bell and one Anaheim or Pasilla) until soft. Add 2 cans of drained and rinsed black beans, some LF beef bouillion powder (sp again!) salt, pepper and seasonings that you like-- like chile powder, cumin, etc and some minced garlic and a biiiiiiiiiiig jar of Pace Picante (low sugar) sauce. Simmer for about 30 minutes. It's good w/some LF cheddar cheese and LF sour cream!

I'm so sorry aggie... I can't tell you! what if you're friends with Dragonlady? or worse!
...alas... I must take my secret to graduation with me! Maybe after I am graduated... I hope you won't think ill of me for it. It's just that school is so awful! And I'm not the only one that thinks so. Only I'm stuck there, so I must take my beatings (along with all my peers). Only I, unlike them, cannot end each semester with the thought that it's over and done; because it's not done for the next group... for them it goes on and on.
Example: a friend of mine started the program last semester. At the begining of the semester I offered myself as a place for her to vent if she needed, she said she was doing okay, she could handle it. By the end of the first month she was upset about all of the same things that bothered my class, but she said she was managing because everyone else felt the same way... a little more than a month later she comes to me saying what kind of drugs are these people on? This is busy work, why aren't they teaching us?! On the last day of the semester I saw her at the graduating classes pinning ceremony we huged and she said in to my ear F*&^ them all! about 5 times. Her grade? an A... not the point. To how they treat students.
I belive you can be absoloutely unwavering in a demand for excellence and still provide a supportive learning atmosphere. I don't want to give too many details or I'll give myself away... sufice it to say I can do nothing while I'm there, but I've since discovered that supportive learning environments in nursing schools are few and far between... so it's not wonder there is a nursing shortage. I understand that the environment in teaching schools can be much the same... and isn't there a teaching sortage too? Sorry... that's a completely differnt (end rant for now... sorry)
Anyway... off to a somewhat busy Saturday. I'm hoping that for Monday I will not have gained any weight... maybe lost less than a pound... mostly what I'm loosing now is weight that I've gained courtesy emotional eating while in school... I know that when I get down to me pre-nursing school weight that loosing will not come as easy (but I want to get there before school starts again.. and a little more!!!
GOAL: Loose another 15 pounds or more before 9/1/04
Hope to clean house and get things on the track to organized this weekend. DH's sleep study got cancelled so I'm not dealing with exhaused spouse. Yea!
OHHHHH! RNMom! You're so close to your goal weight! How frustrating to hit a stall now-- but they do happen to us all! Here's a couple of thoughts on re-starting the loss:
I've found I can eat noooooo starchy carbs at all after the middle of the afternoon. If I eat (brown, of course!) rice or WW pasta of any kind at dinner it will reflect badly on the scales. Fruit, milk and any other kind of carb is ok-- but not those starchy ones in rice, bread or pasta even if it's SBD legal!
My friend has lost 130 lbs on Atkins. When she hit a stall she would go off plan for a day or 2 and eat whatever she liked! Then she'd go back to their equivalent of phase 1 for a few days and Voila! She'd begin to lose again! Kinda goofy but if you're desperate.......
Water drinking as you know is also key!
Good luck to you! I can't wait until I'm so close to my goal weight!
afternoon chickies.... what a great day we are having here the sun is out and it is hot. Finally some nice weather. I slept in this morning til nine and DH had a tea waiting for me when I got up. He is such a sweetie. Then we went to town and got a few things at the store. I have decided that I may like to exercise after all. My dad bought the girls a trampoline and what fun it is. I have been jumping on it since wed for about 15 minutes or so a day and I can feel it in my calfs. My youngest dd also got golf clubs and this big net thing and I was beating some golf balls into it as well I did it for 20 minutes or so and my arms are feeling rubbery. Maybe if I can do things like that I can get some exercise in and not really think that I am doing it.
Ellis I am feeling better today thanks. I had a great visit with my dad but hate it when he has to leave. Great hamburger idea I think that I might try that for supper tonight.
kiko- I remember those potty training days well, my oldest dd did care if she was wet either and my youngest would have a poo on it but would stand right beside the toliet and pee on the floor. I ended up making a chart that I put in the bathroom and every time they went they got a sticker after so many stickers that got a surprise.... can't remember excalty what the surprises were but I think they were things like crayons, coloring books etc cheap stuff. It worked for them. I sure she will get the hang of it soon. Good luck.
Ruth- wow 1000 pieces of work that is alot. How did you mange to hang any with only one arm working. I with Ellis I would love to see pictures of the puppies. Have a great day.
Weezle- my dh and I want to get a miniture weiner dog someday. I think they are so cute. It is hard to lose a beloved pet. I still miss my beagle and he has been gone for 3 years now. I will be flipping through pictures and think I remember when Echo did this or that. The girls will do that as well. Amazing how those 4 legged sweeties get into our hearts.
Well chickes dh is calling me from outside. He needs my help. I will be back later. Have a great day to the chicks I didn't get a chance to post to and the ones yet to comme.
Woohoo! DD has stayed dry all morning- even with errand running. Of course, this took several potty breaks in public restrooms, but she is thrilled with herself. I painted her toenails for her as well- she thinks she is the bomb today!
Weezle When is your wedding?? BTW do they really sell Laughing Cow at Sam's? I will need to check that out as I love it, but it is expensive at the grocery store I shop at.
Aggie The dish you described at Mac Grill sounds great- my DH actually wanted to eat there several weeks ago and I looked at him like he had four heads since most of their dishes are pasta based.
