I'm in Phase 1, day 4 of the SB Diet, and I've had a few side abdominal pains, various headaches, and REALLY bad nausia, so bad I had to take a day off school today and didn't eat any dinner last night because of it. I love this diet 'cause I'm very rarely hungry now, and because I'm diabetic (type 1) my blood levels have been fantastic. But, is this normal? I read somewhere it is just your body detoxing from the leftover carbs, is that right? Also, I have cheated a few times so far, last night I had some peanut butter on wholemeal toast (2 slices), a slice of fruit toast, and a few days before that I had a small bowl of instant oatmeal because i felt so sick, hungry and could eat nothing else. Any help appriciated!
For the first 3 or 4 days of the diet I felt pretty rotten. I had a terrible headache for several days, and I felt dizzy and sick to my stomach. I dont know anything about being diabetic, so I'm not sure if this is also affecting how you feel. Perhaps one of the other chicks can answer that for you. You are right about your body detoxing from all the carbs and sugar. I'm not sure if your cheats are relieving or worsening your symptoms. In the long run, I would think that would make the diet more difficult. The more carbs and sugars you have, the more you will crave them.
Cobalt skies -
You know better than any of us that Type 1 diabetes isn't anything to fool around with. And not eating while taking insulin is VERY DANGEROUS!
Did your physician recommend this diet - I would be on the phone talking to his office THIS MINUTE!
I haven't asked my doctor yet, but I intend too. My Mum and I discused the diet, and we both came to the conclusion that it would be fine as long as I adjusted my insulin. I adjusted it from the normal of 50 units per day down to 20 a day, and my blood levels have been perfect. So I don't think it's that. I think I'm just going to carry on with the first phase for a few more days and see how I go.
Cobalt skies, you absolutely MUST check with your physician. Any advice you receive here is NOT medical advice. I am diabetic and know this! Please, please see your doctor right away before you continue on this plan.
Cobalt, please do go see your doctor right away and talk with him. This diet might be great for you, but you really should not change your eating plan without your doctor's advice. It's just too risky.
Just for anyone else who is reading this...if you cheat on Phase 1, you will not see the results you should be seeing, and you jeapordize your work. So, do Phase 1 with no cheats. Yes, this is hard, but it is so worth it! (I lost 26 pounds in Phase 1...trust me!)
For those who are not diabetic--feeling awful for the first 3-5 days of Phase 1 is normal and is your body detoxing from sugar. Don't give in to your body's demands for carbs/sugar and you will feel amazing after that time!

Colbalt_Skies...I feel your pain. I experience the same thing yesterday, but that was day 7. It was so bad, that I didn't even want to eat lunch...I did snack through the day and had a good meal for dinner. It only lasted a few hours, but was bad while it was happening. I hope you are feeling better soon!
