Hey Everyone. So i'm a 21 year old college student. I go to school and work 2 jobs for the summer. Lets see, I'm about to start my senior year in college here... and I think i've gained the freshman 15... at least 3 times since i started in August 2001?
I never was thin to begin with, but i entered college at 185, and I'd kill just to be there again (even tho not the healthiest)! I dunno-- I've always tried to lose weight because I'v e always been big. I try to stick to Weight Watchers lately-- but I'm not too strict... I basically lack the motivation for getting off the butt.
My boyfriend is about to head to Iraq (he's army), so that's more depression on my part and makes things harder for me.
I guess i'm just turning here for some motivation/help if there's anyone who's good at that sorta thing. Okay so yeah, i'll stop here =)
I just joined myself 2 days ago so I know exactly where you are in trying to find support and motivation! I am also a college student working on my senior year. I know the huge amount of stress that surrounds finishing off all of that work and the uncertainties that surround it! I cannot imagine, however, the stress you feel with having your boyfriend going off to Iraq. All I can recommend (with my 2 days of expertise ) is that you can take this time when your boyfriend is away to focus on yourself and to get your own life to the place you want it to be.
Overall, this community is amazing so far and I think there is a ton of support to gain from it! Take a look around!
I am a college student, work two jobs and have 3 kids and a husband. I am also 37 years old! I know the stress you are experiencing. Sometimes I feel as if I am being pulled in a thousand different directions. My problem is that I forget to eat. During break, I was eating 5-6 meals a day. I lost 87 pounds. Now that I take my lunch it often sits next to my desk, ignored for hours on end. I am getting better. I MAKE myself stop and eat. I bring yogurt, bagels with a little peanut butter and honey, wraps (I came up with some awesome recipes!), usually a banana or apple and some low fat/low sugar granola bars.
I park at one end of the campus and walk to all my classes. I also work in a fitness facility and get a free membership. I try to sneak at least some cardio in here and there. I want to get organized and lift weights too, but I have to sleep sometime! lol
I know you can do it. But I will advise this: know your body type. You say you have never been thin. Maybe you are just a larger framed person. Please, please, assess your body type and set your goals realistically and healthily. If you are not naturally twig slim, please don't try to go there. Know your body and find YOUR ideal size. Above all, be healthy.
Good luck.
Hey everyone! thanks for the support. It really does mean a lot to me.
Well-- today I ate super healthy (stayed within my points for weight watchers) AND i did about 45 mins at the gym (if i would have done more, i would stay in bed all day tomorrow!). So hopefully all of that will give me more energy tomorrow.
foto junkie-- you totally rock! i don't see how you do it. But props to you. Yeah i walk at least a mile a day to & from my car for campus. And yeah--- i don't expect myself to EVER be super thin. My mother is tall and big boned.. a nice 155 for 5'9" frame... I just want to be healthy & big boned.. you know? Healthy is the key word... BMI normal.. yada yada. Thats why i think 160 is definitely managable from what I can see in my fun line of genetics.
I will be getting a lot of exercise in the fall- sorta. I am heading to Italy to study abroad until December. I'll be travelling every weekend, and basically walking all over Europe. My brother did the trip 2 years ago-- and he ended up losing weight.. even with home cooked meals everyday from Italian women in the city. We both have the same body frame, I'm about an inch taller than him, but he's definitely heavier. I'm not sure how much he lost-- but it was definitely noticable. I guess just as long as I don't gain a pasta belly while over there, I'll be happy.
So i guess that's also one of my hopes. And it just goes to show me that I just need to get off my lazy butt if i want to see some kind of improvement with my weight.
Kalei-- i feel ya on the weight gain thing! we can do it-- yeah =) I'm in the same boat you are. About the same weight too, maybe 2 inches shorter. Maybe we should talk!
I am glad to hear that you are being sensible about your goals.
Wow! It sounds like you will be leading an incredible exciting life!!! Italy!
I tell you what, you stay here, go to school for me, work my jobs, take care of my kids and I'll go to Italy for you! LOL
Hmmmm i like being a college student right now with no kids =) but.. i do see them in the next 5 or so years.... hopefully i'll be out of college then, but ****, who knows.
yeah.. the italy thing has set me back a little bit... but ****, i'll be in debt my entire life.. why not start now?
I'm also a University Student going into my 4th year (I guess that is Senior year) I'm also Canadian so please forgive my ignorance to the amercain schooling slang. I never bothered to learn it because we just say it as it is =p
I'd love to join a chat with our students my age, I've tried the 20-something forum, but most of them are not in school or already graduated so I find it hard to relate with them.
